We’ve already seen a gameplay trailer for Iron Man 3 last month, and this new one doesn’t seem to be all that different. However, we’re teased with a short glimpse of what to expect with in-app purchases, as well as very brief looks into some new gameplay that we didn’t see with last month’s trailer.

As for the different suits, you can get them in different colors, and some of the more high-end ones even come with machine guns attached, which is pretty nifty. You can also spend money to upgrade your armor and weapon power, as well as your “HP,” which calculates how much damage you put on your enemies with your various weapons and moves.

The trailer tells us that we’ll have access to 18 different Iron Man suits, so it seems like there will be some lasting appeal to this game — enough to possibly hold us until Iron Man 4 comes out (there’s gotta be another one, right?). The game will play a lot like Temple Run, except you’ll be flying with guns blazing. The game is set for both iOS and Android on April 25, so mark your calendars.

Marvel promised that it would eventually be bringing the promotion back, and it looks like they kept up with said promise. However, this time around they’re taking things a little more cautiously. Users who want to take advantage of the offer must sign up for it before midnight tomorrow, and the company will be sending out download links in controlled roll outs.

So it looks like Marvel didn’t necessarily boost their server prowess, but instead they ended up just controlling how many people can access their servers so that they don’t crash miserably. After you sign up for the offer, you’ll get an email confirming your registration, and from there you’ll sign in and can begin downloading your free comic books to your digital device of choice. Marvel plans to officially start the roll out this Thursday, April 11.

The 700 comic books that Marvel will make available for download at no cost include only first issues, meaning that if you want to read further into a particular comic book series, you’ll have to buy the remaining the comic books in order to do so. However, this promotion could be a great way for you to discover new comic book series and figure out the ones you like best before dropping down money on further issues.

On ComiXology’s blog, CEO David Steinberger said that his team “expected a high degree of excitement for the Marvel initiative,” and while he thought that they were prepared for the promotion, they became “overwhelmed by the immense response.” In fact, they’re still trying to get their servers back up and running.

In the end, Steinberger notes that the server crashes were a hindrance to avid comic lovers getting the comic books they wanted right away, and until they can fix their servers and bolster them up for more traffic, ComiXology will be suspending the promotion. However, Steinberger says that those who haven’t yet taken advantage of the offer will still get their chance.

The company created a sign-up page where you can enter in your email address to get an email update when the promotion goes back online. ComiXology is a digital distribution partner with Marvel, and the company also powers both the Marvel comics app and its own standalone app, so the promotion is currently dead on both platforms until further notice.

Marvel announced the offer at SXSW this weekend, and comic lovers can use either Marvel’s official mobile app or the ComiXology mobile app to download the free issues. Be aware, though, that both services are experiencing quite a bit of traffic, and I even had trouble signing up for a Marvel account (which you need to access the comics).

Both the Marvel and ComiXology apps are account-based service, which means that any comics you purchase and download will be accessable on any device that supports the Marvel or ComiXology apps. You can even use the browser-based Marvel Digital Comics Shop to purchase and download comics and have them ready on your mobile device instantly.

There are a ton of great selections to choose from, including various comic books of The Avengers, Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, X-Men, and even 22 first issues from the new Marvel Now line. You only have until tomorrow at 11 pm ET to attempt to download 700 comic books, so choose wisely what you start with, especially since Marvel’s servers are getting bogged down right now.

The difference between this app and the already released Marvel Comics app for iPad is your ability to see new issues. With Marvel Unlimited you’ll be limited to comics as recent as 6 months – for some of the most ravenous storyline addicts, this will be a bit of a boon. If you want to read entire collections of comics long gone, on the other hand, Marvel Unlimited will certainly be right up your alley.

The app itself is free from the iTunes App Store and you’ll be able to pick it up for either your iPad or your iPhone – or both, if you’re feeling like reading all the time, no matter what, non-stop. You’ll see both the Marvel Comics app and the Marvel Unlimited app in the store – feel free to pick them both up for more comics action than you can possible handle.

You’ll find that some comics have special ways of walking through their pages while some are much more traditional. If you have a peek at a new (and free) edition of Guardians of the Galaxy, you’ll find each tiny panel popping up with speech bubbles depending on who speaks first and which action happens when. If you check out Uncanny X-Men Volume 1, Issue 500, you’ll be able to zoom in on individual panels with a double-tap, the others being blocked by white while you peek.

The most traditional way you’ll see comics added to the fold here is a simple one or two page spread. You can zoom in with a pinch or a pull, but otherwise you’re flat as flat gets. Page turning is flat, there’s no extra 3D morphing going on, nothing like that. It’s a real one or two-page experience, front to back.

With Marvel Unlimited you’ll be paying either $10 a month of $60 USD for a whole year, and you’ll be able to read comics offline and keep what you want just so long as you’re still subscribed. With the Marvel Comics app you’ll be paying whatever you’d normally pay for each issue, and you’ll have access to “Marvel Now” – each time you purchase an issue in the real world, in a real comic shop, you get a download code that lets you grab it digitally as well.

But please, please for the sake of our future generations of comic book fanatics, please put your back issues in sleeves with boards and tape – and don’t smoke! And don’t leave them out in the sun! And don’t let them get damp!

That sense of competition has been fuelled by recent research suggesting that, while LOVEFiLM has the edge in movie content for its European viewers, Netflix is besting it in TV content. The discovery came amid a round of new TV licensing deals for LOVEFiLM, including an agreement with Channel 4 earlier this month that will see titles like Peep Show, Father Ted, and The Inbetweeners added.

Meanwhile, a previous deal with NBCInternational and other content agreements with ABC and BBC Worldwide means the catalog is gradually expanding. Alongside it, there’s an increasing number of devices that support LOVEFiLM access, including the console trinity of Wii U, PS3, and Xbox 360, Amazon’s own Kindle Fire and Fire HD tablets, the iPad, and other devices.

LOVEFiLM says shows from the past 50 years featuring Marvel characters will now be made available, with titles including Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Fantastic Four, X-Men, and Silver Surfer. Subscriptions are priced from £4.99 per month.

The deal will see Disney movies hit Netflix about six months after they come out of theaters, which is about the same timeframe that movies are allowed to broadcast on television. However, “high-profile Disney direct-to-video new releases” will be available for streaming starting next year, and older Disney films like Dumbo, Alice in Wonderland, and Pocahontas, are actually available right now.

Previously, Netflix had been able to stream Disney movies through its deal with cable network Starz, but that deal ended back in February. Since this new deal involves Marvel and Pixar, we should be seeing popular films like Iron Man, Toy Story, and Monsters Inc. However, we’re not sure if the recently-acquired Lucasfilm will be involved in the deal. If so, the upcoming Star Wars film will also show up on Netflix.

While this may seem like big news now, 2016 is extremely far off, which means the industry may change and Netflix’s competition could butt in to create a hellstorm for Netflix, Amazon being one of the biggest threats. However, Starz currently holds the Disney contract through 2015, which is why Netflix won’t get it until 2016, so that deal is definitely secure from other services.

This game was introduced for the market the week of Thanksgiving, 2012 – that’s right now, here, at the time of this posting, and here we’ve also got a special promotional price that’s making the download extra enticing. Right now you’ll be able to pick this game up for $4.99 USD – in the future it’s likely to be raised by a buck or two, but for the moment a five-spot will make it yours. It’s developed directly by Marvel Games is ready to not just promote the Avengers movie series, but to be a high-powered game of excellence in and of itself.

Again what you’re looking at in the demo here is the ASUS Transformer Prime, a device that’s more than a few months old but is still one of the most awesome tablets on the market, Tegra 3 and all. This game begins with the Hulk and will be continuing on with updates, special events, and more playable characters and storyline in the future. In other words – this game is set to be a gift that keeps on giving. All “episodic content” updates will be free, mind you – with Thor, Captain America, and Iron Man in the mix for 2013!

Enhancements for NVIDIA Tegra 3-toting devices include improved character textures, slightly more life-like environments, Iso-8 effects (game element with super fun crystal bashing), and realistic clothing – rendering sweetness in-frame! The only thing you might want to be wary of here is the download size – at 1.3 GB, it’s certainly going to be a space-eater you’ll want to think twice about. Otherwise it’s a straight up must-have winner – grab it through the NVIDIA TegraZone right this minute!

The first episode in the series has players playing as the Incredible Hulk. Future episodes in the series will put players in control of other Avengers superheroes. Each additional episode will be free after gamers pay the $6.99 to the purchase the app. The goal of this mobile game for Marvel was to bring console quality graphics and game play to mobile gamers.

The game was developed by Wideload Games and is a gesture-based action game with HD quality graphics according to the developer. The combat was designed for mobile devices and gives players attack and combo controls controlled by swiping fingers. Game play features distinct fighting styles and has special legendary moves available.

The first episode allows players to customize the Hulk with exclusive costumes. Players can unlock new super abilities to upgrade combat stats as well. In the first episode, the Hulk battles bad guys released after some sort of mysterious event called the Pulse. The game is only offered for iOS devices right now, but it will be coming for Android users with enhancements for Tegra 3 devices.

Developer Secret Identity is behind the ambitious project. The official description reads, “Drawing upon the 8,000-plus heroes and villains in the Marvel Universe, Marvel Heroes allows players to become their favorite Marvel Super Heroes – from the popular Iron Man, Thor, Storm and Black Widow to the lesser known Squirrel Girl and Cable. Fans will be able to completely customize their characters by constructing costumes taken from each hero’s rich history, choosing from a huge array of super powers for each character, and finding thousands of other items. There are countless ways for players to tailor their experience.”

Of course, some details remain undisclosed, including the amount of players each party can have, and whether or not communal social areas will allow players to keep their superhero personas or if they will have to have a separate avatar. However, it will not be a direct video game adaptation of the movie that’s sweeping America right now. Instead, it will be “inspired by iconic Marvel comic artwork and the Secret Invasion storyline.” This is just the beginning of what will be an entire video game franchise based on The Avengers.

The Avengers is so big, it doesn’t have an official video game tie-in. However, longtime Marvel partner Sega will no longer be the publisher in charge of marketing and distributing the video game versions of its multi million-dollar grossing flicks. Instead, Disney Interactive will pick up the task. Sega is believed to not have lived up to Marvel’s expectations.

The Avengers are bigger than just one game, and we’re planning to allow consumers to enjoy The Avengers regardless of their preference in gameplay style or platform,” Jefferson said.

The first part of his plan includes Marvel Infinite Comics, which is a new comic book format along with Marvel AR. Marvel AR is the first augmented reality app from a comics company. The app and Marvel Infinite comics will launch together on April 4 when the first issue of Avengers vs. X-Men is published. The Infinite brand will use tablets and smartphones as the canvas for telling the comic stories. Marvel promises to take advantage of new technology while maintaining what fans expect from the medium.

The Marvel AR app is powered by Aurasma and will be offered for Android and iOS devices. The app will work in conjunction with special comics that have the Marvel AR logo on them. When users scan Marvel AR product codes, they will get exclusive content, including new footage, the ability to hear from creators, and catch up on past events. Since Marvel is calling the app augmented reality, it would seem the content will play over the top of the product rather than working like a QR code and simply linking the user to online content.
