Latest PS3 Firmware is Broken by PSJailbreak

Oh you hackers. The folks over at PSJailbreak start the week strong by announcing their positive break into PS3 firmware 3.42, 3.50, and they say any future firmware versions the peeps at Sony have to throw at them. They use a USB mod that allows users to break into their Playstation 3 and use unnaproved software and games. For you penguin lovers, it even allows you to load Linux into the big black box.

Apple TV jailbreak released with PwnageTool v4.1

The latest version of the iPhone Dev Team's PwnageTool, v4.1, has been released, with the new software updated to include jailbreaking of the new Apple TV.  The hack is an untethered jailbreak, taking advantage of the limera1n exploit among other things, though once you've actually got a jailbroken Apple TV there's not a huge amount you can do with it right now.

iPad limera1n PwnageTool gets video tease

A video showing iTunes restoring an iPad to pre-jailbreak iOS firmware 3.2.2 has been uploaded by iPhone Dev Team member MuscleNerd, suggesting that the next level in hacking for the Apple slate is fast approaching.  The technique apparently uses Geohot's limera1n exploit cooked into a new version of the Dev Team's PwnageTool; the next step, according to the hackers, is taking on the new Apple TV.

Geohot’s Limera1n Jailbreaking Utility Now Available for Mac

Geohot’s Limera1n Jailbreaking Utility Now Available for Mac

It's been said in the past that the jailbreaking community for iDevices never sleeps. And the community certainly has been busy this last week, especially with the release of Geohot's latest jailbreaking utility, Limera1n. The release of Limera1n caused a lot of waves throughout the community, as well as all those people out there who take advantage of jailbreaking (or more) their iDevice. But, unfortunately, Limera1n was only launched on PCs, which occured on 10/10/2010. Four days later, that's finally changed.

Greenpois0n Jailbreak tool gets Limera1n update

Greenpois0n Jailbreak tool gets Limera1n update

The iPhone/iOS hacking community has been busy over the past few days, dealing with a newly released exploit - Limera1n - by notorious modder Geohot that prompted the iPhone Dev Team to rethink their own strategy and not waste "a perfectly good bootrom hole" of their own.  It seems that work has come to fruition, too, with a new version of their Greenpois0n jailbreaking tool.

Apple TV jailbreak gets video demo: Apps ahoy!

We've been keeping a close eye on the Apple TV jailbreak situation, and with one reportedly functioning exploit based on SHAtter already tipped to be working on the set-top box, it was only a matter of time until it fell to the hacker's attempts.  The iPhone Dev Team wrapped SHAtter up in a custom build of their PwnageTool - apparently not quite ready for public release, sadly - and managed to convince the Apple TV to load a pre-jailbroken IPSW.

New Apple TV jailbreak already in works using SHAtter

New Apple TV jailbreak already in works using SHAtter

The SHAtter iPhone jailbreak we wrote about yesterday looks like it could be even more useful than previously thought.  As well as opening up the potential for jailbreaking/carrier-unlocking the iPhone and iPod touch while still allowing users to upgrade with official Apple firmware, new testing on the firmware for the new Apple TV has revealed that it, too, is susceptible to the same SHAtter jailbreak hack.

SHAtter exploit could let hacked iPhone 4 use official iOS updates [Video]

Say "shattered" and "iPod touch" in the same sentence, and we'd usually think you'd been careless with your new PMP.  Unfortunately for Apple's repairs department, however, SHAtter is actually a new exploit that should eventually replace now closed loophole used by the jailbreakme.com site.

Amazon’s Kindle Gets Jailbroken, Additional Font Options Now Available

Amazon’s Kindle Gets Jailbroken, Additional Font Options Now Available

It was only a matter of time. The new Kindle has been jailbroken, and now you can take advantage of the options that come along with it. Of course, if you're not a fan of handling a device that's not necessarily "up to code" from the original manufacturer, you could always sit back and just enjoy official updates. But, if you do like to get your hands a little dirty, then you'll be happy to know that all of the previous jailbroken-specific hacks that were available for the previous generation Kindle are now available for the newer version.

Apple TV iOS roots confirmed: jailbreak hacks ahoy!

Apple's mysterious mention of an "iProd2,1" in the iOS 4.2 beta spotted earlier this year has turned out to be the newest Apple TV, prompting speculation that the set-top box might be a potential jailbreak target for enterprising hackers.  Contrary to earlier rumors, Apple made little reference to the second-gen Apple TV's underlying OS at its launch earlier this month; it had initially been expected that they would push iOS heavily and even bring the App Store to the STB.

Cydia hack adds iOS 4.1 HDR support to iPhone 3GS/3G

Apple's HDR photography tool for iOS 4.1 on the iPhone 4 will soon be available for iPhone 3GS and 3G owners, albeit only those who have jailbroken their handsets.  Jailbreak expert Will Strafach is responsible for the hack, which will apparently be included as part of the Cydia unofficial download store available for jailbroken devices.
