$99 Xbox 360 and Kinect with two-year subscription tipped
What if you took the classic cellphone business model and applied it to consoles? Did your mind just explode? Microsoft is certainly hoping it will. The Verge reports that Microsoft will be offering a $99 Xbox 360 and Kinect as part of a two-year subscription starting from next week. The $99 upfront cost would net you the hardware, and you would continue to pay a $15 monthly subscription over the course of two years.

Multi touch table achieves 3D effect using Kinect
Interactive tables aren’t anything new, but what about one you could potentially build by yourself on the cheap? That’s what one internet dweller has done, using a 2D projector, kinect unit, and four infrared lasers. The table appears to have a 3D holographic display, but it’s a clever piece of trickery: the Kinect tracks the user’s head in relation to the table, and the projector adjusts the image as necessary to give the illusion of a 3D space.

Future Kinect could detect tone of voice: scanning sees new development
In a new interview with MCV, head of Kinect development Kudo Tsunoda has said that a future version of the motion-tracking unit may be able to detect the tone of your voice, as well as body language. Tsunoda says the Kinect team is “really interested right now is creating experiences that help you develop real world skills.”

Kinect HD set-top box tipped for Xbox LIVE TV plans
Microsoft’s Xbox TV plans continue to trickle out, with talk of a Kinect-based set-top box for 2012 that would offer streaming multimedia content with a voice and motion controlled UI and sub-$200 price tag. Variously codenamed “Live Xbox”, “Kinect Box” and “Kinect HD”, the new STB will resemble a low-profile version of the existing Kinect, The Daily‘s sources suggest, with a larger base to accommodate power, HDMI and USB ports. Availability has been “pushed back” it’s said, from an original early-2012 window, though it should arrive prior to the next-gen “Xbox 720.”
XBOX 360 at 66 Million Worldwide, Kinect Nearly Doubling at 18 Million
The post-holiday sale numbers are looking good for Microsoft's XBOX 360 and Kinect. By the end of Q1 Microsoft reported 57.6 million units were shipped. That number has increased by almost 10 million, with some thanks going to the recent holiday season. In a 2011 roundup video released by Microsoft, the XBOX 360 has sold 66 million units.
