KRE-O construction Transformer sets hit stores

KRE-O construction Transformer sets hit stores

Hasbro is the toy company that was behind some of the toys that shaped my youth. Specifically, I had all the Transformers that my parents would let me have. I often broke them trying to transform them from robot to vehicle or whatever and they were a lot of fun. I also had loads of LEGO as a kid and spent more than a few days grounded thanks to the little blocks and my tendency to leave them laying around for my parents to step on.

LEGO-licious Star Wars Sandcrawler used 10,000 bricks

LEGO-licious Star Wars Sandcrawler used 10,000 bricks

I mentioned a cool LEGO kit yesterday that is the largest Technic set LEGO has ever offered at about 2,000 pieces. That LEGO kit is nothing compared to this DIY LEGO construct that Marshal Banana spent nine months building. That is a long time for the birthing process of a 3-foot long 10,000-piece Star Wars Sandcrawler. I would have never finished something this epic. The crawler has remote control steering and is incredibly detailed.

Gigantic LEGO Technic set is a Mercedes Unimog truck

Gigantic LEGO Technic set is a Mercedes Unimog truck

Geeks like LEGO, specifically the LEGO Technic sets that are so crazily detailed that you have to put the littlie LEGO pistons into the little LEGO engines of some models. The latest LEGO Technic set to be unveiled is a scale model of a truck that we rarely see in the States, but is apparently pretty common in Europe. The truck the kit is modeled after is the Mercedes Benz Unimog. That is a strange name, Unimog sounds like some sort of subterranean mythical creature that Hercules fought.

LEGO has to be one of the more impressive and geeky building systems ever dreamed up. The people that invented the little bricks should win a Nobel Prize for something. It never ceases to impress me that geeks can build some very interesting gear using the little blocks. The last time I talked about a LEGO build was when a geek built himself a Master Chief suit out of the bricks. Now a guy has taken a box full of bricks and made his own musical instrument.

Halo Master Chief suite made from LEGO

Halo Master Chief suite made from LEGO

We can never underestimate the ability of a geek with a desire and a bunch of LEGO bricks to build anything that can be dreamed up. At times, we see things made for LEGO and while the scale of the construction is impressive, the overall design isn't that difficult to imagine someone building. Take that LEGO brick wall I mentioned last week, that was huge and impressive, but we have all built walls with LEGO.

LEGO wall is on display, and it’s awesome

I love LEGO and I have, since I was a kid. I was a LEGO genius as a child. I didn’t need no stink' instructions. I could build anything on the box just from looking at the images. I also got in trouble more than a few times for getting bored with LEGO and leaving the parts lying around. As an adult massive things made of the building blocks intrigue me and when those massive things made of LEGO end up in a museum setting on display, I have to write about it.

Awesome wearable Lego minifig space helmet reads comics

Lego is perhaps the greatest of all geek toys ever invented. The things you can make out of Lego are limitless and with the right vision and the correct blocks and servos you can make just about anything and have the finished contraption actually work. We talked about a couple really cool Lego devices that some geeks built late last week. I really liked the Lego assembly line setup the best out of those cool offerings last week.

Your Daily Dose of LEGO

Your Daily Dose of LEGO

Is LEGO better than coffee for getting through your day? I wouldn't skip the caffeine, but you can definitely check these out. We have here two separate LEGO projects, both impressive in their own right, for distinctly different reasons. They're both built with the Technic line. The first is an adjustable stand so that bad pixel over at instructables could play Game Boy on his Nexus One using a Wiimote. The second is a robotic factory line with four fully articulated picker arms, or as Chris Shepherd aka LegoShep aka TheOnlyShep calls it, the Lego Quad Delta Robot System.
