Images of Verizon’s upcoming LG Chocolate Touch VX8575 have leaked, and it seems that the BL40’s distinctive stylings were indeed too unusual for the CDMA carrier’s tastes. According to phoneArena, Verizon had two prototypes of their Chocolate Touch – one resembling the BL40, the other a more restrained design – and following focus groups decided to go with the somewhat mundane style you see here.
The LG BL40 has been something of a mystery, not so much in specs or even images, but more than anything else a mystery in of itself. The sheer aesthetics of the device make the average person cock their head to the side, and scratch the top of their skull in wonderment. Is that a phone? It sure is, and it just so happens to be a perfect phone for watching widescreen movies.
LG hasn’t always been known of releasing strange looking phones, but chalk it up to the BL40 to take that prize, and wear the belt proudly. There is something to gain from having an elongated screen, sure, like watching videos on your new-fangled device, but we can’t help but wonder about every day use. And it looks like the guys over at Mobile Review are feeling the same way, after having some time to play around with it and take a plethora of snapshots.
Nothing like a leaked carrier roadmap to whet the upgrade appetite, and going by the Boy Genius Reports’ slice of Verizon’s not-too-distant future there’ll be plenty of CDMA handsets on offer to those bored with their current phone. As well as a fair sized dollop of BlackBerry detail, there’s also a splash of Android and some feature-phones to be had too.

We’re still waiting for LG’s Q3 2009 launch of the BL40 “Chocolate” phone, so until then we’ll have to make do with stolen time and sneaky glimpses of the elongated touchscreen featurephone. Now that LG have officially announced their latest Chocolate phone, the BL40, it seems the floodgates have opened for unofficial hands-on. Russian site mobile@mail.ru are the latest, offering up not only plentiful shots of the 4.0-inch 800 x 345 “cinema-like” touchscreen handset in its various menus and options pages, but alongside some of LG’s other recent marvels.
The first official information about the BL40 “New Chocolate” feature-phone from LG has emerged, complete with several glossy shots of the 21:9 aspect touchscreen device. As expected, the BL40 has a 4.0-inch 800 x 345 “cinema-like” display, which LG suggest is ideal for viewing full-width webpages without zooming. Elsewhere, the company has introduced a “Dual Screen UI” which splits the display in two for showing multiple content-types simultaneously.
