Xbox 720 may be “always watching” with mandatory Kinect

One of the most terrifying prospects we've heard in the past few years surrounding a gaming console - or a computer of any type, for that matter, has been re-addressed this week with the Xbox 720. This machine has not yet been confirmed as even being in development by Microsoft as of yet, but another bag of tips has been revealed with specifications and features included with the device that may set your hair on end. The first and perhaps most important of these is the idea that the included Kinect camera need to be plugged in to the machine at all times - and that it'll be watching you constantly. Microsoft IllumiRoom releases virtual gaming from your TV to fill your lounge

Microsoft has revealed IllumiRoom, the latest fruit of its virtual reality research, using Kinect and projection systems to turn your living room into a huge, immersive gaming environment. EA and Visceral Games announce voice control for Dead Space 3 on Xbox 360 with Kinect

Over the last several years, video games have been becoming more and more interactive with new and innovative controls. The Nintendo Wii spurred this change in video game controls when it introduced motion control to the gaming arsenal. Xbox 360 Nike+ Kinect Training Bundle prepares you for holiday feasting

Microsoft has revealed a new Xbox 360 package, the Nike+ Kinect Training Bundle, complete with a console, Kinect sensor bar, and a copy of the Nike+ Kinect Training game. The set - which also includes a month's Xbox LIVE Gold membership, to whet your appetite - is priced at $249.99 after a $50 discount holiday promotion,  and will be available in the US. Kinect gesture control comes to Google TV via hack

A third-party developer has managed to hook up his Xbox 360 Kinect motion sensor to his Google TV box in order to control it with arm and hand gestures. The best part is that the developer released the app and source code on Github that lets anyone with a bit of coding know-how to try the hack out for themselves. Read The Full Story

Kinect Fusion headed to Kinect for Windows SDK

Kinect Fusion is a project that utilizes the Kinect to create three-dimensional models, and was showcased at Microsoft's BUILD 2012 last week. Xbox 360 “Entertainment for All” adds 250GB console to $99 deal

Microsoft has broadened its subsidized Xbox 360 deal, offering a 2506GB version of the console for $99 or with a Kinect for $149, for those signing up to its new Xbox 360 Entertainment for All plan. Initially launched earlier this year, following phone-style deals where upfront cost is offset by a monthly payment - in this case, a two year contract for Xbox LIVE Gold membership - the extended offer is "coming soon" Microsoft says. Thanks to Microsoft's Xbox 360 Kinect motion-sensing device, hand gesturing is becoming more and more popular, and a lot of innovative companies are trying out the device themselves to come up with new ways to control things through hand gestures. Toyota has made a skateboard concept using a Kinect camera and a Windows 8 tablet to demonstrate some of the technology that the auto manufacturer may possibly implement into their vehicles in the future. Kinect joins the Windows 8 fun with developer support SDK

This week the folks at Microsoft have decided to add Kinect for desktop support to the Windows 8 Desktop app support collection with a full software development kit. This kit will help developers work with the Windows 8-compatible Kinect-running app universe and includes a set of features never before available with the hardware. Company officials have made it clear that developers that've requested the updated kit should start receiving it today - of course you could simply head on over to the Developer Center and grab it now as well, if you wanted. We've had a rather interesting Tuesday here at SlashGear, thanks in no small part to RIM. The company held its BlackBerry Jam today, introducing us to new BlackBerry 10 features like Peek and Flow. We also learned that BlackBerry 10 will come with support for your favorite social networks, even offering a native Facebook app. Carrier testing on the new mobile OS will begin next month, and RIM CEO Thorsten Heins said that BlackBerry has a good shot at becoming number three behind Android and iOS. We've seen amateur and professional developers alike do some really cool things with Microsoft's Kinect since the motion control peripheral launched in 2010. Interestingly enough, many of these cool things have nothing to do with video games, but that's another story for another time.
