SanDisk have unveiled their latest PMP, intended to work with the company’s attempt to control media distribution, slotMusic. Offering 1GB microSD cards with pre-loaded DRM-free music, each costing $14.99, together with compatibility with your own cards up to 16GB in capacity, the new sanDisk Sansa SlotMusic PMP has no display and only basic controls, but costs a mere $19.99.
Eye-fi is already a well known product. Their SD card already has an added geotracking function that makes it so you can automatically associate any pictures taken and then put on the card with the location they were taken in.
SanDisk will soon be announcing their largest mobile phone storage capacity to date with their 16GB microSDHC and Memory Stick Micro (M2). And with a release date in October for the U.S., Europe and Asia, they’re just in time to bring the recently announced T-Mobile G1 up to a level playing field with the iPhone 3G in terms of storage capacity.
These new higher capacity memory cards are intended to fall in line with the numerous features available on today’s handsets. Where there are more features, there’s more need for storage, so SanDisk is keeping with the times. But these cards are not just meant for mobile phones. In fact, they can be used in GPS and video cameras as well.
Removable storage isn’t the only thing on the SD Card Association’s mind these days. They have just announced the Embedded SD standard, which will be their attempt at moving into the embedded storage market.
Nervian has announced a new CardReader specifically made for PowerMac G5/ Mac Pro desktops. The new card readers fit under the front handle of your tower and have a style to match your tower.
For reasons unknown, Nintendo decided to leave out the option to playback DVDs on their ever-popular Wii console. And even though the console is always in demand, it seems like a serious oversight to leave out one of the most basic functions in modern consoles. I mean, the XBox 360 and PS3 have it. Why not the Wii?
Storage manufacturer Kingston has announced a new microSDHC card, which packs 8GB and supports up to 4MB/sec transfers. Intended for use with media files on cellphones and other mobile devices, it can also be used in full-sized SDHC slots courtesy of the card adaptor.
If Flip’s latest $180 Mino camcorder is too rich for your blood (or just a little predictable) then RCA might have a few more options to tickle your fancy. The three new devices all use solid-state memory and adopt the upright, somewhat blocky design common in budget camcorders; entry level is the $89.99 MyLife EX200, mid-range is the Pocket EX205 at $99.99, while top-spec (relatively speaking) comes the Traveller EX210, at $149.99, which has a splashproof housing.
Verizon and LG are wowing us today with a few new entrants onto Verizon’s network. The new devices are all pretty nice, but the showstopper is no doubt the Dare. The Dare is an all touch device, that will have a 3.2 mega pixel camera with auto focus, and will sport on board image editing. The Dare is a PRADA variant, it is similar to the AT&T offering, of the LG Vu. It is expected to launch next month.
For some reason, this Micro Orb spy camera makes me think of Columbo-star Peter Falk. Perhaps if the TV detective had been fitted with a 1.5-inch sphere capturing 30fps MPEG-4 video (with sound), gathering evidence might’ve been even easier. On sale in mid-May, the video camera has a three hour rechargeable battery and can record up to six hours of footage onto a 2GB microSD card.
