LG Voyager VZ Navigator, Mobile TV and Browser video walkthrough

Being on the road this weekend really gave me an opportunity to test out the new LG Voyager from Verizon Wireless. The handset takes a similar form factor to the Sidekick but is neither as long nor as tall – making it much more enjoyable to use as a phone. It dawned on me Saturday morning that I desperately needed a haircut! I had my laptop and a few other options (even a phone book) to find a shop nearby that was open on a Saturday morning.

Using VZ Navigator on the LG Voyager was much easier than flipping through a phone book or accessing other online services such as Google Maps. I had the option to call the business directly to find out price and availability, and if I found one open, I could simply have the Voyager map out and guide me there. LG Voyager: Touch, Flip, Type

Just in time for the holiday season is one of Verizon’s most highly anticipated phones – the Voyager by LG. LG is looking to knock the iPhone out its top spot with the Voyager’s dual screen displays (large external touch-screen and slightly smaller screen when flipped open), 2.0 megapixel camera, VZ Navigator, a microSD memory slot which can support up to 8GB of additional memory and full QWERTY keypad.

The Voyager is all about video and music. It offers V Cast Video, Verizon Wireless’ multimedia service with news, sports and entertainment video clips, 3D games, V Cast Music and V Cast Mobile TV.

SlashGear Exclusive: Live video of Verizon’s Voyager smartphone

Out of all of Verizon’s holiday lineup, the most anticipated (and the most hyped) has been the Voyager. A clamshell with full touchscreen on the outside and QWERTY keypad for fulsome messaging on the inside, it’s been granted the usual title of “iPhone Killer” and Verizon’s Chief Marketing Officer Mike Lanman pushed out all his chips by saying “we think it’ll be the best phone … it will kill the iPhone“. SlashGear’s Vincent Nguyen cajoled some hands-on time with the Voyager at CTIA – including some exclusive video of it in action – and gave some preliminary feedback; we’ll be bringing you a full review later on when we’ve had time to really get to know the handset’s quirks.
