Dell Adamo vs MacBook Air

By Chris Davies on Tuesday, Mar 17th 2009 No Comments

Buyers will have to wait until March 26th to see their Dell Adamo, but CNET have managed to score Dell’s latest ultraportable early and, knowing what most of us are interested in seeing, have set up a shoot between it and the Apple MacBook Air.  Both are competitors for the “thinnest laptop in the world” title; on paper the Adamo clinches it, at 0.65-inches, but in the metal the non-tapered chassis looks chunkier than the curved Air.

Dell have officially launched their Dell Adamo luxury ultraportable, happily bringing to an end the months of teaser campaigns and posturing videos.  Dell plan a whole range of Adamo products, which makes the specs of this first notebook a little easier to swallow: the MacBook Air rival has an Intel Core 2 Duo 1.2GHz U9300 processor with 2GB of DDR3 memory, a 128GB SSD and integrated Intel X4500 graphics, in a cleverly designed casing that, altogether, weighs four pounds.

Thermaltake have been showing off their special edition Level 10 PC case, created in association with BMW Designworks, at CeBIT this week.  Unlike most cases, which try to fit everything inside one big dull box, Level 10 looks as though the shell has been vacuum-packed around each of the components.

From a small toy to something less likely to fit into your pocket – and guaranteed to make more of a dent in your pocket-book.  The Nottage Design G-1 is a glass-topped pool table which promises a “floating on air” feel to the balls thanks to a patented resin coating to the glass, meaning there’s resistance as you’d get with traditional felt.

This is no ordinary dangling CD player, oh no; it’s a CD player suspended by four conical springs, with a double-chassis the top-plate of which is shaped to resemble a Ferrari F1 steering wheel.  According to creators Goldenote, the Stibbert Tube CD Player teases the very best quality out of your discs by virtue of its twin 6922 tube analog output stage, motor speed fluctuations of less than 0.0001-percent and, just to punish your back, an overall mass of three times its predecessor.
