Kohjinsha’s SK3 UMPC landed quietly in Japan back in June, and since then we’ve heard little about the 7-inch touchscreen convertible.  Happily the team over at Conics have been able to source at least one SK3, and they’ve shared the video unboxing with us.  Let’s just say, unless they have particularly large hands at Conics, the little Kohjinsha really is tiny.

Kohjinsha’s SK3 UMPC, which we saw yesterday, has been officially launched in Japan.  The 7-inch touchscreen SK3 gets an Intel Atom 1.33GHz processor paired with 1GB of RAM and a 60GB 1.8-inch 4,200rpm hard-drive; there’s also WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.0 and GPS.

It’s ironic that what a year or two would’ve been called a UMPC (and, frankly, ignored by most people, tech writers included) is now called a touchscreen netbook and garners far more interest.  Latest on the block is set to be the Kohjinsha SK3, an upgrade to the existing 7-inch SC3 UMPC.  Among the changes are a new battery and upgraded cameras.

After the SC3 impressed reviewers, now it’s the turn of the Kohjinsha SX3, which was announced at the same time, to go from unboxing to test bench.  The SX3 has a bigger 8.9-inch touchscreen, Super DVD-Multi drive and dual cameras to differentiate it from the 7-inch SC3, but under the hood it’s the same 1.33GHz Atom processor and 1GB of RAM.  There are already quite a few unboxing videos out there, together with a review from Wow-Pow.

Over at Pocketables, Jenn has somehow managed to score some time with Kohjinsha’s super-compact SC3 convertible tablet.  The Atom-based ultraportable has a 7-inch touchscreen, 1GB of RAM (2GB in Jenn’s) and a 60GB hard-drive, and only began shipping in Japan on July 11th.  There, users can take advantage of the 1Seg digital TV tuner too.

Kohjinsha are no strangers to the pages of SlashGear, and given their track record of producing interesting ultraportable tablets it’s little surprise that they’ve had a try at Atom-based ultraportables.  The SC3 and SX3 are two compact convertibles, the former with a 7-inch 1024 x 600 touchscreen and the latter with an 8.9-inch 1280 x 768 touchscreen, both using the 1.33GHz Atom Z520 CPU.  Each has 1GB of RAM and a 60GB hard-drive.
