There was a time when getting ready to leave the house meant grabbing keys and your chimney-sweeper; now, we’re stuffing out pockets and bags with phones, tablets, portable chargers, games consoles, and more. For those paranoid about forgetting something – or losing it along the way - Kensington offers the Proximo, an app-based tracking system that uses Bluetooth fobs to keep tabs on your essentials.

The Proximo system can track up to five items concurrently, with the iPhone app showing their distance and pinging up a warning if you’re leaving them behind. Kensington offers a Fob, which hooks onto your keychain, and a Tag, which is designed to attach to other items; each runs for about six months on the replaceable CR2042 Li-Ion coin-style battery.

Inside there’s Bluetooth Smart 4.0, noted for its power-frugal efficiency. That’s what means you don’t have to keep recharging the Fobs and Tags every few days; Kensington will sell a Proximo Starter Kit, with one Fob and one Tag, and then subsequent Tags separately.

Individual distances before a reminder sounds can be set for each of the dongles, and the button on the Fob, when pressed, triggers an alarm on your iPhone, just in case it’s it that’s lost. The Proximo Starter Kit will be priced at $59.99, while each additional Tag will be $24.99.

If you leave your iPad sitting in an area that’s unsecure and fear someone might steal it, Kensington has an accessory you might want to check out. The accessory is called the KeyFolio Secure Keyboard Case & Lock, and it uses some of Kensington’s famous security tech that has been around in the notebook world for a long time. This case is made specifically for the iPad 2.

The case includes Kensington’s ClickSafe one click locking mechanism and has an integrated security tether to secure the tablet on the go. The stand has adjustable angle so you can put the screen in the most comfortable position, and the integrated keyboard connects to your iPad via Bluetooth. When you’re done using the tablet, the keyboard closes over the screen to protect it from damage.

The keyboard is removable allowing you to use the locking case and no keyboard if you want. The case also has an integrated loop to hold a pen or stylus and the case leaves all iPad controls and the docking connector uncovered. Official pricing on the locking keyboard case is unknown, but other similar cases from Kensington range from $60 to a bit over $100.

If you say Kensington to me, I automatically think about the notebook locks and the little port for those locks that is on just about every small computer on the market to keep them from being stolen. Kensington makes a lot more than just notebook locks though with a full range of peripherals and other stuff. The latest peripheral to come out of Kensington is the Orbit Wireless Mobile Trackball.

The Trackball is an input device that works like a mouse and is favored by people with carpal tunnel or those that have little room for mousing. You move the ball to control the cursor and the little wireless version is sized for portability. The Orbit uses 2.4GHz wireless tech and comes with a tiny nano receiver that can be stored inside the Orbit when needed.

The Orbit has touch scrolling for zipping through pages fast. The peripheral is also ambidextrous so left handed users can play. Kensington ships the Orbit with TrackBall Works software for customization and the device is plug-and play. It will work with Mac or PC computers and can be pre-ordered now for $59.99.

Kensington has a lock on the notebook security market to the point that every laptop I have ever seen has a Kensington lock port on the side to allow you to lock your laptop to the desk to prevent theft. The company has taken the laptop lock that is has sold for years and made the thing easier to use so people are more likely to lock their note books down.

The new Kensington lock is called the ClickSafe. The part of the locking system that actually plugs into your laptop is the same as it always was and uses the same common locking port. The notebook portion is a little metal locking tab that goes into the Kensington lock port on your notebook and twists. It leaves a rounded knob sticking out of the side of your notebook.

When you need to lock the notebook down for a trip to the bathroom all you have to do is press the locking side of the ClickSafe to the little notebook nub and the notebook is secure. The cable for the ClickSafe lock is breakproof tempered carbon steel and the lock on the cable has thousands of possible combinations. The tumbler key is also pickproof. The home version of the ClickSafe lock is $49.99.

We can’t say we’ve ever thought the iPad fell short when it comes to battery life, but Kensington obviously aren’t content with its 10+ hours of runtime. The new Kensington PowerBack Battery Case with Kickstand and Dock is basically a mophie juice pack for the Apple slate, combining a battery good for an extra 5hrs, edge-protection and a useful three-position stand that will work in both portrait and landscape orientations.

Charging the 4,400 mAh battery is done via microUSB port, which also works to recharge the iPad itself and sync it with iTunes, so you can finally leave Apple’s proprietary cable at home. An LED charge indicator, soft-touch case and “speaker deflectors” – which redirect the sound from the iPad’s speaker on the bottom edge, so that it’s funnelled out the front instead – round out the package. It’s up for preorder now, priced at $129.99.

Press Release:

Kensington® Announces New iPad Accessories to Deliver Continuous Power and Protection Everywhere You Go, Anyplace You Stay

Smart Made Simple™ Accessories Provide iPad Enthusiasts with the Power to Stay Productive Longer, In the Car or On-the-Go

Redwood Shores, Calif. – September 13, 2010 – Kensington Computer Products Group, a worldwide leader in delivering smart made simple™ computing and smartphone accessories, today introduced three new iPad accessories to help boost productivity for users of the tablet computer on-the-go or in the car. Kensington’s connectivity enhancers are designed to be the breakthrough iPad accessories for users in need of extra versatility and best performance everywhere they go, anyplace they stay. The clever new products are a natural extension of Kensington’s celebrated line of smart made simple computing and smartphone accessories, now offering power and protection to bring unlimited use to the iPad.

Kensington’s PowerBack™ Battery Case with Kickstand and Dock is an innovative, all-in-one design that integrates battery charging, protective casing, three-position kickstand and dock abilities. The built-in charger provides up to five extra hours of power for iPad, while the simple slip-on case protects the tablet computer in a compact and easy to carry form factor for use in all environments. The PowerBack’s kickstand adapts to individual user needs by offering three convenient viewing modes for iPad: portrait mode is best for photo viewing and web browsing, landscape mode makes video watching a joy, and typing mode makes texting and emailing via iPad easy and comfortable.

Eliminate the need for multiple chargers with the Kensington Wall Pack Duo Charger that simultaneously powers two iPad, iPhone, or iPod devices from a single wall outlet. Featuring a low profile design that is ideal for everyday use at home or in the office, the extra power source also includes a detachable USB sync cable to sync devices from a computer. Kensington’s PowerBolt™ Duo Car Charger offers a quick charge on the road to both an iPad and iPhone, iPod, or other mobile device, and features two power ports to simultaneously renew energy for maximum efficiency.

“We recognize that the iPad is the next generation of personal and professional technology, creating a new demand for convenient power and protection for an everyday digital lifestyle,” said Juan Rodriguez, Senior Global Product Manager, Kensington. “We strive to develop products that help deliver user efficiency and complement all environments in which mobile users spend their time, regardless of whether it’s at home, on the road, or in the air.”

At the June 2010 Worldwide Developer’s Conference, Apple announced its extraordinary success in iPad sales with an estimate that there is one iPad sold every 3 seconds. Since then, the high demand for the product continues to grow from business users in particular. In fact, according to a recent report by BusinessWeek, the future enterprise device of choice for mobile workers will be an iPad. As today’s workforce relies more on the tablet computer to complete business tasks and transactions, accessories that extend connectivity of the iPad will become essential to achieving productivity.

Color options include gray and green or gray and blue. You can get both stands now for $19.99 and $39.99, respectively.

But this thing is super sleek and not bulky like many other versions. It’s still strong, however and uses a disk-style keyed locking mechanism. You just attach the lock to the security slot that most notebooks have.

Included with the lock is a rubber tie, letting you keep the cord tucked away when not in use. You can get the MicroSaver DS Keyed Ultra-Thin Notebook Lock now for $54.99.

A total of five new products were launched today and they all help to improve the functionality of your netbook in one way or another.

Two new mice were announced today, one wired and one wireless that will cost $14.99 and $24.99, respectively. But that’s not what’s stellar. The truly impressive announcement was the new Power Adapter for Netbooks.

Though it’ll set you back $49.99, this power adapter is actually compatible with several netbooks and works across a wide variety of platforms. It includes a USB port for convenience’s sake as well. The other accessories announced today include a reversible sleeve for $14.00 and a security lock for $24.99.

What makes this Kensington offering special is it’s combination of features. For instance, it can support up to five different USB devices, acting as a universal hub. But it also has a DVI monitor, which can be connected to your notebook computer via wireless technology. Whenever your notebook comes in range of the station, you’re connected.

Speaker ports are also included. And the best part is you can use any notebook that supports Wireless USB. You should be able to get your own docking station come month’s end from either Dell or Kensington.

This way you can connect your cell phone, digital camera, or whatever else you have that connects via mini USB. You can use it just to charge your gadgets or you can use it for data transfer between your computer and the device.

There also appears to be a standard USB port under the same door for such things as flash drives. This keyboard would allow you to hide away your computer without having to worry too much about having access to enough USB ports, especially if your monitor has a few on them as well. It costs $50 and is available from Kensington.

One of the bags offered is on wheels and although I really don’t like the idea of rolling my laptop around, I understand the necessity for some. I myself have a bad back and have on occasion not been able to carry my laptop bag. The Contour Balance bags are made to be ergonomic, compact and made from water-resistant fabrics.

They also feature a impact-resistant laptop compartment. The bags come in three different designs, one having the classic shoulder strap design, another a backpack and the third being the handy one that you can wheel about. Prices have not been announced just yet.

Well this basically looks like that and does the same thing, but with electricity.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a smaller, more convenient travel adapter for getting electricity to your devices before. It might be a pain to try and make it through airport security with this as it surely looks menacing as far as gadgets go, but it does seem extremely useful.

By extremely useful I mean it will help you get power to your iPod, laptop, or phone in up to 150 countries. It also has a fuse built in so you don’t blow your precious gear up, or your room, you can get it now at Amazon for about $20.

Using DisplayPort you can connect up to 6 monitors. There are also monitors out there with DisplayLink built in, but you don’t need one of those monitors to use this Kensington dual-display adapter, you can literally use any monitor, it has both DVI and VGA outs and I think you can connect one monitor of each type to this adapter.

Basically it acts as an external video card allowing you to either extend or mirror your desktop to up to a total of 6 monitors. If you want one, you’ll have to wait until the second quarter, and all we have is an estimated price of $99.

So in order to transmit a video signal over USB and have it come out the other end on a monitor, you are pretty much guaranteed to need something with DisplayLink, as that’s pretty much how it works. Well this docking station possesses such powers, and more.

The docking station also replicates mic, audio out, 4 USB ports, Ethernet, and with the DisplayLink chipset, VGA. The VGA output can be a mirror image, or used to extend you desktop onto another monitor.

The DL-120 DisplayLink hardware that’s in this beast allows you to output up to a 1440×900 maximum resolution. So if you have a laptop as your primary computing solution, and you need more than the affixed monitor, and the likely built in VGA out on your laptop can provide, you can get one of these from Kensington. No word on price or availability though.

The first, the LiquidFM transmitter is designed to work with mp3 players, specifically the iPod. It has the standard headphone jack connector, but there is also an in-line USB port for charging while you listen to your tunes.

The LiquidFM transmitter also utilizes Kensington’s ClearFM technology so it can output high quality sound even over the FM radio. It also has QuickSeek and RDS which helps decrease the time it takes to find a clear station and the RDS tech displays track info on compatible head units.

The second product is the company’s Contour Active Cases for notebooks. The contour panel helps with the ergonomics of the case, making it easier to carry. The notebook case doesn’t have pricing available, but the LiquidFM did. The LiquidFM for iPod and LiquidFM Plus for MP3 Players are the different models, they are priced at $80 and $70 respectively, the iPod version loses the headphone jack and USB port in favor of the Dock Connector.

First there is the SlimBlade Media Mouse, a laser mouse that also has media playback controls, like volume, play/pause, and next/previous. There is also a navigation pad and a 360 degree scroll ball, ala the BlackBerry Pearl if I had to guess.

Then the SlimBlade Presenter Mouse which has two major features, first the 4-way tilt scroll. Then there is the small USB receiver that tucks away inside the mouse itself. This mouse is also available in two colors, deep blue and ice blue.

The next logical step is to combine those two, and they did, with the SlimBlade Presenter Media Mouse which has the scrolling ball, and the nav pad. It apparently retains all the other features of the presenter mouse though.

The last addition to the Kensington line is the SlimBlade Trackball Mouse which has the scroll ball, Bluetooth connectivity, and a battery level light. The four mice are available now I presume, and are priced, in order of mention, as follows: $59.99 for the Media Mouse, $49.99 for the Presenter Mouse, $79.99 for the Presenter Media Mouse, and $99.99 for the Trackball Mouse.
