Apple is reportedly planning to refresh its MacBook Air ultraportable with Sandy Bridge processors in June, delayed slightly due to the chipset issues Intel has experienced. CNET's sources haven't disclosed which exact processors in Intel's Core 2011 range will used, though the update is expected to follow a MacBook Pro Sandy Bridge refresh in March or April. Apple has quietly changed its hardware to prevent hackers tampering with it, and it's a tweak at the most basic of levels: the screws that hold Apple gadgets together. According to iFixit, Apple has progressively shifted to a new type of tamper-resistant screw that isn't a regular Torx - the company describes them as "pentalobe security screws" - and normal electronics screwdriver sets can't handle them. So they did indeed let us take a peek, and since I just happen to have had a brand new MacBook Air 11″ right here to go with my ancient iPod Touch 2nd gen, I decided to grab a skin for both. For the iPod Touch 2nd gen I decided to go with a massively complex London illustration by my favorite group of pixel illustrators in the world: eboy! Then for the MacBook Air 11-inch, I decided to take the DIY route and have them print my own design.

Acer, ASUS and Lenovo are apparently planning to take a leaf out of Apple's book with the construction of their new Intel Sandy Bridge based ultraportable laptops, with ultra-slim form factors and, in particular, slender screen lids being cribbed from the MacBook Air. Scheduled for release at the end of Q1 2011, the 13.3- to 14-inch notebooks will apparently borrow Apple's display panel construction method which has resulted in screens 3-5mm thinner than previously common. MacBook Air USB Ethernet adapter glitch prompts network headaches

Looks like Apple has another MacBook Air glitch to address, with multiple users complaining of the ultraportable's performance with the official USB Ethernet Adapter. According to a lengthy thread on the Apple support forum, use of the $29 adapter is proving haphazard at best: some users claim it will only work when connected via the notebook's right USB port, while others say it won't work at all.
