A company called Knowles Acoustics has unveiled a new low-power digital MEMS joystick that is specifically for handheld consumer devices. The joysticks are small and should fit on many different devices. The controller measures 9.8 x 9.8 x 1.6mm and needs no additional controller IC.

The lack of need for controller IC means that the controller can be integrated into thinner and smaller devices. The maker claims that the joystick has the feel of an analog joystick with the low current consumption needed for extending battery life on portable gadgets.

This joystick also not only works on the iPad of course, it works on whichever kind of capacitive touchscreen you want to use it on (but works best on tablets because it’s pretty much giant.) The bulk of the object is made of solid milled-aluminum and the bottom is padded in a way that will not harm your device. It takes its name from that beastly fighter jet known as the A-10 Warthog with the multiple barrel cannon o’ death the aircraft is actually built around. The joystick and throttle are exact replicas of the one that is found inside the A-10C and sport 55 programmable buttons. The dual throttle has a bunch of toggles that can be programmed for game functions. The throttle has multiple detents and uses a push pull system with magnetic resistance for accuracy and realism. The throttle itself has 17 different action buttons including a POV hat control.

The joystick has 19 buttons and its own POV hat control. The controller has magnetic sensor system for ultimate precision and has buttons with the same pressure required to activate them as the buttons in a real aircraft. The joystick handle is detachable and can be used on the lesser HOTAS Cougar controller system. The base can be removed allowing the thing to be installed in a cockpit. The only downside here is that the Warthog system sells for $499.99. It will be available this month.

The XCM Dominator joystick will help you “dominate” all opposition in the latest Street Fighter game.  The USB based Dominator supports macro programming and will hold up to 20 keystroke combinations to help give you the unfair advantage in any game. No longer will you be logging countless hours getting the perfect finish down packed, just the press of a button will make you look like a video game god.

Of course the arcade stick has a rapid-fire turbo button, what would a 3rd party controller be without one. Other than the shining lights and above-mentioned mods there are now clear indicators as to whether or not there is any force feedback included.  This is one of the best deals you will find on such an arcade stick at just $89.99.

To jog your memory, the XCM Dominator is an arcade style joystick for Playstation 3 console offering programmable rapid fire / turbo and a macro mode for up to 20 steps, to perform combo moves that you wouldn’t be able to do with a regular game stick. The macro/ program can be stored into four memory keys and engaged with a simple click on the corresponding memory button.

The joystick has blue LEDs surrounding the edge of the enclosure, and that’s what glows inside the translucent black case. The MSRP of this new joystick is $89.99, it’s scheduled to ship early to mid next week from its official retailer extreme-mods.com.
