Bless the FCC for giving us sneak previews of upcoming devices; today's unusual product is why we love it so.  Apparently the work of Qisda, this multimedia router has an egg-like casing and a small color touchscreen, along with stereo speakers - in a sort of Sony Rolly arrangement, though with less dancing - and WiFi 802.11n.  Around the back you only get one 10/100 ethernet port alongside the WAN connection, but there's a USB port that lets you plug in a 3G modem and get online via a cellular network instead. Boxee Beta announced: faster performance & tweaked GUI

Boxee have announced the new beta of their media center software.  Among the changes include a new homepage, with clearer menu options together with a recommendations pane showing suggestions from Twitter and Facebook, improved handling of files with live searching, and filtering by genre and cost.  The new Boxee beta also combines local and streaming files and organises TV series by episode, while third-party developers can now use OAuth authentication to log into web services. BBC relaunch iPlayer as Wii Channel

The BBC has announced that it will be "relaunching" the iPlayer streaming TV system on the Nintendo Wii, with the system now present as a dedicated Wii channel.  While iPlayer access on the Wii has been possible since April 2008, the new iPlayer channel will apparently offer a "faster, high quality and improved viewing experience" according to Erik Huggers, direct of Future Media and Technology at the BBC. Roku HD-XR and Roku SD join Netflix-streaming lineup

Roku have outed a pair of new Netflix media streamers that go on sale alongside their existing Roku HD.  The Roku HD-XR keeps the same 720p HD playback, optical audio output and HDMI connection as the original model, but upgrades the WiFi to b/g/n.  Meanwhile there's a new entry-level, standard definition model, the Roku SD, which offers basic WiFi and analog connectivity.
