The ongoing Nitdroid project to put Android on the MeeGo-powered N9 has come up with a new 4.0.3 alpha release, allowing owners to boot between the official OS and an unofficial injection of Ice Cream Sandwich. The list of working functionality is surprisingly long, too, given its alpha status: multitouch, 3D drivers and OpenGL, and GSM/3G connectivity are all playing ball.

Nokia N9 gets Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.3 dual-boot
Nokia N9 Ice Cream Sandwich port gets video demo
After last week's proof-of-concept shots of Android 4.0 running on Nokia's N9, port-meister Alexey Roslyakov has returned with a video demo of Ice Cream Sandwich on the ordinarily MeeGo smartphone. Roklyakov's hack turns the N9 into a dual-booting device; hitting the volume key during boot stops MeeGo from running and instead brings up Android 4.0.3.

Nokia silent on N9 sales as MeeGo kept out of spotlight
Nokia has confirmed that its smartphone sales included in this morning's financial results reveal were buoyed by the MeeGo-powered Nokia N9, though the company has declined to specify exactly how many of the niche-appeal handsets were sold. "Our ASP in the fourth quarter 2011 benefited from the sales of the higher priced Nokia N9 and Nokia Lumia devices" the Q4 2011 report indicated, though a Nokia spokesperson said the company would not be breaking down its smartphone figures to detail individual devices.

Samsung merging bada with Tizen for smartphone push
Samsung has announced plans to merge its homegrown bada smartphone platform with open-source Tizen, a collaborative OS integrating Nokia-reject MeeGo, with the first Samsung Tizen devices tipped for release this year. "We have an effort that will merge bada and Tizen" Tae-Jin Kang, Senior Vice President of Samsung's Contents Planning Team told Forbes at CES 2012 last week. Tizen will show up on "at least one to two" Samsung phones in 2012, Kang confirmed; earlier this month, details leaked on the Samsung I9500, believed to run the new platform.

Nokia N9 MeeGo update previewed: Video calls, iOS-style folders
Nokia's next MeeGo update for the N9 will enable video calling using the front-facing camera, according to details of the incoming PR1.2 firmware, along with app folders on the homescreen and other tweaks. The changes, previewed in screenshots from the maemo forums, also include copy and paste support in the N9's browser, using a similar drag'n'tap system to what's seen in Android and iOS.

White Nokia N9 shipping now
Nokia has begun shipping the white N9, its fourth color variant of the niche-appeal MeeGo smartphone. Revealed back at Nokia World 2011, the white handset is functionally identical to the three existing color options of N9, but has proved surprisingly coveted by MeeGo fans. Spotify hits Nokia N9
Spotify has released a mobile app for MeeGo, allowing those lucky few with a Nokia N9 to access the streaming music service. The app - which also works on the N950 developer device - supports streaming over WiFi, EDGE and 3G, as well as support for offline playlists where tracks are cached in the N9's own storage for playback when you're without a data connection.

Nokia video reveals the making of the N9
With the Nokia World conference just two days away, the Finnish handset maker has released a video revealing what goes into making its gorgeous unibody Nokia N9 smartphone. White Nokia N9 due Q1 2012?
Nokia could be readying two new N9 color variants, it's suggested, with white and green versions of the MeeGo smartphone spotted. According to the picture shared with SlashGear from Ricciolo1, the white N9 will be part of a limited market release in Q1 next year, though there's no telling exactly which markets those will be.
