Is a Google Phablet Next?

Samsung has done it with the Galaxy Note, LG jumped on board today with the Optimus Vu: will Google and Motorola phollow in their phablet phootsteps? We won't know how the Vu holds up until Mobile World Congress in a week's time, but already the phone/tablet hybrid segment is getting interesting. The lingering question is whether phablets are the standout form-factor of 2012 or merely a fad, and it could be Google and imminently-acquired Motorola Mobility that swing the decision one way or another.

LG Optimus Vu official: Galaxy Note gets competition

LG has officially revealed its new 5-inch LG Optimus Vu smartphone/tablet hybrid, challenging Samsung's Galaxy Note with a stylus-enabled 1.5GHz dual-core LTE handset. Teased earlier this month - and now revealed a week ahead of MWC 2012 and its official official debut - the Optimus Vu mimics a mini-iPad with its 4:3 aspect 1024 x 768 screen; like the iPad it uses an IPS panel, too, here with 650 nits brightness. At launch, the Optimus Vu will run Android 2.3 Gingerbread, but LG is promising Ice Cream Sandwich within three months of that.

LG Optimus 3D 2 photo leaked, details included

Leading up to Mobile World Congress 2012, we're seeing heaps of leaked images and details of devices in the mobile world, the latest being the LG Optimus 3D 2. This device is set to be the next generation 3D device from LG, the first being of course the LG Optimus 3D, and is set to trump the first edition with specifications that make it thinner, lighter, and as you can see - whiter. This device will also do away with capacitive buttons if our sources are correct, the front of the device relying on buttons from the operating system instead - but will it be Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich?

LG Optimus Vu teased: 5-inch odd-scale Android smartphone

LG has begun teasing a new 5-inch Android handset, the LG Optimus Vu, presumably ahead of a Mobile World Congress launch later this month. The oversized smartphone features an unusual 4:3 aspect ratio display, which LG argues is a better fit for the human hand, while inside is tipped to be a 1.5GHz Qualcomm WPQ8060 dual-core paired with 1GB of RAM.
