Kindle Fire HD 8.9 hands-on

Though we wont be able to have a peek at AT&T’s 4G LTE version of the tablet until later this year, Amazon has allowed us a quick touchy-feely experience with the 8.9-inch version of the Kindle Fire HD before its software is finalized. What we’re seeing here is the slightly larger version of the Kindle Fire HD 7, that being essentially the same size as the standard Kindle Fire which also got a refresh this week. The Kindle Fire HD 8.9 is the company’s new flagship device, we would say, with an 8.9-inch display made to compete directly with Apple’s iPad.

Kindle Fire HD tablets appear on sale at Amazon

The Kindle Fire HD 7, Kindle Fire HD 8.9, and Kindle Fire HD 8.9 4G LTE are all available for purchase on Amazon now, with their prices being, in order, $199, $299, and $499. The lesser two of the three devices have 16GB of internal storage while the 4G LTE 8.9-inch tablet has 32GB of internal storage - otherwise it's essentially the same as the wi-fi only model 8.9. These devices work with an updated user interface over the original Kindle Fire and include several software upgrades and features that set them aside from the rest of the ereader and media player mobile universe. Kindle Fire HD 7 hands-on

This week we’ve had the opportunity to take a peek at the next generation of media tablets by the name of Amazon Kindle Fire HD. There are two new devices, one of them being a 7-inch tablet, the other a 8.9-inch tablet, and both of them will be released alongside a slight upgrade to the original Kindle Fire which has also had a price cut to compete with the Google Nexus 7. The Kindle Fire HD in its 8.9-inch display edition has a 1920 x 1200 display (or 254 ppi) display while the smaller device has not yet had its entire set of specifications released – rest assured though, they’ll be a bit of a bump over the refreshed standard edition.

Kindle Fire HD LTE $50 a year with one big catch

There's a brand new Amazon tablet out there on the market - up for pre-sale today and shipping in October - the Kindle Fire HD, and for just $50 a year, you can get 4G LTE connectivity with it. Of course the device will cost you $499 in the first place - but that's not the catch. The catch is that this data plan with 4G LTE through AT&T, $49.99 though it is, will limit you to 250MB of data per month - and if you're anything like us, you'll go through that amount of data in no time at all. Just as the rumors foretold, the Kindle Fire HD has arrived, and it has a bevy of features in tow. Amazon obviously wants to position itself as a major player in the technology market, which is all well and good, but before we can give Amazon a pat on the back, we need to get down to the nitty gritty and talk pricing. Amazon introduces X-Ray technology for Kindle lineup

If you were waiting to see the strangest new innovation in the Kindle Fire universe this week coming from Amazon, you can bet that X-Ray is it. Here with a bit of a magic from a collection of 3rd party brands like IMDB, Amazon is able to offer you instant information about the media you're working with. Amazon Kindle Fire Whispersync introduced with Anne Hathaway and Samuel L Jackson

If you ever sat there reading an e-book to yourself and thought, wow, I wish I could read this book out loud while Samuel L Jackson read it out loud with me - Amazon says you're in luck. This week along with the new Kindle Fire HD line and refresh of the original Kindle Fire, they've shown off a technology called Whyspersync for Voice - this brings on Bimodal reading for those who have difficulty reading and for high-functioning readers alike. Kindle Fire HD introduced with new 8.9-inch size

This week the folks at Amazon have revealed a set of Kindle Fire devices that take their original hit and make it high definition. There are two sizes here, one with an 8.9-inch display and another with a 7-inch display, the 8.9-inch display having a lovely 1920 x 1200 pixel resolution. This new larger device has IPS LCD display technology and works with 254 PPI – and it’s more expensive than the Kindle Fire’s regular refresh, of course.
