Microsoft Lumia 950 tipped to launch on AT&T November 20

Ever since Microsoft's official unveiling of their new Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL flagship phones roughly a month ago, we've been eagerly waiting for an exact launch date. Well, it looks like Microsoft may be finally ready to let them out into the wild in the near future. Sources have told both Windows Central and The Verge that the Lumia 950 will be launching on AT&T on Friday, November 20th. The Lumia 950 XL, on the other hand, is said to be sold unlocked through Microsoft's own retail stores.

Windows 10 Mobile upgrade schedule leaked by Orange Poland

Windows 10 Mobile upgrade schedule leaked by Orange Poland

The Microsoft Surface Book has practically stolen the spotlight from the new Lumia smartphones, which were also announced at the same media event. We will, however, be reminded of them again soon, as new Windows 10 smartphones hit the market in a few weeks. But these are just two (or three, if you count the Acer Jade Primo) among dozens of existing Windows Phone devices. When will those be getting the promise of Windows 10? Fortunately for eager fans, Orange Poland has the information, which was, naturally, leaked to the public.

Windows 10 Mobile coming in December

Windows 10 Mobile coming in December

Microsoft has just unloaded a couple of interesting new devices, including adequate yet disappointingly plastic new Lumia smartphones. One thing it didn't announce, however, was when the mobile version of its Windows 10 operating system will arrive. After all, a new flagship smartphone deserves a new flagship OS right? Sadly, that might not be the case. In on its Facebook account, Microsoft reveals that Windows 10 Mobile won't be rolling out until December, a good month after the Lumia 950 and 950 XL go to market.

Microsoft Lumia 950 XL and 950 hands-on

Microsoft Lumia 950 XL and 950 hands-on

Lumia fans have been a patient bunch, not entirely by choice, waiting on a new set of flagship phones. Despite Microsoft's various and vocal commitments to Windows 10 on smartphones, it hasn't given much outward sign of what hardware might have been in the pipeline. Today that all changed, of course, with the Lumia 950 XL and Lumia 950, which filled the gap in Microsoft's top end (as well as bringing along a low-cost model too, the Lumia 550).

The larger of these two devices works with a 5.7-inch display, while the smaller has a 5.2-inch display, and both use OLED technology. Both devices also have Microsoft's own "glance screen" technology ready to roll. Both devices also use the newest version of Microsoft's phone-based Windows 10 operating system.

Microsoft Lumia 950, Lumia 950 XL briefly appear on online store

Did Microsoft just try to steal some of the attention away from Google's Nexus announcements? Possibly. With Microsoft's own new hardware event scheduled for next week, the company's new flagship smartphones, the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL, were accidentally listed on its UK online store earlier today. While the pricing details were left obscured, the listings did confirm a number of previously leaked specs, including screen sizes, storage, and camera features.

Lumia 950, 950 XL, 550 slides spill most of the beans

While the Android faithful are preparing for Google's big event and Nexus smartphones debut on Tuesday, those on Microsoft's side of the fence are also preparing for something similarly big further ahead. Next month, Redmond is expected to announce a few new devices, chief among which could be its fresh new batch of Lumia smarpthones. Leaked repeatedly and under inconsistent names, new slides reveal and confirm some of the specs for its upcoming smartphones, which might finally include a Lumia flagship that users will indeed want to have.

Entry-level Lumia 550 could have an iris scanner

Lumia smartphones are like Samsung smartphones. They are a dime a dozen, covering a wide range of hardware specs and prices. While the mobile worlds still awaits the promised high-end Windows 10 Mobile devices that will be the Surface of smartphones, another upcoming Lumia smartphone has unofficially broken cover. The Lumia 550 expected due next year might not be the fanciest handset around, nor would it be the most powerful, but it might have a secret function hidden in a corner that could potentially make this budget device worth noting.

ITC clears Microsoft in 8 year old patent case, Lumias safe

It would have been a devastating blow if Microsoft was blocked from importing its next batch of Lumia smartphones even before its Windows 10 Mobile OS got out the door. That crisis, however, has been just averted when the US International Trade Commission (ITC) ruled in favor of Redmond in a patent case that InterDigital brought against Nokia way back in 2007. According to the ITC, Microsoft did not infringe on InterDigital's patents, which saves it from a potential import ban that could affect its Lumia smartphones.

Microsoft’s October lineup: Surface Pro 4, 2 Lumias, Band 2

While Samsung went a month early to avoid the IFA and Apple rush of September, it seems that Microsoft will go the opposite route and hold its event a bit later. Two separate sources agree that October will be Microsoft's month as it will be revealing a new lineup of devices, including the Surface Pro 4, two new Lumia flagships, and the second Microsoft Band wearable. Given the Lumias, this might also be the time when Microsoft will finally launch, or even just unveil, Windows 10 Mobile.
