South Korean class action suit against Apple seeks nearly $26 million

Early this month I mentioned that Apple had been fined in South Korea for tracking users of the iPhone without their permission. The fine was a paltry $2,800 against a company that makes billions. In other words, it amounted to less than a slap on the wrist for Apple. Apple has now been sued by a group of users in South Korea over location tracking. Read The Full Story

OnStar has been on GM vehicles for a long time now and has some really cool features. The features we tend to see on TV are the door unlocking and the ability to track and stop the vehicle if it gets stolen. Apple iOS 4.3.3 with “Bug Fix” for Location Tracking Now Available

We have been closely following the iPhone 4 location tracking saga, and reported on Monday that Apple was getting ready to release iOS 4.3.3 to make it possible to clear your cache of location tracking, and to turn off the tracking completely. Class action suit filed against Apple for iPhone location tracking

I use an iPhone and I will be the first to say that the thought of my iPhone tracking my movements is irritating. There is really no need for my iPhone to be storing where I go throughout my day. I also have to wonder if this extra tracking that is unneeded was turned off if my iPhone would run longer on a charge. Gowalla Disney deal announced as the Magic Kingdom checks-in

Gowalla has inked a deal with Disney, which will see visitors to Disney parks able to check-in at over 100 locations across Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and Disneyland Resort in California, earning featured stamps as you go. The Gowalla Passport pages will show what's happening at the parks, together with maps, check-in streams and other special items, and each ride or attraction can be automatically tweeted or announced on Facebook. InvisiTrack launch super-accurate GPS alternative

We're already familiar with GPS and pseudo-GPS triangulation technologies, that use cellphone towers or known WiFi base stations to figure out roughly where you are, but InvisiTrack reckon they can use spectrum bands more commonly found carrying TV signals to pinpoint position down to under 3m indoors or 1m outdoors.  Their InvisiTrack LS system relies on the fact that the 512 and 698 MHz bands can better penetrate through walls and other structures than higher-frequency bands like the 2.4GHz used for WiFi.
