There has been speculation for months now that a new Kindle eReader or two was inbound. Amazon has registered a new domain name that is called KindleAir.com. The thought is that the new domain registration hints at what the next generation Kindle will be like. The assumption that the URL hints at a product is an easy one since the registration of kindlesocialnetwork.com and kindlesocialnetworking.com come after word of social networking features surfaced. Kindle, WSJ, Spotify iOS apps & more lose store links

, Jul 25th 2011 Discuss [17]

Multiple iOS apps have been updated this weekend to remove in-app purchasing links, with the WSJ, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, Spotify and others apparently complying with Apple’s stricter rules. Apple quietly updated its terms & conditions back in June, no longer preventing services from selling content outside of apps – as had been originally the case – but insisting that in-app links to external stores be removed.

Amazon offers up to 80% off digital textbook rentals

, Jul 18th 2011 Discuss [2]

Amazon has gone and done all the college students out there a solid with a new savings program for textbooks. Amazon is offering students 80% off the price of any print textbook as a digital rental on the Kindle. That means you can get your books in digital format, save a ton of loot, and hit the parents up for a new eReader with justification. The only downside I see is that you won't be able to sell your books for beer money after dropping a class. Read The Full Story

Amazon Android Tablet Suite Takes Shape

, Jul 13th 2011 Discuss [5]

The mobile team at Amazon, if there really is such a magical mystical force, will be flipping around in their beds again tonight as more information about the fabled Amazon Android tablets has once again reached our, and now your, ears. First, these tablets will be being released before October of this year, 2011, second, this will not interfere with nor will it replace plans to continue to produce the Kindle. On the contrary, says our source, in fact they mean to work together – whether or not this meant physically, in hardware, or just in the idea that they’d tend to different audiences was unclear.

If you still don’t have an eReader one of the best out there is the Amazon Kindle 3G. The cool part about having a 3G connection in your eReader is that you can get new books anywhere you happen to be without having to search for a WiFi connection. iPlayer for Kindle puts TV shows on your ereader

, Jul 7th 2011 Discuss [0]

As bizarre, brilliant ideas go, "iPlayer for Kindle" has to be one of the best. Despite initially sounding like an April Fool - video content on an E Ink ereader? - it's actually a real project by Frisnit Electronic Industrial, taking TV shows and converting them into a digital comic strip of sorts, complete with subtitles. For the very first time, Consumer Reports has nudged the Nook ahead of the Kindle in its e-reader rankings. Read The Full Story

3G on my Ereader, not my Tablet

, May 27th 2011 Discuss [3]

Amazon and B&N are taking pot-shots at each other this week, each competing on whose ereader lasts longest. As ereaders gain in popularity and become more mainstream, too, I’m increasingly asked which model I’d go for and, more often, whether I’d pay extra for those with integrated 3G or save my money and opt for WiFi-only instead. Funnily enough, my stance on 3G ereaders is the complete opposite of my thoughts on 3G tablets.

NOOK battery whips even recalculated Kindle insists B&N

, May 26th 2011 Discuss [1]

The aftermath of the new Barnes & Noble NOOK being announced has seen the ebook retailer locked in a battery life battle with arch rival Amazon, as the two firms spar over whose ereader lasts longer. Having seen B&N launch the touchscreen NOOK with the claim it would run for up to two months on a single charge, Amazon tweaked its own Kindle battery life estimates to match based on the presumed usage equation: wireless off and 30 minutes of use a day, or half what it had originally accounted for with the Kindle figures. Turns out, though, B&N is using no such sum, and reckons the new NOOK has demonstrably more stamina. Read The Full Story
