lenovo ideapad y550The IdeaPad Y550 15.6-inch model from Lenovo has been on our radar for awhile, but we didn’t know very much about it, at least when it comes to specifics. Until now, that is. This 15.6-inch notebook is meant for those looking to make the most of multimedia applications and focuses in on entertainment.

The details didn’t come out in the form of an official release; rather, they were leaked by a retailer called Fad Fusion. This notebook has an Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 processor, 4GB of DDR3 system memory, a 320 GB hard drive, GMA X4500MHD integrated graphics, a 1366 x 768 resolution display and a DVD burner. The display also uses LED backlight and has a 16:9 aspect ratio.

There’s no doubt about it: this notebook really packs a punch. With built-in stereo speakers, a subwoofer and Dolby Home Theater 2 tech, you’re sure to get a great movie experience out of it. Plus, the 1.3 megapixel web cam, 802.11n WiFi, and 6-cell battery round out the portable media package. A multi-touch trackpad is expected to be included as well. You can expect to pay around $826 for this notebook whenever it’s finally released.

The story behind the Lenovo Pocket Yoga has emerged, courtesy of Johnson Li, Director of Lenovo’s Beijing Innovation Center where the first blurry images of the netbook were snapped.  Despite what the images released earlier today might suggest, the Pocket Yoga is no new design but in fact a two year old concept.

Lenovo have quietly released official images of their mysterious netbook, together with confirming the device’s name.  The Lenovo Pocket Yoga has a broad, narrow display like the VAIO P, but unlike the Sony the Pocket Yoga’s display is a touchscreen with stylus.

Snapped seemingly while being dragged through Lenovo’s offices in Beijing, this leather-clad netbook/ultraportable prototype bears a striking resemblance to the Sony VAIO P.  Details on the device are scant, and it’s not even clear whether the prototype is functional or not.

asus logoASUS has been snubbed by the Chinese government, as the only member of the top five branded PC vendors to not be found eligible for subsidies under that country’s rural stimulus program.  Dell, HP, Lenovo and Acer all qualified for the scheme, which attempts to promote market growth in rural areas of China where an estimated 800m of the country’s 1.3bn population live.

Lenovo has announced that eight of its ThinkPad notebooks have passed military-standards for ruggedization, making them not only resistant to pressure, humidity, temperature, dust and vibration, but to a greater extent than some “mil-spec” rivals.  The ThinkPad X200, X301, X200s, X200 Tablet, T400, T500, R400 and SL300 all passed durability tests despite not being specifically marketed as ruggedized models.

Lenovo’s ThinkPad W700ds may have been around for a few weeks, but CES has been the first opportunity we at SlashGear have had to play with the dual-display behemoth.  Based on Lenovo’s original W700, complete with a Wacom graphics digitizer integrated into the palm rest, the W700ds adds a pull-out 10.6-inch LCD display that slides from the main 17-inch panel.  It’s an interesting concept, but our hands-on impressions leave us wondering if the compromises are worth it.
