JVC is demonstrating its 4K home theater projectors at CES 2012, which we first saw back in December. The projectors are being touted as the first to display 2D HD content with full 4K resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels or about four times that of full HD. The consumer-focused JVC Procision Series 3D-enabled lineup consists of three models, two of which offer the 4K upconverting technology.

The flagship model is the DLA-X90R, followed by the DLZ-X70R and the DLA-X30. The top two models feature JVC’s 4K e-Shift technology and are also now officially THX 3D Certified. This certification means that the models had to pass more than 400 rigorous tests, including color accuracy in 2D and 3D, crosstalk, uniformity, grayscale tracking, deinterlacing, and convergence.

Other features to note about the projectors include a Lens Memory function that offers three memory settings to store custom focus, zoom, and horizontal or vertical lens shift positions, allowing for a constant height display ratio of 4:3, 16:9, or 2:35 without an additional anamorphic lens. The projectors also allow users to adjust 3D depth and subtitle geometry correction.

The JVC Procision Series D-ILA home theater projectors are available now. The DLA-X90R is priced at $11,999, the DLA-X70R is $7,999, and the DLA-X30 is $3,499.

JVC has announced its 2012 lineup of Everio camcorders, which offers seven new models that span a wide range of needs from simple point-and-shoots to full manual controls. Four of the new models are now equipped with WiFi, which means that your videos and images can now be shared directly from your camcorder over a WiFi network. This combines the image and video quality of traditional camcorders with the convenience and ease of sharing that we get with smartphones.

The built-in WiFi allows you to share your images and videos in several ways and also adds other functionality. With a free app for your Android or iOS device, you can wirelessly transfer videos and still directly from your camcorder to your smartphone. This also lets the phone to be used as a remote control and have its GPS data used for geotagging. You can also email your images directly from the camcorder and there’s a function called Video Email that lets you send 15-second video clips to up to eight email addresses.

The WiFi-enabled Everio also has additional capabilities like a Live Monitoring feature that lets you see in real-time on your smartphone or computer any images or videos taken with the camcorder. An Auto Photo Email feature automatically takes a still photo and emails it to you when it detects movement.

There are three main series in the lineup that breaks down into the E/EX series, the V/VX series, and the GX series. The E/EX models offer simple point-and-shoot functionality great for beginners. The V/VX models steps it up with a sleeker design and higher grade materials such as an aluminum panel LCD door and front panel. It also adds more features like Hi-Speed Recording, Super Slow, and Motor Drive for rapid-fire stills. The top of line Everio is the GX model that records in 1920×1080 Full HD at 60P and shoots 11-megapixel stills.

JVC has launched the world’s first 4K handheld camcorder, the JVC GY-HMQ10, packing a 1/2-inch 8.3-megapixel CMOS sensor capable of recording 3840 x 2160 footage at 24p, 50p or 60p. Priced at just under $5k, the GY-HMQ10 can also output 4k footage in real-time, and has an f/2.8 10x zoom lens with optical image stabilizer, as well as a color viewfinder and 3.5-inch touchscreen LCD.

Inside there’s JVC’s own Falconbrid LSI processing engine – last seen at CES 2011 in the JVC GS-TD1 3D camcorder, when the company promised us a 4k model was in the pipeline - which saves variable bit rate H.264 codec clips to SDHC or SDXC memory cards. Up to 144Mbps bitrate is supported, and the GY-HMQ10 can record up to two hours of 4k video to a card.

Using the touchscreen, users can crop an HD image from a 4k frame, or alternatively the camcorder can be used to capture 8.3-megapixel stills. Obviously 1080i or 1080/60p recording is also possible. There are manual level controls for audio – with both the LCD and viewfinder showing levels – and a microphone holder and two balanced XLR connectors with phantom power up on the handle. Even if you don’t hook up your own microphones, the GY-HMQ10 has an integrated stereo mic of its own.

JVC has added its own Focus Assist technology, as well as manual and auto focus, iris, gain, shutter, gamma, color matrix and white balance control. There are a full four HDMI ports, each capable of pumping out 4k footage in real-time.

The JVC GY-HMQ10 goes up for pre-order today, priced at $4,995, with deliveries expected to kick off in March.

JVC is on hand at the Cedia 2011 expo with some of its cool new home theater gear. The things that caught our collective eye are the line of projectors with 4k resolution. The projectors support up to 3840 x 2160, which is four times the resolution of full 1080p projectors. The projectors include normal and reference series unit.

The consumer focused versions include the Procision Series DLA-X90R, DLA-X70R and DLA-X30. The higher end Reference Series DLA-RS65, DLA-RS55, DLA-RS4800 and DLA-RS45 projectors are the high-end versions. This high-end reference series unit is also have JVC 4K e-shift tech and are also THX 3D certified and can apparently convert 2D to 3D.

That conversion is done with a JVC pro 2D to 3D converter that is derived from its professional converters. While the projector is able to throw images over HD resolution, it does support full 1080p and other resolutions. The 3D projectors use active shutter glasses and have a parallax adjustment to get the ideal 3D image quality.

JVC’s GX-PX1 hybrid camera/camcorder has found itself a US release date and price as the JVC GC-PX10, with the distinctive big-barreled shooter expected to drop later in October for a hefty $899.95. Capable of shooting both 12-megapixel stills and Full HD 1920 x 1080/60p video at up to 36Mbps, as well as super-slow-motion 300fps footage and more, the GC-PX10 is based around JVC’s FALCONBRID processor, and can simultaneously capture 8.3-megapixel photos and Full HD video.

If that wasn’t enough, there’s ISO6400 support and the ability to fire off 8.3-megapixel (3840 x 2160) stills images at a ridiculous 60 shots-per-second – up to a maximum of 130 shots total per burst – or 12-megapixel stills at 30 frames-per-second. Super-slow-motion video, meanwhile, can be recorded for two full hours, though only at VGA resolution.

Optical image stabilization, a 10x optical zoom and white balance, aperture and shutter controls for manual use round out the main specs, while there’s a 3-inch posable touchscreen for control and SDXC/SDHC memory card support. An HDMI port and 32GB of internal storage are also present. Interesting stuff, and JVC is likely to find a few buyers when the GC-PX10 goes on sale sometime in October, even with that $899.95 price tag.

JVC has pulled the wraps off a cool new docking station audio system for the Apple iPhone and iPad. This sort of docking station isn’t something new by any means, but this is the first system I have seen that will dock an iPhone and an iPad at the same time. That means you can charge both of the devices from one dock and play music from either using the audio system aspect of the JVC UX-VJ5 and VJ3 systems. The audio systems are offered in a few colors as well.

The system has a video out for shooting content to your TV and a PC input along with audio input and an integrated AM/FM tuner. The power output for the audio system is 15W per speaker. The difference between the VJ5 and VJ3 systems comes down the VJ5′s CD player hidden under the cover behind where the iPad would sit.

The CD payer does support MP3 files on a CD so you can rip your music collection to a CD and play it inside the system. JVC will toss both versions of the audio system onto the Japanese market at the end of July or early August. The pricing is unannounced, but these don’t look like something particularly cheap to me.

The amp has been upgraded to 40W and there’s a protective hatch to keep your iPhone safe. AC and DC power inputs are supported, and there’s a shoulder strap and remote along with a video output for the picture from your iPod. The JVC Kaboom!
An SDXC card slot, 3D optical 5x zoom, Optical Axis Automatic Stabilization System and Automatic Parallax Adjustment round out the main specs. As we discovered back at CES, the GS-TD1 packs an impressive amount of tech into a reasonably small package; find more in our hands-on report here.

Press Release:

JVC First To Offer Full HD 3D Consumer Camcorder

New GS-TD1 3D camcorder now available

WAYNE, NJ, March 7, 2011 －JVC today announced the availability of a new 3D consumer camcorder, the first on the consumer market that offers 3D video recording in Full High Definition. The new JVC GS-TD1 uses two camera lenses and two imaging sensors – one for each lens – to capture three-dimensional images in much same way that human eyes work.

3D video shot using the GS-TD1. What’s more, the camcorder can shoot 3D video that can be burned to a Blu-ray disc or DVD-R for 3D playback on a compatible Blu-ray player.

“With more commercially-produced 3D content coming along this year, sales of 3D TVs are expected to be strong,” observed Dave Owen, Vice President, Consumer Video, JVC U.S.A. “But what could be better than creating your own home videos in 3D? We think there will be plenty of 3D TV buyers eager to do just that. Furthermore, we think they’ll appreciate that our new camcorder offers both Full HD 3D recording and several options for archiving and playing back their 3D footage.”

The JVC GS-TD1 features a pair of 3.32 megapixel CMOS sensors and a new JVC-developed high-speed imaging engine that processes the two Full HD images – left and right images at 1920 x 1080i resolution. Three shooting modes are offered, a key feature that provides several options for HD resolution and archiving of 3D footage. These three shooting modes are: a new “LR Independent” format (MP4 MVC) that records in Full HD, the widely used “Side-by-Side” format (960 x 1080 X 2) for AVCHD 3D recording, and 2D AVCHD shooting.

The camcorder uses a F1.2 JVC 3D Twin HD GT Lens that sets a new standard in high-resolution lenses, with extra-low-dispersion glass for crisp, high-contrast images, as well as multiple aspherical lenses for fine image reproduction. The combination of the fast F1.2 lens and the back-illuminated CMOS sensors provides the GS-TD1 with outstanding low light performance. The GS-TD1 also features round iris diaphragms that enable beautiful bokeh effect (background blurring) shooting of video and stills alike.

Additional highlights include 64GB of built-in flash memory, SDXC card slot, 3D optical 5x zoom, Optical Axis Automatic Stabilization System for disparity control to give depth to 3D images, JVC’s BIPHONIC technology for dynamic 3D sound and Automatic Parallax Adjustment to optimize the 3D-video comfort zone.

The GS-TD1 operates like other consumer JVC camcorders, with easy-to-use, intuitive controls. A 3.5” 3D touch panel LCD monitor displays 3D images without any need for 3D glasses, making it easy to check 3D images while shooting and watch 3D playback in the field.

The GS-TD1 comes with new Everio MediaBrowser 3D software (for Windows®) for full management, editing and sharing of content. In addition to full-fledged video and still image editing, files can be uploaded effortlessly to social media sites such as YouTube™ or Facebook, and the software allows 3D video to be shared on YouTube.

For archiving and playing back 3D recordings, there are several options depending on the shooting mode used.
· Full HD 3D video, shot using the MP4 MVC mode, can be archived to a computer hard drive or Blu-ray disc drive. This Full HD material can be played back in 3D by running the footage back through the camcorder.
· AVCHD 3D (Side-by-Side mode) video can be burned to a DVD-R disc and played back in 3D on any AVCHD-compatible Blu-ray player – including non-3D AVCHD-compatible Blu-ray players – when the disc was created with a PC or JVC Share Station.

The JVC GZ-TD1 Full HD 3D camcorder is available now for $1,699.95.

Looks like JVC’s GS-TD1 Full HD 3D camcorder has had a price-cut, and that’s before it’s even on sale. Back when we played with the twin-lens shooter at CES 2011, JVC was predicting a cool $2,000 tag for the 64GB camcorder; now, it’s listed at $1,699.95 with a March 2011 launch.

That’s still not exactly cheap, but then there’s not much in the way of competition on the market at the moment. The GS-TD1 is the first consumer camcorder to record 3D in Full HD resolution, using a pair of 3.32-megapixel CMOS sensors, each capable of 1920 x 1080i, and the new Falconbird processor.

There’s also a glasses-free LCD preview display with a touchscreen for controlling the major features, and a 10x optical zoom. All impressive stuff, and we won’t argue a $300 cut ahead of its sales debut.

[Thanks Andy!]

JVC only had a concept of the GX-PX1 hybrid camera/camcorder back at CES 2011, so we spent more time with the 3D-capable GS-TD1 instead, but it seems the company’s engineers have been busy. Impress grabbed some hands-on time with the latest version, which looks a little like a blend of Sony’s NEX interchangeable lens cameras and JVC’s regular camcorders, and it’s shaping up to be an interesting model indeed.

The prominent barrel hides a 10x optical zoom and a back-illuminated sensor capable of up to 10-megapixel stills or 1080/60p HD video recording at up to 36Mbps. Notch down to 5.7-megapixels and you can shoot at a crazy 60fps, while ISO ranges from 100 to 6400.

On the back is a 3-inch, 230k dot touchscreen with a twisty-tilty mount for vanity filming, while storage is courtesy of an SD/SDHC/SDXC card to augment 32GB of internal capacity. Optical image stabilization and a battery good for up to 320 shots round out the key specs. If the image quality is as good as the appearance, this could be one mighty appealing camera when it arrives later in the month.

JVC president Yuta Ito has confirmed to SlashGear that the company’s first 4k2k consumer camcorder is “just around the corner,” bringing super high-resolution video capture to mainstream levels. The new model will be based on the same exclusive JVC Falconbird image processor as in the 3D Everio GS-TD1 camcorder.

Ito could not say exactly what specifications the camcorder would offer, nor the price point JVC expects to hit with the new model. Falconbird is able to record 3840 x 2160/60p video, or of course the Full HD 3D the GS-TD1 is capable of, and is billed as being 2.7x as fast as JVC’s previous processing chips.

JVC’s new Everio GS-TD1 camcorder isn’t the first 3D example we’ve seen, but it is the first to manage Full HD 3D recording. The new JVC Falconbird image processing engine is paired with two 3.32-megapixel CMOS sensors, each capable of 1920 x 1080i, while even the preview display is 3D-capable. Check out our hands-on impressions after the cut.

The Everio GS-TD1 looks bulky, but it’s actually relatively lightweight. Unlike Panasonic’s HDC-TC750 it’s not designed to lose the 3D lens section, but the weight has been well balanced along the length of the camcorder and it doesn’t feel front-heavy. Storage and connectivity are hidden behind the flip-out LCD display. That has a touchscreen layer for control over most of the settings, and it’s crystal clear and responsive. Most importantly, though, is that it uses glasses-free 3D so that you can see exactly what 3D effect you’re getting while recording, rather than – as with the TC750 – having to wait until reviewing footage later. The 3.5-inch panel uses a parallax barrier to split up the left and right images.

Falconbird is a JVC exclusive, and supposedly doubles the power from previous chips. It debuts in the GS-TD1, but will be spreading through the company’s 3D-capable line-up; the same sensor, Kari Bearnarth, senior VP of America JVC marketing told us, is powerful enough to handle 4k2k recording.

It’s obviously tricky to judge image quality from a brief hands-on play, but what we saw in JVC’s booth impressed us. There’s no compromise to the 3D element – you still get HD, unlike other systems which split the resolution of a single sensor – and it looks crisp and bright when viewed full-screen. The JVC Everio GS-TD1 will go on sale in March 2011. For $2,000, it comes equipped with 64GB of internal flash storage space, image stabilizer, 3D sound and a pair of ultra fast, high res, extra-low-dispersion glasses, and a round-iris diaphragm HD GT F1.2 lens.

JVC has unveiled a new consumer 3D camcorder with full HD resolution at CES called the GS-TD1. The new camcorder is the world’s first consumer offering with full HD 3D capability. The camera uses a pair of lenses with 3.32MP CMOS sensors in each lens to capture the 3D images the same way human eyes work.

The camera has 5x optical zoom and promises dynamic 3D sound as well with JVC Biphonic technology for improved audio. A 3.5-inch touch panel is offered on the side of the camera and the screen allows the user to view the 3D video recorded without needing glasses.

The camera uses a new high speed imaging engine dubbed Falconbird by JVC. The lens is rated at F1.2 for brighter video and the CMOS sensors are back illuminated. Other features include time-lapse 3D recording, 3D still shots, and the video is stored to 64GB of internal memory and can be expanded with SD cards. The camera will sell for $1999.95 in March.

JVC has unveiled a new line of AV receivers that handle multimedia for vehicles at CES. The new line has four cool products that allow drivers to enjoy all sorts of content in the vehicle on the road. JVC also partnered with MotionX-GPS Drive to integrate its tech into the high-end double-DIN receivers. The tech lets the iPhone be integrated for use as a navigation device with control over GPS and song playback.

The line includes the KW-AVX840 with a 7-inch motorized LCD that is touch capable. It has Bluetooth inside, a USB port for iPod and iPhone control, playback directly from iPod, and is ready for satellite radio. It also has a 7-band EQ and 50W x 4 channel. The stereo will ship in March for $649.95. The KW-ADV794 has a detachable 6.1-inch screen. It has Bluetooth, a rear USB port, HD and satellite radio compatibility, 5V pre-outs, and can play MP3 and other digital file formats. It has 50X x 4 channels and will ship in February for $579.95. A lesser version called the AVX-740 with a shorter 1-year warranty and three 4V outputs is $549.95.

The starter receiver in the line is the KW-AVX640. This receiver is Bluetooth ready and when fitted with the optional Bluetooth radio it can support voice dialing and other mobile phone features. The unit will ship in February for $499.99. A single-din AVX77 unit is also available with a thin and long screen taking up the entire front of the system. It is available right now for $649.95 with Bluetooth, iPod/iPhone control and a lot more.

At the Consumer Electronics Show, it’s hard to be the “one of” crowd. For a company, having the ability to say that, especially with a 3D projector at a show where 3D is a prevalent attraction, is a strong bullet point on their press release. For JVC, they can mark off being the only company to be showing off a THX-certified 3D projector at this year’s show, and they’re happy to be showing it off for anyone wanting to take a peek.

Both projectors, the Procision Series DLA-X7 and DLA-X9, are able to project both 2D and 3D images, whether the source is a 3D Blu-ray movie or from another source. The content is handled by a pair of HDMI ports, and the projector is capable of supporting side-by-side broadcasting. It’s also able to support frame packing for Blu-ray discs, as well as above-below 3D transmissions. To enjoy the 3D entertainment, though, you’ll have to have yourself some Active Shutter 3D glasses, which work in tandem with the 3D Signal Emitter to sync the image.

The DLA-X7 has a native contrast ratio of 70,000:1, but will pull on your wallet’s heart strings with a price tag of $7,995. However, if you want to pay some more cash for a better contrast ratio, be ready to drop $11,995 for the DLA-X9, which has a native contrast ratio of 100,000:1.

Press Release

WAYNE, NJ, January 3, 2011 – Visitors to the upcoming 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) looking for a THX® 3D Certified projector demonstration have but one choice – JVC. The company (booth #8226) is demonstrating the world’s first home theater projectors to gain THX 3D Display Certification, and as of CES, the only projectors certified under the program.
CES, the consumer electronics industry’s annual trade show, takes place in Las Vegas from January 6 – 9, and JVC is demonstrating both of its new THX 3D Certified projectors – the Procision Series DLA-X9 and DLA-X7.

During the THX 3D certification process, more than 400 laboratory tests are conducted, evaluating color accuracy, cross-talk, viewing angles and video processing to ensure the high quality 3D and 2D display performance that home theater enthusiasts demand. The JVC projectors have simple, one button solutions for optimized playback of 3D and 2D movies – THX Cinema Mode to ensure that color reproduction, luminance, blacks, gamma and video processing matches what the filmmaker intended, and THX 3D Cinema Mode, which extends this same level of accuracy for 3D broadcasts and Blu-ray Discs. THX 3D Cinema Mode is designed to deliver highly accurate color in 3D, while minimizing sources of cross-talk and flicker. For further fine-tuning, all THX Modes on JVC projectors can be accessed by THX Professional Calibrators.
For 3D content, each projector includes two HDMI 1.4a ports and supports side-by-side (broadcast), frame packing (Blu-ray Disc), and above-below 3D transmissions. An external 3D Signal Emitter (PK-EM1) syncs the projected image with JVC’s Active Shutter 3D Glasses (PK-AG1). The external 3D signal emitter ensures solid signal transmission to the 3D glasses for a superior 3D experience, no matter what type of screen is used or how the home theater has been configured.
The new flagship Procision projector, the DLA-X9, is built using hand-selected, hand-tested components and provides a 100,000:1 native contrast ratio. For 3D display, it comes with two pairs of 3D glasses along with a PK-EM1 3D Signal Emitter. Both projectors also have a three-year warranty. The DLA-X7 offers 70,000:1 native contrast ratio, comes with a two-year warranty and is compatible with JVC’s PK-AG1 Active Shutter 3D Glasses and the PK-EM1 3D Signal Emitter (sold separately) for 3D presentations.
Both projectors feature three 0.7” 1920 x 1080 D-ILA devices and are designed around JVC’s third generation D-ILA High Dynamic Range optical engine that is optimized to provide exceptional native contrast ratios without a dynamic iris to artificially enhance contrast specifications.
The new JVC D-ILA projectors are available now at the following prices:
DLA-RS60/DLA-X9 $11,995
DLA-RS50/DLA-X7 $7,995
JVC’s PK-AG1 3D glasses ($179) and PK-EM1 3D Signal Emitter ($79) will also be available in late November.
Besides the four THX Certified models, JVC offers a third 3D-enabled Procision projector, the DLA-X3, available now at $4,495. It offers 50,000:1 native contrast ratio, comes with a two-year warranty and is compatible with JVC’s PK-AG1 Active Shutter 3D Glasses and PK-EM1 3D Signal Emitter (sold separately).

JVC’s latest audio system has been unveiled, and the UX-J51 follows in the footsteps of just about every other micro HiFi by slapping an iPod dock on top. The compact stereo is spattered with touch-sensitive keys and blue LED backlighting, and if you’re bored of your iPod (or iPhone) music then you can always dust off a CD or – heaven forbid – turn on the FM/AM radio.

Alternatively there’s a USB 2.0 port for hooking up a non-Apple PMP, while other connectivity includes digital optical input and outputs, analog input and outputs, an aux input and a subwoofer preout. A front-panel headphone socket and a remote control wrap up the key specs.

Power is 40W x 2 and JVC has used two separate amps, one for each channel, which the company reckons will make all the difference. Still, if you’re listening to shoddy MP3s in the first place, it probably won’t matter too much. Out next month for $399.95.

Press Release:

JVC Announces High-Performance Micro Audio System

WAYNE, NJ, September 22, 2010 – JVC today expanded its Procision series of premium-level products with the introduction of a new high-performance micro audio system. The new JVC UX-J51 is a three-piece system that combines class-leading performance with clean, elegant design.

The new JVC UX-J51 is a CD micro component system with a built-in dock for iPod, USB (2.0) input and an FM/AM tuner. It’s comprised of a single main unit and a pair of two-way, bass reflex speakers. Most functions are controlled using flush, top-mounted touch keys illuminated in blue, with the exception of volume, which is handled by a large, silver knob on the main unit’s front panel. A full function remote control is also included.
A key performance feature is the system’s separate left and right channel amplifiers, each rated at 40 watts. The two-way speakers feature a one-inch (2.5cm) soft-dome tweeter and a 4.3-inch (11cm) cone woofer. The audio performance is optimized using CONEQTM technology that matches amplifier and speaker performance to ensure equalized power levels across all frequencies, resulting in a clean, natural sound throughout the listening room.
For system expansion, the UX-J51 includes a digital optical input and output, analog input and output, aux input, and a subwoofer preout. There’s also a headphone jack, FM and AM antenna jacks and banana speaker jacks. The system also features a clock/timer.
The JVC UX-J51 will be available in October for $399.95.

There are tons of iPod docks on the market today and many of them are the same thing. JVC has unveiled a cool new dock that is different from most of what is on the market today. One of the unique features of the EX-S1 is that the speakers use wooden cones.

The compact system has a pair of speakers that are separate from the main unit, which also has a CD player inside. On the front of the dock is a USB port for playing tracks from non-dockable iPods and other devices.

JVC offers the dock in several colors including black, white with wood grain top, pink, and solid white. The dock also has an integrated FM tuner and has video output for sending video to your TV. Pricing is unknown, but the unit will ship in Japan in October.

Point and shoot camcorders are a range under threat these days, as cellphones up their video capture game. JVC’s latest PICSIO models show one approach to keep hold of the niche: throw in Full HD capture and, in the case of the GC-WP10, waterproof the casing. JVC sent over the PICSIO GC-WP10 along with its non-waterproof sibling the GC-FM2; check out the SlashGear review after the cut.

Both models slip in under the $200 mark, with the WP10 getting a $199.95 MRSP and the FM2 just $179.99. Each has a 3-inch 230k pixel touchscreen, records to SD card (compatible with SDHC/SDXC too) and has both a mini HDMI port and an analog AV output; the FM2 also gets a pop-out USB 2.0 plug. The 5.13-megapixel sensor can grab still images up to 2592 x 1944 or up to 1920 x 1080 30fps Full HD video.

So far, so regular, but the WP10 is clad in suitably sporty rubber and has port flaps ensuring it’s waterproof to up to 10 feet. While you may not generally be shooting underwater, it does mean there’s nothing to worry about if it’s raining or snowing. It does add bulk, though: the regular FM2 measures in at a smooth, slim 53 x 102 x 22 mm, while the WP10 is a chunkier 60 x 101 x 25 mm. It may not sound too much, but the slight difference – together with the grippy rubber – can make it tricky to quickly pull the waterproof version out of your pocket and grab an impromptu shot.

Usability is fair, with the large touchscreen offering easy access to the relatively sparse functionality. The WP10 throws in an audio recording icon as it will work as a dictaphone. On the flip-side, it means you need to look at the display in order to use it (unlike physical buttons) and outdoors you’ll need to shade the screen in order to make out either the preview or the controls.

Image quality is the biggest factor, of course, and unfortunately neither JVC wows with either video or still performance. Stills show more than an average amount of noise, though colors are reasonable, while video is jerky and prone to over-exposure. The 4x digital zoom, as always, is best avoided since it increases pixelation unpleasantly.

The problem is, most modern smartphones – certainly those capable of 720p HD – are able to match the stills and footage produced by the PICSIO pair. That means a fair amount of people won’t see a step up by carrying a separate device. True, the waterproofing on the WP10 is a neat addition that’s rare on smartphones (unless you opt for a third-party case) but we’re still not sure the end result is worth the bulk.

Press Release:

TWO NEW JVC PICSIO POCKET CAMERAS OFFER EASY VIDEO AND PHOTO SHARING

Features include 3-inch touch screen, plug & share convenience, Full HD recording, improved low-light performance and waterproof versatility

WAYNE, NJ, August 24, 2010 －Two JVC pocket cameras announced today bring a new level of fun and ease-of-use to making and sharing videos and photos. The new PICSIO pocket cameras, the GC-WP10 and GC-FM2, both feature Full HD video, excellent low-light performance, a three-inch touch screen for easy operation and playback viewing, and compatibility with Eye-Fi cards for Wi-Fi connectivity. And for the ultimate in versatility, the PICSIO GC-WP10 is waterproof.

To produce stunning photos, PICSIO’s CMOS image sensor captures stills at up to five-megapixel native resolution without interpolation. It also records up to 1920 x 1080p/30 fps Full HD video with image stabilization for enjoyment on an HDTV via the camera’s HDMI output. Users can select from four different recording resolutions: Full HD 1080 (1920 x 1080/30p), HD 720 (1280 x 720/60p), iFrame (960 x 540/30p) and Quarter High Definition (960 x 540/30p). The new PICSIO cameras also offer time-lapse recording, which reduces hours-long segments to mere seconds.

Perhaps the most prominent feature on the PICSIO cameras is the three-inch touch screen with on-screen graphics for shooting and playback controls, including the 4x digital zoom. What’s more, the touch screen functions are easily operated even when wearing gloves for all-season fun. The large screen also enhances playback, with a large, clear image that makes it easy for all to enjoy what was recorded.

For easy editing and uploading, LoiLoScope EX for Windows® software is factory installed. This new software offers quick, intuitive editing and direct uploading to YouTube™ and Facebook, exporting to iTunes® and more. It can launch immediately when the camera is connected to virtually any PC. The uploading process, including editing, entails just a few easy steps. A full array of special effects is available for creative editing, supported by simplified icon-based access and intuitive drag-and-drop operation. Windows 7 Multi-Touch is supported, so operation via any compatible PC touch screen is possible. File output for DVD creation is also available.

Both PICSIO pocket cameras work with iMovie on the Mac. The two cameras also offer the option to record video in the iFrame format, a computer-friendly video format designed to dramatically simplify the process of editing and sharing video. iFrame works with compatible Mac and PC applications.

The new PICSIO cameras come with an SD/SDHC/SDXC card slot for versatile storage. The slot is optimized for Eye-Fi cards, so files can be quickly uploaded and shared using a wireless network.

The GC-FM2’s special conveniences include a slide-out USB connector, so no connecting cable is needed. As a convenience, a USB cable is provided and an AC adaptor is available optionally. Both models are charged through their USB connection so the cameras are ready to shoot more after transferring files.

The PICSIO GC-WP10 is waterproof to a depth of 10 feet/3 meters (IPX8 certified) for worry-free recording underwater, on the slopes or in the rain. The GC-WP10 also comes with a MP3 audio recorder to capture everything from lectures to jam sessions in stereo.

The JVC PICSIO GC-FM2 will be available in early September for $179.95. The JVC PICSIO GC-WP10 will be available in late September for $199.95.

Carbon fiber is well known for showing up in racing cars and sports boats, but headphones? According to JVC, the strong, lightweight material is what makes their HA-S650 headphones particularly special, delivering – so they promise – audio quality that punches above their weight and, more importantly perhaps, price bracket. Are they ear salvation or will we prefer the sound of silence; check out the full SlashGear review after the cut.

JVC use carbon fiber for the HA-S650′s housing and diaphragm, which they reckon adds up to lighter headphones, reduced distortion and improved durability. There’s no visible weave, however, and that leaves the glossy black material looking a little too much like cheap plastic for our liking. Build quality feels reasonable, and the stainless steel headband flexes broadly without you getting the sense that it’s about to snap, but in the hand the HA-S650′s lack the reassurance that the packaging would have us believe in.

As for the HA-S650′s audio performance, they’re surprisingly neutral with little in the way of emphasis on either the high- or low-end frequencies. Whether that’s a good thing will depend on how much you like the standard sound from your audio source, and how flexible that source’s own EQ settings are. Without a little attention we found bass-heavy music to lack a little punch at the low-end, though that could be tweaked using an equaliser, but there’s a lightness to the high-end which comes to the fore with sparser, vocal music.

With a little time investment, then, the HA-S650′s can really shine, and while the relatively light weight may not add up to the best hand-feel, it does mean you can wear the headphones for extended periods without discomfort. The ability to rotate the earpieces 90-degrees and make the JVC’s flatter for transporting is neat, but we’d have preferred a little more flexibility in tilting the cups to avoid pressure on the tops of our ears. Still, they’re nonetheless some of the more comfortable headphones we’ve tried, primarily because of their 3.63oz (103g) weight. Worth noting is the 3.94ft (1.2m) fixed cord, which is a little on the short side if you want to use them with a regular stereo or PC rather than a PMP or laptop.

If you primarily listen to bass-heavy music then there are probably better headphones out there, but if your tastes are broader then the JVC HA-S650′s would make a good choice. The absence of any kind of carrying case or pouch seems unduly mean of JVC, and while the company may boast about carbon fiber’s durability we’re not entirely confident enough to drop the headphones into our rucksack unprotected. Still, with a street price of around $40 (MRSP $69.95) you’re getting plenty of audio quality for your money.

Press Release:

FLAGSHIP AMONG JVC HD EVERIO CAMERAS NOW AVAILABLE

New GZ-HM1 Full HD camera boasts gains in low light performance, image stabilization and still image quality.

WAYNE, NJ, April 6, 2010 – A new top-end JVC HD Everio video camera is now available, JVC announced today. The new GZ-HM1 HD Everio offers a full slate of technologies to optimize picture quality and an array of manual controls for creative flexibility. The GZ-HM1 offers performance improvements in three key areas — low light performance, camera-shake compensation and digital still quality. As a result, the GZ-HM1, which offers 64GB of internal storage and an SD/SDHC card slot, is the ideal camera for video enthusiasts and semi-professionals.

In the area of low light performance, the GZ-HM1 provides superior results thanks to a new CMOS sensor that boosts sensitivity to four Lux (compared to nine Lux for the previous GZ-HM400) for brilliant recording of 1920 x 1080 Full HD video, with 1080/60p output through the HDMI connection. In camera shake compensation, JVC made improvements in wide angle performance, an area not typically addressed. While most stabilization efforts focus on effectiveness in high zoom ratios, camera shake also occurs at wide angle settings, especially when the camera user is moving along with the subject. In the new GZ-HM1, JVC uses prism technology to provide effective results at the wide angle end of the zoom range. And for better still image quality, the GZ-HM1 delivers real 10 megapixel stills for detailed images.

The GZ-HM1′s 1/2.3-inch 10.62 megapixel back-illuminated CMOS sensor dramatically increases sensitivity, enabling recording of high quality images even in low-light locations. Back-illumination technology moves the circuitry within the CMOS chip to a layer behind the photo diodes, avoiding loss of incoming light that occurs with conventional CMOS sensors. This efficient gathering of light increases the ability to obtain visual information, which translates into higher picture quality being available at the camera even in low light situations. The KONICA MINOLTA HD LENS is currently one of the world’s smallest and slimmest HD lenses, and offers 10x optical zoom.

A new optical image stabilization system with Advanced Image Stabilizer provides effective camera-shake compensation in a variety of situations. The camera’s optical image stabilization system uses two prisms within the lens housing to optically compensate for vertical and lateral camera shake. Together they are able to effectively reduce the effects of shake in any direction. This JVC system is enhanced by the company’s Advanced Image Stabilizer that improves compensation, especially in the wide angle range, providing a stable image even if the user is walking while shooting.

The camera’s 10.62 megapixel CMOS sensor allows the GZ-HM1 to shoot real 10 megapixel stills with ISO6400 sensitivity for pristine digital stills with high resolution, even if the lighting is less than ideal. The densely packed pixels of the CMOS sensor translate into smooth and realistic images without any sense of pixilation or gaps between pixels, for a look similar to film photography. ISO6400 high sensitivity is assurance that even in dark situations the image will look sharp and detailed. For further assistance in shooting in low light, the GZ-HM1 includes an automatic flash.

To meet the needs of the more demanding video enthusiast, the GZ-HM1 offers an array of manual controls. These include a manual adjustment dial that, among other functions, allows easy and precise manual focus. Other manual controls include selection of shutter or aperture priority shooting, and bracket shooting. In addition, there’s a user-programmable button for storing frequently used settings.

To ensure the best possible audio recording, there’s a microphone input, audio level control and headphone output. There’s also a top-mounted accessory shoe.

The GZ-HM1 also offers creative shooting functions, including time-lapse recording, available in all 2010 Everio cameras, to easily record in intervals ranging from one to 80 seconds. When played back, hours-long segments are reduced to mere seconds. Also available is high-speed recording at up to 600 frames per second, allowing ultra-slow motion playback for observation and analysis, such as a golf swing.

Digital files created with this new Everio camera can be easily shared in a variety of popular formats with the enhanced Everio MediaBrowser software for Windows®, which now provides automatic conversion of HD videos for immediate sharing on YouTube™ at HD or SD resolution. Files also can be directly exported to iTunes® and synced with an iPod® or iPhone®, or burned to DVD, all with just a few mouse clicks using the same Everio MediaBrowser application.

The JVC GZ-HM1 will be available in March for $1,199.95.

Alright, so most of us would be served best by a humble Xacti rather than JVC’s stonking new GY-HM790 ProHD camcorder, but you’ll have to forgive us for drooling just a little. The latest flagship in the company’s performance range, the GY-HM790 squeezes in three 1/3-inch CCDs for up to 35Mbps 1920 x 1080 HD video recording, storing footage on twin SDHC Class 6/10 memory card slots.

There’s a 4.3-inch LCD preview display, two XLR audio inputs and the ability to record in native Apple Final Cut .mov format for easier editing. Still, none of this comes cheap: expect to pay $11,995 for the JVC GY-HM790 ProHD (complete with a Canon 14x HD ENG lens) when it arrives this Summer, or more again for the upcoming low-light version.

Press Release:

JVC TO INTRODUCE GY-HM790 PROHD CAMCORDER AT NAB 2010

WAYNE, NJ, April 5, 2010 – JVC Professional Products, a division of JVC U.S.A., will introduce the new flagship of its ProHD camcorder line, the GY-HM790, at the 2010 NAB Show in Las Vegas, Nev., April 12-15 (Booth C4314). With an innovative modular design and a full complement of accessories, the new camera supports multicore or fiber-based production. Plus, as a shoulder-mount camcorder, it delivers outstanding ENG and sports production performance with more features than ever.

The GY-HM790 features three 1/3-inch CCDs, which allow a lighter, more compact form factor for better maneuverability in the field and more flexibility with robotic camera control systems in the studio. It produces 1920×1080 images and can record in 1080i, 720p, and even SD (480i) for operations that have not yet made the move to HD. The camera records at 35 Mbps (HQ mode/variable bit rate) or 19 Mbps/25 Mbps (SP mode/constant bit rate). The camera ships with a Canon 14x zoom lens or without lens, as accommodates a variety of lenses with its 1/3-inch bayonet lens mount.
Adopting the successful tapeless workflow introduced in the GY-HM700 camcorder, the GY-HM790 features a dual card slot design that records to low-cost, non-proprietary SDHC Class 6 or 10 solid-state media cards. JVC’s native file recording technology allows recording in ready-to-edit file formats for Apple Final Cut Pro (.mov) and other major NLE systems (.mp4) that are compatible with Sony XDCAM EX™ workflow.
An optional ASI output module provides a direct feed from the camera to a satellite uplink or microwave transmitter via BNC – no “black box” interfaces required – for live HD video from the field. Other ENG features on the GY-HM790 include an analog SD pool feed input, 4.3-inch LCD screen, and a high-resolution, 1.2 megapixel LCOS viewfinder. Two XLR inputs with phantom power offer uncompressed LPCM audio recording with manual level controls.
“The excellent image quality of the GY-HM790, coupled with its versatility for both studio and ENG use, makes it an attractive camcorder for broadcasters in any DMA,” said Craig Yanagi, manager of marketing and brand strategy. “Plus, our optional ASI module makes it easier than ever to produce true HD reports from the field. The GY-HM790 does more than shoot great pictures, it literally changes the way live news reports can be produced.”
With its HD/SD-SDI port, the GY-HM790 provides an uncompressed 4:2:2 full HD signal for live monitoring, and a FireWire port provides output of SD signals or the HDV transport stream, so footage can be backed up economically with an HDD recorder. An optional SxS media recorder module attaches directly to the camcorder and allows simultaneous recording to SDHC cards and SxS media.
The new GY-HM790 also builds on the studio capabilities of JVC’s popular GY-HD250 camera with its improved picture quality and cleaner studio integration. Its redesigned studio adapter sled incorporates a modular approach to multicore or fiber connectivity for a cleaner interface. Modules connect directly to the camera without external cabling, so they can be used either with the studio sled or handheld. Plus, JVC’s modular approach allows the creation of additional modules to accommodate future technologies.
Other new features for studio or multi-camera use include built-in time code in/out and genlock. JVC also offers a full complement of accessories, including a remote camera control unit, remote shader panel, 8.4-inch studio viewfinder, and multi-input special effects generators.
The GY-HM790 will be available this summer with an MSRP starting at $11,995, including the Canon 14x HD ENG lens.
A specially configured low light version of the camera, the GY-HM790LL, has JVC’s patented LoLux function that provides ENG users with image capture in an extremely low light environment. The LoLux version will be available to broadcast direct customers beginning in the Fall of 2010.

JVC have stuffed their latest camcorder with Bluetooth, but while you might automatically assume the short-range wireless functionality was to be used for media transfers, you’d be wrong. In actual fact, the JVC Everio GZ-HM550 uses its Bluetooth for remote control, GPS geotagging and even for sound monitoring using a hands-free headset.

If you’ve ever wanted to remotely control your camcorder from your smartphone, JVC have your back. An include app – no word on what platforms are supported – allows users to control recording, zoom and playback; alternatively you can pair up a Bluetooth GPS puck and use it to geotag movies and images. Footage will automatically sync with Google Earth once you transfer it back over to your computer. Finally, you can pair up a Bluetooth headset, allowing you to either monitor audio being recorded through the GZ-HM550′s microphone, or to overlay a director’s track yourself.

As for the photography specs, the GZ-HM550 has a 10.6-megapixel CMOS which can record in Full HD and grab 9-megapixel stills, saving files to its 32GB of internal storage or to an SD/SDHC card. There’s a 16x Konica Minolta zoom, face detection and time-lapse recording, and you can set the camcorder to automatically trigger when movement is detected.

All of that comes at a price, however; the JVC Everio GZ-HM550 is on sale now, with an MRSP of $799.95.

Press Release:

BLUETOOTH-ENABLED JVC HD EVERIO CAMERA NOW AVAILABLE

New GZ-HM550 features a 10.6 megapixel CMOS sensor; shoots 9 megapixel stills.

WAYNE, NJ, March 19, 2010 – JVC today announced the availability of a new high definition Everio camera with built-in Bluetooth® wireless technology, allowing the camera to work with a variety of other wireless devices. In addition, the new Everio GZ-HM550 features a 10.6 megapixel CMOS sensor for recording high quality Full HD video and nine megapixel digital stills to its internal 32GB flash memory. An SD/SDHC card slot provides the camera with additional storage.

Among the capabilities the camera’s Bluetooth technology offers is control of the camera using a smartphone, geo-tagging of videos and stills and use with a compatible Bluetooth headset.

With the installation of a supplied application, a Bluetooth-equipped smartphone can be used to control the camera remotely, allowing record, zoom and play operations. Use the camera with a GPS device to record location data of where movie and still files were recorded. The data synchronizes with Google Earth™ when viewing the file on a PC using the bundled Everio MediaBrowser software. The camera can also be used with a Bluetooth-equipped headset to monitor the recorded sound or for voice recording.

Aside from offering built-in Bluetooth wireless technology, the GZ-HM550 provides all the quality and convenience features to appeal to consumers who are looking for a high-performance camera in a compact package. Its 10.62 megapixel Back-illuminated CMOS sensor enables shooting of 1920 x 1080 Full HD videos and real nine megapixel digital stills. The KONICA MINOLTA HD LENS is currently one of the world’s smallest and slimmest HD lenses, and offers 16x dynamic zoom without any degradation of picture quality. All this is further supported by new technologies that ramp-up basic image quality, including Super LoLux and Advanced Image Stabilizer. Super LoLux improves low-light sensitivity to capture clear images with precise colors even in low-light environments. The GZ-HM500 is also equipped with both an LED light and a flash for shooting in dark situations. Advanced Image Stabilizer ensures steady images even while walking, and is especially effective when shooting bright scenes from full wide to 5x zoom.

Recorded content is stored on the internal 32GB flash memory, with an SD/SDHC card slot to provide additional storage. And like many other models in the new Everio lineup, the GZ-HM550 offers new advanced shooting functions like time lapse recording and Auto Recording. Time-lapse recording makes it easy to create a sophisticated effect — simply set the camera to record in intervals ranging from one to 80 seconds. When played back, hours-long segments will be reduced to mere seconds. With Auto Record, recording automatically begins when a person enters the picture — a convenient solution for home surveillance, recording wildlife, and more. Also Motor Drive Shooting (nine megapixel stills up to 15fps) and Ultra-Slow Motion Playback by high speed recording (up to 600fps) are available.

Digital files created can be easily shared in a variety of popular formats with the enhanced Everio MediaBrowser software for Windows®, which now provides automatic conversion of HD videos for immediate sharing on YouTube™ at HD or SD resolution. Files also can be directly exported to iTunes® and synced with an iPod® or iPhone®, or burned to DVD, all with just a few mouse clicks using the same Everio MediaBrowser application.

To make it easier for the user to find and play any desired scene, the GZ-HM550 offers Face Flow Thumbnail, a feature that displays thumbnails from a particular section of a video by automatically selecting and zooming into human faces. And to make shooting and carrying easier, the camera has a redesigned grip belt that works in two ways — as a conventional handle-style grip when both ends are snapped in place or as a strap when one end of the belt is released.

The JVC GZ-HM550 Bluetooth enabled camera is available now for $799.95.

Having sat down with JVC’s 4K2K D-ILA projectors before now, we know the company’s range is certainly capable of some impressive optics. Still, you’ll need a particularly deep wallet if you want their latest model: the JVC DLA-SH7NLG packs not one but three 1.27-inch 4K2K D-ILA display devices and dual ultra-high-pressure mercury lamps for a total of 5,000 ANSI lumens of brightness. That’s good enough for 10-megapixel (4,096 x 2,400) images, or five times Full HD resolution.

A total of four DVI dual-link inputs can be used concurrently, driving four WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200) resolution pictures at any one time. You can also network one of more of the units and remotely control them from a PC app. The native contrast ratio is 10,000:1, while JVC also offer three different lenses including short-focus and telescopic, depending on the application.

Those applications are expected to step more than a little outside of the realm of your average film buff, however; JVC reckon the DLA-SH7NLG will find buyers among planetariums, museums and medical facilities. Hopefully they’ll be able to stomach the roughly $150,000 MRSP, too. Meanwhile, we’re waiting around for the Full HD 3D unibody projector JVC promised us sometime this year.

Press Release:

JVC Adds New 4K Projector to D-ILA Lineup

WAYNE, NJ, March 17, 2010 – JVC Professional Products, division of JVC U.S.A., today announced the new, 10 MegaPixel DLA-SH7NLG, a 4K D-ILA projector incorporating three 1.27-inch 4K2K D-ILA display devices for high-quality imaging and dual ultra-high-pressure mercury lamps for 5,000 ANSI lumens of brightness. Combining superb definition and resolution with low-cost maintenance, the 4K2K D-ILA projector is available now and is ideal for planetariums, museums, simulators, and medical institutions, as well as high-spec design and monitoring facilities.

The new model joins the DLA-SH4K, which debuted in January 2008 as a 4K D-ILA projector and quickly drew high praise. Like its predecessor, the DLA-SH7NLG achieves ultra-high resolution of approximately 10 megapixels (4,096 x 2,400), which is five times the resolution of full HD, plus the projector has a stunning 10,000:1 native contrast ratio.

Notable features of the new DLA-SH7NLG include:

1. With approximately 10 megapixels of resolution, JVC’s 4K2K D-ILA devices can simultaneously display two or four screens in WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200) resolution. Multi-screen projection is facilitated by four DVI (Dual-Link) input terminals supporting an array of PC input formats. The DLA-SH7NLG also offers a low latency mode for simulation environments.

2. True black quality with stunning 10,000:1 native contrast thanks to a wire-grid optical engine.

3. Dual 330W ultra-high-pressure mercury lamps, producing 5,000 lumens of brightness. In single lamp mode, the DLA-SH7NLG can automatically choose the lamp with less cumulative operating time for maintenance efficiency. This, plus the addition of a low-power mode, enable lamp life of approximately 3,000 hours, which is about double that of conventional projectors. Such features allow the DLA-SH7NLG to offer low running costs even under heavy professional use.

4. Elaborate design offers operational flexibility, including stacking two projectors to display 3D images or installation on a +/- 90-degree tilt. The DLA-SH7NLG only weighs about 110 pounds, excluding lens.

5. Three different lenses, including short-focus and telescopic models, are available for various projection environments.

The DLA-SH7NLG operates on normal AC 100-220V power and consumes less than 1.1 kW. Convergence can be adjusted to 1/10 pixel accuracy via GUI control, and three gamma tables are included. Six test patterns, including a crosshatch and color bars, enable image adjustment without external signal sources.

Projection configuration data is easily stored and uploaded from a USB memory device. The Ethernet-compatible DLA-SH7NLG can be configured via a PC Web browser, and multiple projectors are networkable for operation via a single PC. Plus, for improved maintenance, e-mails can be generated automatically to send lamp replacement reminders and error status notifications.

The DLA-SH7NLG has an MSRP of under $150,000 plus lens and is available immediately. For further product information, visit JVC’s Web site at http://pro.jvc.com/visualization or call Tom Stites at (770)844-4221.

Press Release:

JVC ADDS A NEW HIGH DEFINITION MEMORY CAMERA TO EVERIO LINE

New GZ-HM340 features 16GB of internal memory.

WAYNE, NJ, February 2, 2010 – JVC has added a new high definition camera to its recently-announced 2010 Everio line, giving the series three HD models priced under $500. The new Everio GZ-HM340 features 16GB of internal flash memory plus an SD/SDHC card slot.

The GZ-HM340 includes all of the new features and improvements found throughout the 2010 Everio line, including advancements in low light capabilities and image stabilization, while convenience is enhanced with a new auto recording feature and time lapse recording.

For a steadier picture, JVC this year introduced Advanced Image Stabilizer (A.I.S) that ensures steady images even while walking, and is especially effective when shooting bright scenes from full wide to 5x zoom. Available on all models, Advanced Image Stabilizer uses a wide-angle image sampling area that is four times larger than that of conventional systems. A.I.S delivers powerful compensation for camera shake.

Time-Lapse recording is a sophisticated but easy-to-use feature for time-lapse shooting in one- to 80-second intervals, enabling hours-long segments to be reduced to seconds, such as the continuous recording of changing sky patterns spanning an entire day.

Auto record, a new feature, automatically initiates recording when a person or other moving subject enters the picture and the luminance changes, a great convenience for home surveillance, monitoring a baby, recording wildlife, taking group shots (instead of using a self-timer) and more.

Digital files created with the new Everio cameras can be easily shared in a variety of popular formats with the enhanced Everio MediaBrowser software for Windows®, which now provides automatic conversion of HD and SD videos for immediate sharing on YouTube™, including both down-conversion and up-conversion. Files can also be directly exported to iTunes® and synced with an iPod® or iPhone®, or burned to DVD, all with just a few mouse clicks using the Everio MediaBrowser application.

Like all 2010 HD Everio cameras, the new GZ-HM340 features a KONICA MINOLTA HD LENS, currently one of the world’s smallest and slimmest HD lenses. In the GZ-HM340 it offers a 20x optical zoom.

Everio high-definition models automatically switch between two internal media for continuous, uninterrupted recordings. Users can shoot seamless, drop-out-free recordings using dual SD cards or flash memory. HD-model enhancements also include Face Flow Thumbnail, which displays thumbnails from a particular section of a video by automatically selecting and zooming into human faces.

The 2010 Everio series features an all new, slim design that’s fashionable, easy to carry and comfortable to hold. Portability has been further enhanced with a redesigned grip belt that now works in two handy ways, as a conventional handle-style grip when both ends are snapped in place or as a strap when one end of the belt is released.

The new Everio GZ-HM340 is available later this month for $499.95.

Features:
16GB Internal Flash Memory and SD/SDHC card slot
1/5.8″ 1.37 Megapixel CMOS Sensor
20x Optical Zoom (KONICA MINOLTA HD LENS

After exclusively telling us yesterday that a Full HD 3D unibody consumer projector is “coming next” in their line-up, JVC asked if we wanted to try out the 3D experience they currently have on offer at CES 2010. Screenings are being shown in a specially-constructed dark theater room which seats around 40-50 people, and the hardware on offer included a JVC D-ILA HD990, a single JVC DLA-RS4000 4K as well as a pair of RS4000 4k for the 3D footage. Check out our impressions after the cut.

JVC kicked off with a clip from the film Couples Retreat projected onto a 10-foot wide 16:9 aspect 1.3 gain screen, and frankly the image is stunning, completely blowing away the RS2 we use to benchmark projectors. Shifting to a 16-foot 16:9 screen and the single DLA-RS4000 4k, JVC showed various clips of Japan filmed with a 4k video camera. Here, detail and color particularly shone, with an instant boost in brightness and image quality when they switched from the HD990 to the RS4000.

Last up was the 3D test, which required dual 4k projectors and a special 3D-enabled projection screen. Obviously we had to wear anaglyph paper glasses to see the 3D effect, and while there was no noticeable loss of image quality we did at times see a hint of red/cyan double image on 3D objects. At times there was a little eye-strain and discomfort, too, which we hadn’t noticed when watching the home-grade 3D HDTVs JVC are showing on the CES showfloor. Frankly, given the price of setting up two RS4000 4k projectors, until JVC’s unibody version debuts sometime later in 2010 we’d plump for one of the company’s 3D HDTVs if 3D is a must-have.

There’s plenty of 3D action to be had at CES 2010 already, but if you can wait a little longer JVC have something new up their sleeve. While at the JVC stand SlashGear A/V expert Daniel Lim managed to tease out confirmation that the company has a consumer range Full HD unibody 3D projector – similar to the LG CF3D – “coming next”.

That’s particularly interesting, because so far JVC’s dual-4k2k projector setup for 3D use has been well outside of the budget for a typical home-theater enthusiast. JVC couldn’t – or wouldn’t – give us any more details, but with the LG projector coming in at $10k when it drops May 2010 we’re expecting JVC will look to match that sort of price tag and specification.

The end result is one of the more distinctive iPod speaker docks we’ve seen in recent months, and JVC reckon it’ll sound distinctive too. They’ve turned to Dolby Virtual Surround audio processing technology, and while we’re inherently suspicious of anything that promises to make pseudo-3D out of a stereo source, we won’t argue with eking the best out of the mere 5W amplification.

Meanwhile there are both analog and digital audio inputs, and a remote control too. The JVC SX-SR3 will go on sale this month, priced at $149.95.

New JVC XS-SR3 “personal theater” holds iPod’s vertically or horizontally.

WAYNE, NJ, December 16, 2009 – A new JVC iPod® speaker system features a unique wraparound design, Dolby Virtual Surround, and a dock that like most docks holds an iPod vertically for music listening, but also can cradle it horizontally – ideal for widescreen viewing of video.

The new JVC XS-SR3 surround dock is a sleek, glossy black speaker tube with a curved design that allows the iPod to nestle between the speakers. The iPod holder rotates for viewing video in widescreen mode and comes with four clips to hold selected iPod models. The speakers’ powerful neodymium magnets ensure clean, crisp sound, while Dolby Virtual Surround creates the illusion of a wider sound field when viewing video content. Power output is five watts and the system features two audio inputs, one analog and one digital optical. A remote control is included.

In addition to its function as an iPod speaker dock, the XS-SR3 can also be used as computer speaker system.

The JVC XS-SR3 is available this month for $149.95.

JVC have outed a pair of new home cinema speaker systems targeted at users who’d prefer to fill their room with sound rather than cables. The JVC TH-BA3 and TH-BS7 are each soundbar systems: the TH-BA3 has a front soundbar, wireless rear stereo pair and a wireless subwoofer, while the TH-BS7 forgoes the rear speakers and instead goes on a serious diet to measure a mere 1.4-inches tall.

The TH-BA3 musters 280 watts and 5.1 channels overall, and integrates the amplifier and decoding system into the front speakerbar itself. Inputs include one analog and two optical digital, and it can decode Dolby Digital, DTS and Dolby ProLogic II.

As for the JVC TH-BS7, that offsets the amplifier/control unit into a separate, also wall-mountable plate, and connects wirelessly to a partner sub. It has four of JVC’s Direct Drive speakers, each with 20W, while the subwoofer packs 100W; there are one analog and three optical digital inputs, and it can handle Dolby Digital, DTS and Dolby Pro Logic II.

Both systems will go on sale this month, priced at $549.95 for the JVC TH-BA3 and $599.95 for the JVC TH-BS7.

The other is highlighted by a super-slim soundbar and a thin, wall-mountable amplifier.

JVC’s new dual wireless soundbar system is the TH-BA3, a 280-watt, 5.1-channel surround sound system that includes a sound bar, wireless subwoofer and wireless rear speaker kit comprised of wireless left and right surround speakers and a wireless receiver. The sound bar contains four speakers – one each for the left and right main channels and two for the center channel. Also built into the sound bar is the power amplifier, surround decoding, system controls and the transmitter for the wireless surround speakers. It offers one analog and two optical digital inputs and decodes Dolby Digital, DTS and Dolby ProLogic II surround signals.

The new JVC TH-BS7 system is designed to match the slimmest of flat panel HDTVs. It includes a sliver of a soundbar that measures just 1.4 inches (36mm) tall, an even slimmer wall-mountable amplifier/control unit and a wireless subwoofer.

The 180-watt, 4.1-channel TH-BS7 owes its slim design to JVC’s own Direct Drive speaker technology that uses a unique voice coil design and strong neodymium magnets to deliver outstanding sound quality and a broad soundfield from a super-slim speaker. The design allows the TH-BS7’s soundbar to boast a frequency range of 200 – 20,000 Hz that falls to just 200 – 10,000 Hz at 360 degrees off-axis. The soundbar features four JVC Direct Drive speakers – left and right main channels and left and right surround channels – each driven by 20 watts. The two surround channels are processed using JVC’s Front Surround technology to provide a surround sound effect without the need for rear speakers.

Complementing the slim design of the soundbar is the system’s amplifier/control unit. It measures just 1.2 inches deep and can be wall mounted. It decodes Dolby Digital, DTS and Dolby Pro Logic II, and offers one analog and three optical digital inputs. The system’s wireless subwoofer features a six-inch woofer powered by a 100-watt amplifier.

Video cameras are very popular, especially small ones that are designed for use on the go and uploading directly to popular video sharing sites. JVC has unveiled a new camcorder called the PICSIO GC-FM1 that is designed for users looking for a simple camera that can shoot still shots and HD resolution video. The camera can shoot 8MP still shots in addition to 1080p video.

JVC also equips the camera with image stabilization technology and 4x digital zoom. The camera is sized like a small cell phone and comes in black ice, blue steel, and purple passion colors. On the rear of the camera case is a geometric pattern that reminds me of those shiny hologram looking stickers from my youth.

The camera records MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 format video onto SD or SDHC cards. The frame rate for video recording at full 1080p resolution is 30 frames per second. Dropping down to 720p resolution allows for 60 frames per second. The camera can send video directly to iTunes or YouTube in .MOV format. The internal battery charges via USB and the camera has a 2-inch color LCD. The GC-FM1 is available now for $199.95.

CEDIA is still going strong, and with announcements like this one from JVC, we can see why. The DLA-RS4000 is a projector with some hefty specifications, which includes the heavy lifting necessary to move this thing around. Especially compared to JVC’s earlier offerings, this new projector is a beast. And believe us when we say, the price tag reflects that statement.

JVC’s DLA-RS4000 is a home cinema projector, and it’s capable of an astonishing 4K resolution, and reproducing a 10-megapixel image. That resolution is four times that of 1080p high definition, at 4,096×2,400 pixels. The DLA-RS4000 is both ISF and THX certified, and boasts 3,500 lumens of brightness from the Xenon lamp embedded within. The lamp itself can be controlled with up to 8 levels of lamp control, making sure that the brightness is kept at an optimal level.

On top of that, the projector deliver’s a staggering 10,000:1 native contrast ratio, which is made possible by advancements in LCD technology and Wire Grid polarizers. Within the 110lb box, a RSVP4 custom digital video processing unit will switch signals, scale and process source feeds from peripherals like gaming consoles, Blu-Ray players, cable and satellite receivers, and even DVD players (if you still have one of those). JVC plans on shipping the projector with a high quality projection zoom lens. Connectivity is supplied by an Ethernet port, as well as network ports for controlling the projector remotely from a PC or network that is connected to the projector. But here’s the kicker: $175,000 to pick this thing up, which is going to start being shipped in October.

JVC have outed their latest range of D-ILA home theater projectors, with a full six models on offer spanning prices from $5,000 to $10,000. Three – the DLA-RS35, DLA-RS25 and DLA-RS15 – will be pushed via JVC’s professional products arm, while the remainder – the DLA-HD990, DLA-HD950 and DLA-HD550 – will go on sale via the consumer group. Most impressive about all the models, though, are their contrast ratios: even the entry HD550 manages 30,000:1, while the top-spec RS35 and HD990 manage 70,000:1.

Four of them – the RS35, HD990, RS25 and HD950 – are THX certified, and interpolate colors separately in three separate axes of color phase, chroma saturation and brightness. All models have a 1.4 – 2.8:1 zoom lens with motorized auto-focus, manual gamma curve adjustment and ±80 percent vertical and ±34 percent horizontal motorized lens shift managed from the included remote control.

Connectivity includes HDMI 1.3, and there’s also double-speed 120Hz Clear Motion Drive across the board. The projectors begin shipping this month, priced at $5,000 for the HD550, $5,500 for the RS15, $8,000 for the RS25/HD950 and $10,000 for the RS35/HD990.

Press Release:

New JVC D-ILA Home Theater Projector Line Features Top Model With 70,000:1 Native Contrast

New features include ISF certification, high speed frame rate and more.

ATLANTA, September 10, 2009 – JVC updates its award-winning line of D-ILA home theater projectors with the introduction of six new models, each offering the high native contrast that has made JVC projectors top-selling favorites among the most demanding home theater enthusiasts. The new line includes four THX® Certified projectors and all six achieve unprecedented contrast ratios without the need for artificial contrast enhancing techniques, such as a dynamic iris. In fact, JVC’s new top-end model boasts a native contrast ratio of 70,000:1 – the highest among all currently available home theater projectors.

The new projectors are the DLA-RS35, DLA-RS25 and DLA-RS15 to be marketed by JVC’s professional products group, and the DLA-HD990, DLA-HD950 and DLA-HD550, available through JVC’s consumer electronics group. All six projectors feature the same D-ILA technology and features found in previous models, but add improvements in both performance and usability.

New for 2010 is JVC’s double-speed 120Hz Clear Motion Drive technology to reduce motion blurring, and a new screen adjustment mode to optimize the projector for different screen types – features available on all six new models. Four of the six new projectors – DLA-RS35, DLA-RS25, DLA-HD990 and DLA-HD950 – offer JVC’s new original picture modes, which provides advanced processing that adjusts for the different way that projectors process color compared to the color mixture method used in film. As a result, the projector delivers the subtle nuances typically associated only with a movie theater presentation. What’s more, these same four new models are certified by ISF and so include an ISF C3 mode so they can be professionally calibrated.

All six new projectors use JVC-developed 0.7-inch full HD D-ILA devices and the company’s wire-grid optical engine. These key technologies combine to deliver unprecedented native contrast, meaning that there is no dynamic iris to artificially inflate contrast specifications. As a result, the projectors simultaneously deliver true blacks and extraordinary luminance detail.

The pinnacle of this performance is found in the new DLA-RS35 and DLA-HD990. These projectors offer the highest performance yet of any D-ILA home theater projector, with a native contrast ratio of 70,000:1. This unparalleled performance is achieved in part by using components that are made to the most exacting of tolerances. This includes the selection of only the highest performing optical assemblies, the selection and matching of the D-ILA devices, and final adjustment by highly trained JVC technicians. In addition, the DLA-RS35 and DLA-HD990 come with a three year warranty.

Native contrast ratio specifications for the other new projectors are:

DLA-HD550 – 30,000:1
DLA-RS15 – 32,000:1
DLA-RS25/DLA-HD950 – 50,000:1

The top four models – DLA-RS35, DLA-HD990, DLA-RS25 and DLA-HD950 – are all THX Certified (for all worldwide markets) to ensure accurate and exceptional picture quality in the home theater environment. With strict attention to image quality and signal processing performance, THX certification promises that these projectors are capable of presenting a wide range of video content at maximum resolutions with the correct color and luminance levels. In addition, THX has created a battery of signal processing tests that challenge the projector’s scaling, motion conversion and de-interlacing capabilities. This type of in-depth analysis predicts how the projectors will present a variety of high definition and standard definition content.

These same four models also feature color management that interpolates colors individually by R, G, B, C, Y, or M, in three separate axes of color phase, chroma saturation and brightness. Up to three customized color settings can be stored for future use.

Features shared by all six new projectors include:
•	Three JVC-developed D-ILA devices (red, green, blue) for a naturally rich, flicker-free picture;
•	HQV Reon-VX video processor developed by Silicon Optix to ensure excellent image reproduction with precision I/P conversion and scaling;
•	A high-performance 1.4 – 2.8:1 zoom lens with motorized focus features a large diameter, all-glass lens system with 16 elements in 17 groups that includes an ED lens to project a full HD image with exceptional depth and minimal chromatic aberration;
•	Manual adjustment of the gamma curve via an on-screen display, allowing the viewer to adjust projector luminance levels by either increasing contrast in scenes that are too dark or dimming washed-out scenes to ensure precise brightness levels suited to individual preferences or viewing conditions. Up to three settings can be adjusted and stored for future use;
•	Flexible set-up with a ±80 percent vertical and ±34 percent horizontal motorized lens shift function that allows the projected picture to be moved horizontally or vertically via the remote control.
Other features include an external 12-volt trigger (not available on the DLA-HD550) that can be used to automatically raise and lower a screen or draw curtains, or it can be linked to engaging the V-Stretch mode and move an optional anamorphic wide screen lens system into place. Also, an automatic lens cover opens and closes with power on/off.

All six projectors comply with HDMI version 1.3 (Deep Color/CEC) specifications, which provide for billions of colors and reproduce subtler shades of grey, and CEC compatibility for system control.

The new JVC D-ILA projectors begin delivery in September, 2009 at the following prices:

DLA-RS35/DLA-HD990:	$10,000.00
DLA-RS25/DLA-HD950:	$8,000.00
DLA-RS15:	$5,500.00
DLA-HD550:	$5,000.00
