Toshiba Power Outage Stops Flash Memory Supply

Toshiba sent out a news bit today saying that their Yokkaichi plant is in the midst of a power outage and that this failure (at 5:21AM yesterday) could affect flash memory supply. This failure wont be fixed until sometime Friday, the supply hit planned for shipments toward January and February of 2011. No estimates were given on how this will affect Toshiba's partners or if their products will be able to ship on time. Apple, who is currently using Toshiba for their MacBook Air's SSD, is said to be fine since it also depends on Samsung and Hynix. Read The Full Story

Apple Sandy Bridge testing tips huge CPU/GPU refresh

Apple's future processor and GPU plans are the subject of numerous leaks today, with sources revealing that the company has been testing Intel Sandy Bridge Core iX chips for several months now, ahead of including them in future MacBook Pro and Mac Pro models, among others. Meanwhile, the company is also tipped to be considering solely using Sandy Bridge integrated graphics in its entry-level notebooks and ultraportables, while higher-end machines would switch from NVIDIA chips to AMD's Radeon range. MacBook Air screen glitch fix released

A new Apple update for the MacBook Air has been released, that supposedly addresses the intermittent display glitches some owners of the new ultraportable have reported. The "MacBook Air EFI Firmware Update 2.0" is recommended to all 11- and 13-inch MBA owners, and "resolves a rare issue where MacBook Air boots or wakes to a black screen or becomes unresponsive." Apple block PhotoFast MacBook Air SSD kit production?

Apple has reportedly demanded PhotoFast stop production of their 256GB MacBook Air SSD upgrade kits, which were billed as the only way to double the maximum storage in the 11.6-inch version of the ultraportable. A source close to the company has told 9 to 5 Mac that the request is supposedly being abided by, since PhotoFast is wary of losing its membership in Apple's MFi program for officially licensed accessories and peripherals. Why Apple’s all-SSD, Light Peak MacBook Pro makes sense

Apple’s intentions for their flagship laptop range, the MacBook Pro, made headlines this week with a new set of rumors suggesting 2011′s model would mark the transition to not only solid-state storage but Intel’s Light Peak connectivity for high-speed data transfers. Whether this particular speculation turns out to be accurate or not, SSD – and abandoning optical drives – certainly seems the most likely route for Apple to take.

Apple Seeks Reviewers for Mac App Store

As you might already know, Apple aims to split off their App Store from their as-of-now still larger iTunes store, which they will still use to sell both video and audio files. Now, this sort of thing doesn't just happen overnight, and certainly it doesn't occur without testing on everyday folks like you or I. Therefor, they need testers. You can't be just ANYONE, you've got to be able to work in a fast-paced environment and have strong customer service skills. Apple working on MacBook Air display glitch fix

Apple is apparently acknowledging the display issues some MacBook Air users are experiencing with their new ultraportables, though so far only internally. BGR were sent two screenshots from Apple's internal systems, detailing faults whereby the MacBook Air's display fades from dark to light when waking from sleep, and where horizontal flickering is observed.
