Sony's latest LCD display isn't going to revolutionize your desktop or home entertainment experience, but it might just blind you if you surreptitiously check your phone in bed. The 3-inch White Magic panel doubles brightness by adding a fourth, white pixel to each RGB cluster: that pixel - along with some image processing tech - can be used to boost outdoor visibility or, in a power saving mode, provide regular LCD performance but at half the energy draw.

Hitachi has announced a new small screen that is sure to find its way onto smartphones and other portable gadgets in the coming months. The new screen is 4.5-inches wide and supports 3D content. The screen needs no glasses for viewing the 3D content either and it has HD resolution so you can watch the HD content you like too. That HD resolution is as interesting as the 3D tech to me.

Apple Thunderbolt Display revealed

It's not just a new MacBook Air and Mac mini fresh from Apple's Cupertino labs this morning. The company has also officially introduced its updated Apple Thunderbolt Display, now complete with a pair of Thunderbolt connections allowing for daisy-chaining of multiple displays from a single socket. Priced at $999, the new display is 27-inches and offers audio, gigabit ethernet, FireWire 800, USB 2.0 and Thunderbolt ports.

LG Cinema 3D DX2000 display uses eye-tracking for glasses-free 3D

LG has outed its latest 3D monitor, the LG Cinema 3D DX2000, and like Toshiba's recent Qosmio F750 3D notebook it uses eye-tracking to offer glasses-free 3D images and video no matter from what angle you're looking at the screen. A webcam integrated into the bezel of the monitor tracks the viewer's eye position and then adjusts the parallax-barrier 3D display to suit, whether they're looking from the side, above or below.

Samsung warns of Q2 profit slump as LCD business dives

Samsung has warned investors to expect a dive in Q2 2011 performance, with the revelation that - despite strong sales of smartphones, like the 3m-selling Galaxy S II - a slump in the LCD business would see profits drop year-on-year by as much as 1.51 trillion won ($1.42bn). The company has promised to reveal full details on July 29 when it releases a full earnings report, but analysts are already pointing to the similarities between the dire Q1 2011 performance and this latest quarter.

NEC unveils new 23-inch MultiSync EX231Wp display

NEC has unveiled a new desktop monitor that lots of features that is thin and lightweight called the MultiSync EX231Wp. The new screen has a 23-inch panel. NEC calls the screen a minimalist design and it has a very thin bezel at 14.6mm with a depth of 14.2mm and a weight of 9.3 pounds with the stand. The screen is LED backlit making it green with power consumption of 27W. The low power consumption makes the monitor one of the most power-efficient in its class.
