HTCSense.com closes shop

This week the folks at HTC are letting their customers know that their own information retention service for mobile data, HTCSense.com, will be shutting down on the 30th of April. This service has been active with and for HTC customers for some time now and the actions which HTC customers must take to save their data are included below. HTC has given customers a bit over a month to download the data they've had on file with HTC at HTCSense.com, at which point the information will be deleted entirely.

Intel grabs Telmap for cross-platform AppUp location services

Intel has acquired navigation and location-based software specialist Telmap, and will use the company's technology for cross-platform local services in its AppUp system. Eventually, Intel is planning to offer developers coding for AppUp a set of standardized location-based services (LBS) APIs, with which they'll be able to integrate potentially complex mapping, local search and other content into their apps with the addition of "just a few lines of code."

Senate Bill Requires Consent For iPhone, Android Location Data

The Apple and Google location tracking controversy may soon be fully addressed in legislation. Ever since news of Apple's unencrypted storage of location data on iPhones broke, Senators Al Franken and Richard Blumenthal have been hot on their tails, summoning both Apple and Google for congressional hearings on the matter. Now the duo are submitting a bill that would require explicit consent for location data.

Apple iOS 4.3.3 with “Bug Fix” for Location Tracking Now Available

We have been closely following the iPhone 4 location tracking saga, and reported on Monday that Apple was getting ready to release iOS 4.3.3 to make it possible to clear your cache of location tracking, and to turn off the tracking completely. Now iOS 4.3.3 is available via iTunes for AT&T's iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPads, and the fourth-gen iPod touch. There is a separate update, iOS 4.2.8, for Verizon's iPhone.
