Mac OS X Lion Developer Preview Released

, Feb 24th 2011 Discuss [2]

While the new MacBook Pro line-up delivers the Sandy bridge update consumers have been clamoring for, Apple has something for developers too. The new developer preview of Mac OS X Lion has been released, adding full-screen app support, pinch and double-tap zoom in Safari – some of the multitouch gestures borrowed from OS X – a document saving system called Versions (which automatically saves successive versions of documents as you work on them) and AirDrop, a wireless file transfer system for drag & drop moving of documents between Macs.

Apple Major Product Launch Possible for Next Week

, Feb 18th 2011 Discuss [2]

It appears that a source "familiar with the matter" has come forth to AppleInsider to spill the dish on some big fat Apple news about what might be a product launch next week. This release might have to do with inventory levels of the MacBook Pro or because Apple fans are ravenous as ever, either way it appears that rumors for two weeks from now are bunk, and next week is the source of heavenly Apple light. This meeting or press conference might well be the place where the next generation of MacBook Pros originate, and that'd be alright with yours truly as this 2007 MacBook is just about to hit the bin. MacBook Air 11-inch GelaSkin Review and Hands-On (with Bonus iPod Touch Review!)

, Jan 17th 2011 Discuss [0]

So we were contacted by no less than GelaSkins themselves to see if we’d like to take a look at their brand new MacBook Air protective skins. What did we say? Of COURSE we’d like to take a peek. So they did indeed let us take a peek, and since I just happen to have had a brand new MacBook Air 11″ right here to go with my ancient iPod Touch 2nd gen, I decided to grab a skin for both. For the iPod Touch 2nd gen I decided to go with a massively complex London illustration by my favorite group of pixel illustrators in the world: eboy! Then for the MacBook Air 11-inch, I decided to take the DIY route and have them print my own design.

, Dec 23rd 2010 Discuss [0]

While Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, managed to wrangle in the title from TIME Magazine, the Financial Times has a different outlook on the previous year, and who managed to have the biggest impact. The periodical has announced that they've given the Person of the Year achievement to none other than Steve Jobs. And while there's many factors as to why the Financial Times has decided to go this route, they're putting quite a bit of the achievement on the shoulders of Apple's tablet device, the iPad. Apple Plans to Hide the Antenna Behind Their Logo

, Dec 23rd 2010 Discuss [4]

Apple engineers are always hard at work trying to better their hardware, trying to find every route possible to make it more interesting, usable, and effective. While "Antennagate" may have thrown a wrench in a lot of people's planning and hard work, and caused an antenna-related campaign of which no one had seen before, it also meant that those same engineers were already hard at work on a fix right after the launch of the latest generation iPhone. And, if a recent patent application is any indicator to the fact, they may have found a potential fix for the whole situation: hiding it behind the logo. Read The Full Story

Apple buy Wi-Gear for Bluetooth expertise; apt-X quality audio support as standard?

, Nov 9th 2010 Discuss [3]

It's been a long time since we reviewed Wi-Gear's iMuffs for iPod, but it seems Apple has been paying closer attention to the wireless headphones company. According to 9to5Mac's sources, Apple acquired Wi-Gear two months ago - the company now says it is closed for business - and intends to use its technology and expertise to produce stereo Bluetooth headphones for its iOS and MacBook lines. We've also reason to believe that Apple could introduce apt-X support across those ranges, for higher quality Bluetooth audio. Read The Full Story

I Don’t Use It, Why Should You?

, Oct 19th 2010 Discuss [6]

I use my DVD drive all the time. Some readers may laugh, but I actually pay for movies and music content. Sometimes, I’ll find a deal on a movie or a CD that is better than what I could find online. I take it home, I rip it to my laptop, and it’s mine, convenient and digital. I used my DVD drive when I installed Windows 7 on my MacBook, and when I had to reinstall iWork, after iMovie started crashing again. In my old Camry, my tape deck stopped working, and that’s my favorite way to connect my iPod to my car stereo. Radio transmitters don’t work reliably in my area, but instead of shelling out a few hundred bucks to buy a proper car stereo for a car that won’t last me through next year, I did what we used to do back in the old days. I burned a CD.
