Amazon's impressive new Kindle Paperwhite is set to launch in just a couple of days, but Barnes and Noble has decided that its going to put up a fight. Both Target and Walmart are showing that the price of the Nook Simple Touch with GlowLight has been cut just ahead of the Paperwhite's launch. The new price of the Nook GlowLight? $119, the same price that Amazon has given the basic Paperwhite model.

Today, the iPhone 5 launched in 22 additional regions around the world, setting Apple's plan to have it in over 100 countries by the end of the year on track. Apple CEO Tim Cook apologized for the sad state of Apple Maps today (recommending some other Maps apps in the process), and we took a closer look at his words in a new column. Even more surprising is the fact that the iOS App Store now features a download page specifically for other Maps applications.

Amazon has released a video showing their team of engineers that've worked on the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite explaining the technology that makes it a top of the line device in the e-reader universe today. What you've got here is sharpness and brightness enough to view in many conditions - but it's more than that. Because it's not optimal to look at a book with the area around the letters shining brightly directly into your eyes, the Kindle crew here has turned the whole show on its head, shining light from the side of the screen across it, down toward the display through a reflecting film layer just 0.5mm thin.

Amazon Kindle Fire full event video and wrap-up
This week the folks at Amazon introduced a set of new Kindle tablets including a refresh of the Kindle Fire, two new Kindle Fire HD tablets, and a reader called Paperwhite. This last entry in the list of new items might be the most overlooked to the biggest news seekers, but it’s set to overtake a still massive ereader market with technology that’s set to dash standard E-Ink’s brains out – and it’s relatively inexpensive, too! The original Kindle Fire was refreshed with a lower price, and both the Kindle Fire HD 7 and 8.9 were introduced with pre-orders starting today.

Amazon made a ton of major announcements during its press event today, wowing the crowd with the reveal multiple new Kindle Fires including an HD variant. While the Kindle Fire HD is certainly something to get excited about, so is the Kindle Paperwhite, Amazon’s latest iteration in its line of Kindle eReaders. Don’t be fooled by your expectations for eReaders, though, because the Kindle Paperwhite brings a number of innovations to the table.

If you were waiting to see the strangest new innovation in the Kindle Fire universe this week coming from Amazon, you can bet that X-Ray is it. Here with a bit of a magic from a collection of 3rd party brands like IMDB, Amazon is able to offer you instant information about the media you're working with. If you're watching a movie from Amazon, for example, you can simply tap the film playing and IMDB will pop up with everything you need.

Kindle Paperwhite 3G priced at $179 while original gets price chop
The new Kindle Paperwhite is official, an ereader with a display technology from Amazon that's bringing on a whole new level of readability. With this device you'll be able to easily adjust the light which flows through the display and the whole display has become a whole new level of sharp as well. The Kindle Fire was a big inspiration for this device, Amazon noted, with such features as cover mode - allowing you to look at all the content on the device in addition to the cloud.

Kindle Paperwhite arrives with backlit screen
Just as we were expecting, Amazon pulled the veil off the newest iteration of the Kindle today. Dubbed the Kindle Paperwhite, by far the most noteworthy feature about this new eReader is its display. With it, we're seeing Amazon make a departure from the Pearl E Ink display it has used in previous Kindles and instead go for a white display that comes complete with a backlight.
