Headlines this week were a tussle between Apple’s iPhone OS 3.0 announcement and the launch of the Dell Adamo luxury ultraportable.  We were pleased to see SlashGear readers in their thousands join us for our Apple liveblog and, while there may have been no new hardware, the features hitting the iPhone over the Summer – MMS, A2DP Bluetooth, copy & paste, and Spotlight, to name but a few – could keep the smartphone well ahead of the competition.  That’s not what Palm wanted to hear; we ran through the key differences between the iPhone OS 3.0 and Palm Pre at our sibling-site My Pre.

Speaker-docks used to be a straightforward proposition: take iPod (for the majority pander to Apple’s audience), slot into cradle, enjoy louder music with no need for headphones.  The arrival of video content, particularly in the orientation-flipping iPod touch, iPhone and iPod nano 4G, demands new accommodation from speaker-dock manufacturers, and Logic3’s i-Station Rotate steps up with one of the more engineered approaches SlashGear have seen.

Sometimes a simple problem calls for a simple solution, and the Logic3 i-Station25 is a good example of that.  Recognizing that iPod touch and iPhone users want to not only enjoy audio but video when their PMP is docked, the i-Station25 is designed to tip 90-degrees left or right, courtesy of a wedge-shaped casing.  Flipping genius or flipping frustrating?  SlashGear set to finding out.

Speaker-docks for Apple’s iPod range are big business, but users are expecting more than just music out of their audio accessories, they want video too.  Logic3’s i-Station 25 and i-Station Rotate both offer audio playback, but also tackle video playback too, though in slightly different ways.  The 25 takes a simple approach, rocking onto its side for widescreen video from your iPod touch or iPhone; meanwhile the Rotate is more advanced, with a swivelling cradle section that rotates 90-degrees.
