Japan’s Apple Store “New Years Lucky Bags” include one Mac Pro

It would appear that the Japanese Apple Store team has upped the ante this year for their New Year Lucky Bag event, bringing on one 2013 Mac Pro for some lucky buyer. Since there’s only a single Mac Pro out there to be had, only a single customer will receive it - otherwise they’ll be getting a set of devices from the Apple Stores in Japan that are otherwise overstocked or for whatever reason an OK thing to give away. There’s also a set of devices that will be added to a limited number of bags.

The 2013 Mac Pro is here – and it’s beautiful

Has there been a desktop computing reinvention quite like the 2013 Mac Pro? At the top of the year Apple's pro-Mac looked like it was facing the axe altogether, an overlooked relic compared to the slick and increasingly powerful iMac. As 2013 draws to a close, however, the new Mac Pro is arguably the most exciting new model to join Apple's range; the epitome of "Think different" as what exactly makes a workstation is called into question. Demand for the new Mac has already seen ship times for new orders stretch out into February 2014 at the earliest, but we've got our hands on the Mac Pro already to see how it holds up.

Mac Pro 2013 launches: Shipping slips to February 2014

Apple's new Mac Pro has gone on sale today, with demand already pushing availability of the innovative desktop to February 2014. The cylindrical Mac launched with premium pricing this morning - starting at $2,999 for the entry-spec model, though that still includes a 3.5GHz quad-core Xeon E5 processor, 12GB of memory, 256GB of PCIe flash storage, and dual AMD FirePro D500 graphics - but Apple's online store is already warning that new orders shouldn't be expected to ship until midway through Q1 next year.

Apple had a somewhat strong year in 2013. The company showed off the iPad Air, unveiled a new iPad mini with a Retina display, and its upcoming Mac Pro might just be the most impressive desktop the company has ever launched. And as its revenue showed during the period, customers seemed to like what the company had to offer.

But I have a bit of a different take on the last year. While Apple had a broad launch lineup in 2013, nothing beyond the Mac Pro was truly “groundbreaking.” And by the look of things, that was intentional. That’s right – 2013 is designed to be the precursor for what promises to be a major 2014.

Mac Pro debut details leaked in Germany

The German retailer Conrad Electronics has started taking pre-orders and posted an availability date for the Mac Pro, and it's Dec. 16. But hold your horses. We don't know if that's an inside scoop or if the retailer is just rolling the dice and hoping for the best. Apple hasn't announced a specific release date for the machine -- only that it is coming sometime in December.

Is 2014 Shaping Up to Be Apple’s Year?

Is 2014 Shaping Up to Be Apple’s Year?

We hear it annually: this is going to be Apple’s year. The company’s fans from around the globe predict that Apple will come up with something new or groundbreaking and dramatically change how we interact with technology.

Over the last few years, however, those folks have been wrong. Apple has not unveiled anything in the last few years that could be considered groundbreaking in any way. In fact, save for the Mac Pro, its latest product launches have been awfully boring.
