I have a Kinect for my Xbox 360 that we have had for a while when the thing first landed at my house it didn't work well because the room we had the system in was too small to get decent accuracy with the Kinect. I guess I need to dig the thing out of the cabinet and plug it back in and give it another go in a larger room. Xbox LIVE TV and NUads for Kinect could save TV advertising

Microsoft’s NUads system for Kinect – combining interactive content with adverts – failed to cause waves when the company announced it earlier this week, perhaps because (unless you’re Apple) it’s a tough sell to make advertising sexy. Intended to encourage Xbox 360 users to actually pay attention to promos rather than tuning out until the real content arrives, NUads reacts to spoken and physical commands tracked by the Kinect sensor bar, pulling up more information on products, setting scheduling reminders for upcoming shows, and tweeting out anything that has particularly caught your eye. With a little work, though, it could be the entertainment industry’s salvation.

I think I am like most people in saying that overall, I really loathe ads on TV. I rarely watch them thanks to my DVR. I see more ads on my computer than anywhere and especially on Hulu and Netflix where I have to watch them. One way that I will watch ads and commercials on TVs is if they grab my attention while zipping though DVR fast forward. Kinect for Windows SDK beta launch imminent

Microsoft's Kinect for Windows SDK will be released in beta form this week, according to Microsoft Spain president María Garaña, the toolkit allowing developers to use the motion-tracking hardware with PCs rather than the Xbox 360. Microsoft is rumored to be readying its Project Orapa for an E3 2011 unveil next week, making official the new home entertainment system blending Mediaroom IPTV with Xbox LIVE. VP Frank Shaw has sewn the speculation seeds this week: "put simply," the exec suggests, "Xbox = entertainment and is core to our entertainment strategy" before going on to recap on the streaming content, Natural User Interface technology and multimedia baked into the Xbox platform as it stands.
