Jabra has just announced its next series of headsets that should appeal to both the casual music listener as well as audiophiles everywhere. There are 3 new products in Jabra’s line-up: The Jabra REVO headphones, the Jabra REVO wireless headphones, and the Jabra VOX in-ear earphones. All offer great portability without sacrificing good quality music.

Jabra has worked together with Dolby to provide an even better music listening experience to consumers. With these new line-up of headphones comes support for Dolby’s Digital Plus technology. Users can download Jabra’s exclusive sound app for iOS and Android devices to enhance their music listening experience, similar to how Beats Audio devices are optimized for Beats Audio’s headphones.

Jabra emphasizes that its new lineup of headsets are able to be “used and abused”. The Jabra REVO headphones are built using steel aluminum frame, steel hinges, a shatter-proof headband. The Jabra VOX has tangle-free, durable cables that won’t tear apart when pulled too roughly. So you can spend the small fortune to purchase these headsets, and not have to worry about them breaking within a short amount of time.

The Jabra REVO headphones and Jabra VOX earphones are now available on both Amazon and Dell’s websites. You can purchase the Jabra REVO Wireless Bluetooth headphone for $249.99, the Jabra REVO corded headphone for $199.99, and the Jabra VOX earphones for $99.99. For those of you who don’t know, Jabra is a renown brand in the audio business, and has recently won the Red Dot Design Award, an award given to the “best in design and business”.

There’s a new mobile wireless speaker in town and it goes by the name Jabra Solemate – and it looks like a really strange shoe. This device is indeed as the manufacturer describes – about the size and weight of a water bottle – and is able to play wirelessly (with Bluetooth), with a standard 3.5mm audio cord, or with a USB cable. This device has an integrated subwoofer and dual tweeters to keep you banging even in the most mobile-minded of places.

What you’ll get here is a lovely little high-quality mobile speaker set up quite clearly to compete with similar-sized speakers – you know who that is. At the moment it’s not quite possible to tell which unit is “better” so to speak as we’ve not had a full test of this Jabra device. But given the quality of Jabra products we’ve worked with before, great things are bound to happen here.

This Jabra Solemate device is being shown off in collaboration with the platform known as ClubCreate, a User Generated Content group that makes music mixes across the world. With Jabra and the Solemate on their side, mobile music mixes are sure to be on the rise. And with the style and super odd look of the Solemate, we’re definitely going to be interested in sporting it in public.

Look at this little shoe device. It’s not mean to be worn on your foot, but the hook certainly is there. Stick to the surface and let the beats roll out! This device will be available extremely soon if not immediately (depending on when you’re reading this, of course) through a variety of major retailers and Jabra themselves for $199 MSRP. You’ll be able to pick up either white or black – your choice!

It’s time to take a look at Jabra‘s newest effort with the Supreme UC, a bluetooth headset that’s made not just for your home computer, not just your smartphone and tablet, but both! This device is priced at a premium $149.99 and is crafted to make you love that you’ve just exchanged such a sum for great sound. It’s got a completely collapsable chassis, comes with a carrying case as well as an extra earpiece, and works with a universally acceptable micro USB for power.

You’ve got a single button on the boom for basic voice controls, a giant multifunction button on the facade of the unit, and two volume buttons at the back surrounding the covered micro USB port. The device is an extremely high quality piece of hardware by all outward appearances, and it is rather comfortable to wear. Be sure to check out our hands-on with the Supreme UC from earlier this year – the main man himself gives an introduction!

This device is not designed for an extremely active person. Try to do a couple of flips or go for a jog and you’ll find yourself wishing you had a bit more of a firm grip around your lobe. If you’re the type of person to sit at your desk all day long or to walk without bobbing your head uncontrollably, you’ll have a perfectly well-suited device on your head. The design of this device also allows for left or right-eared users, with a hook attachment able to work with the earpiece on either side.

Folding the boom in turns the device off, folding it back out turns it back on, and pairing with any number of devices is quite simple. The device is automatically in pairing mode the first time you turn it on, and from that point forward you’ve only to tap the multifunction button and say, “pair new device” and you’ll be ready to go.

The sound quality is certainly decent on its own with any device, but really shines when you’re using your Jabra Connect Android app where you’ll have the choice of several voice cancellation and sound profiles. Sound on the other end of the phone is superb, even in the middle of a coffee shop packed to the brim with hipsters. The person you’re calling will think you’re in an empty room when you’re chatting with them with the Jabra Supreme UC.

Wrap-Up

It’s difficult to consider spending $150 on a headset when you could just pull your phone out of your pocket instead in most situations, but here’s the killer feature: the USB dongle that comes with the device will allow you to completely skip buying a second unit. The Jabra Supreme UC replaces your in-office headset as well as your mobile headset in one swoop. With excellent sound quality for you (the best if you’re on Android) as well as great sound quality and noise cancellation for the person you’re speaking with, the Jabra Supreme UC might just be the buy for you.

Grab this device at any number of local retailers near you and online. This device is going to be available worldwide immediately if not soon, to get to it!

What we’ve got on the review bench today is another quality audio product from a company known to make such great devices, this time in the form of a Conference Call aimed speakerphone: the Jabra Speak 410. This device is able to act as a speakerphone by connecting to your PC via USB, sound coming from the 3.5mm headset jack or its own speaker, with sound-in covered by one omni-directional microphone allowing what Jabra notes (and we agree) is a 1-to-2 meter range. This speaker works with Windows machines and Apple computers of all kinds with both plug-and-play capabilities as well as included drivers on a mini-CD in the box – if need be.

This device is pretty darn slick. You pop it out of the box and you’ve got a carrying case that zips up around it right away. There’s a USB cord that’ll allow you to get a couple of feed away from the device you’re plugging into, and just a couple of taps on your computer and you’re ready to go. I had the Jabra Speak 410 up and running in under 5 minutes, starting at the moment I tried to open the box – and it had tape on it!

You’ll find that the device is extremely intuitive to use with touch-sensitive buttons in each location around the speaker. There’s volume up, volume down, microphone on, microphone off, Answer/on, End/off, and a headphone jack. You can keep the device plugged in and use the hangup button to turn it off at night, or you can simply unplug it. There’s no battery capacity here because you’ve got to have it plugged in for it to act as a speaker / microphone anyway, and everything works with the one build-in USB cord right out of the box.

As you’ll see in the Q and A section on the Speak 410 on Jabra’s website, this device will receive software updates throughout its lifespan. This should be indicator enough that Jabra isn’t messing around with its products like so many other companies do.

Not many other companies offer a speakerphone that would benefit from software updates, of course, but right when you first plug this one in to your PC, you can use the disk that comes in the box to install a program called Jabra PC Suite. From there, you’ll be upgrading to newer and more excellent versions of the device’s firmware through the future. This won’t work on a Mac (not yet, anyway), and if you have no idea what any of this means, you shouldn’t need to do it anyway as it almost certainly wont be vital to your device’s future. No worries!

Wrap-up

In the end, this device is a boost for your computer’s microphone and speaker system. If you’ve already got these enhancements over the basic build on your PC, then you might never need a device such as this. On the other hand, the microphone quality is surprisingly clear and the speaker can get quite loud, the quality quite surprising for the size of the device, bass thumping and all.

The only down side on this device is the price – at right around $100 USD, this might be a hold-back for some consumers who just want it as an everyday device. For those of you looking to bump up the capabilities of your computer with which you conference call with colleagues every day – we certainly recommend the Jabra Speak 410.

The two big categories of interest at CTIA 2012 as far as we’re concerned are Devices and Accessories, the latter being what we’re going to have a look at today. Have a peek back at our CTIA 2012 Devices round-up from yesterday and prepare yourself here for a set of oddities and masterfully executed device helpers such as you’ve never laid your own eyes on before! This year’s CTIA was a little bit more tame than in past years for how powerful a delivery of devices it was, so we had a chance to hit accessories hard – behold the fruits of our labor, one by one!

Start your journey down accessories way with none other than the folks who brought you the PowerBag with the myCharge extended battery lineup 2012 refresh in full hands-on fashion. A brand new company you’re going to want to keep your eyes on is NEXGEN Skins for their dimensional gadget coverings of all kinds – a completely new solution! During the second of two big keynote presentations, VISA President John Partridge brought on the accessories talk as he announced that they’d “moved beyond” NFC for their mobile payments across the earth – they’ll still use NFC of course, but it’s bigger than all that!

One device that sort of bridges the gap between device and accessory is the Jabra Supreme UC Bluetooth headset with its flip-up microphone and noise cancellation in droves. Energizer brought on some multi-power chargers with clamps and lights. On the truly thin side, Digipower ChargeCard mini powerpacks stole the mini side of the show.

In what was easily the most impressive display of the show, Tech21 and their “Impactology” brought on a hammer to the goo – and tossed an iPhone against a wall to boot! The fashion forward folks at Moshi brought the Moshi iGlaze Versacover to the show to show everyone what it means to take an Apple design to the next level – believe it or not!

Otterbox brought their A-game with a collection of new cases for the HTC One series and DROID Incredible 4G the same day it was announced! AT&T brought us to a house where they had a whole array of accessories brought together to form the Voltron of home automation systems: AT&T Digital Life in person! SuperTooth came on strong with some brand new SuperTooth Bluetooth Melody Headphones in a lovely shade of purple.

We saw a cool new in-car Clarion Next Gate iPhone dashboard controller with tap-tastic features onboard a 7-inch display. The folks at HzO Waterblock Hydrophobic smartphone coatings showed us what it really means to be waterproof. And the hits just kept on coming! Have a peek at our [CTIA 2012 portal] for our entire collection of on-site adventures as well!

This week the folks at Jabra are bringing up their game with a brand new Bluetooth headset by the name of Jabra Supreme, and we’ve gotten the chance to see and hold (but not hear) it at Pepcom during CTIA 2012. This lovely little beast has what appears at first to be a bigger than usual earpiece when you consider the competition, but once you hear the sound and the sound cancellation, Jabra notes, you’ll know where all that extra space went. Have a peek at how this futuristic wireless sound machine works!

This headset will be coming out next month from Jabra to add to their excellent lineup of Bluetooth and USB speakers out in the states already. What you’ve got here is a Bluetooth-connected earpiece, both a speaker for your ear and a microphone, that is, complete with some next-level noise cancellation. The noise cancellation we’re told is able to work for both you and the person you’re speaking with on the other end of the phone – if you’re using this headset to speak with a friend via your Bluetooth-capable phone, that is.

There’s a talk button, an easy to use attachment bit to hold this device to your ear, and an on-off switch that couldn’t be more intuitive. To switch this device off, just fold up the microphone bar to the speaker. This will also make the device more compact and able to fit in the tiny case that comes with it. Also coming with the pack is a USB dongle that’ll fit into your device that’s not normally able to work with Bluetooth, converting the signal to work instantly for you and yours.

This device is set to be released for $149 estimated retail price very, very soon. Grab it!

Jabra has a hoard of different Bluetooth devices that have been around for a long time. The company has announced a new BT headset that is claimed to be the first mono headset to include active noise cancellation features. Jabra has active noise cancellation on some of its other devices and the tech generally works really well.

The noise cancellation tech helps to make your conversation clearer even if you are in the car and there is lots of wind and other noise going on around you. Along with active noise cancellation, the headset also gets Noise Blackout 3.0 and Wind-Noise Reduction technology to help make call quality even better no matter where you are.

The headset also has a patent boom arm that flips to turn the headset on or off. It uses an adjustable ear hook for comfort and it comes with an assortment of ear tips for a better fit and more comfort. The Supreme will be available in October and will cost $99.

At CTIA 2011 we’ve been given the opportunity to take a close look at Jabra’s newest effort, a dip into the world of speakerphone technology with a device that’s made specifically to attach to your car’s visor over your head whilst you drive. This is a device that, at a glance, looks very similar to a device yours truly recently reviewed over on Android Community, but we’ll get to that in a little bit.* This device features three speakers, HD Voice Ready for fabulous quality audio both from and two the device as a conduit to and from your phone.

Two models were on hand, one with the cover on, one where we were able to take a peek under the hood. As you can see in the images above and below, there are indeed three speakers featured on this device, each of them pumping sweet sounds directly to your ears for superior quality sound as it connects to your device, be it an iPad 2, mp3 player, or video game console. The look we’ve been given is the first that anyone in the whole wide world of media has seen it, and we got a really nice fellow to give us a full run-through of the details.

What this device reminds me of is the Motorola Roadster, a device which you can peek at a review of [right over here]. The reason I mention that particular unit is that it’s got many of the same features that this one does. The difference is that this one’s made in a slightly more third-party manner, this meaning that a whole market of speakers, receivers, and transmitters has potentially been cracked open. We’re excited because we really did enjoy the ability to wirelessly connect to the car’s audio whenever entering the car, and this device looks just lovely.

The Jabra FREEWAY is apparently the first to include three speakers and be HD Voice compliant; that, the company reckons, makes it ideal not only for hands-free calls in the car, but for use with an iPod, smartphone or other PMP thanks to Bluetooth A2DP support.

As for HD Voice, as long as you have a compatible phone you should see higher quality audio during calls. The FREEWAY has voice recognition – to control making, answering, ending, redialing or rejecting calls – as well as automatic power control that can bring the speakerphone out of standby mode when you get into the car, and then shut it down again at the end of your journey.

There’s also spoken caller ID, and a year’s bundled subscription to Voice Assist, which allows you to send and respond to emails, SMS, Facebook and Twitter messages. The Jabra FREEWAY will hit US shelves in May, priced at $129.

Press Release:

JABRA LAUNCHES INDUSTRY-FIRST SPEAKERPHONE WITH THREE SPEAKERS AND HD VOICE READY TECHNOLOGY

Take Calls & Listen to Music Anywhere You Are With the Jabra FREEWAY;
Partnership with Voice Assist Creates the Ultimate Hands-Free Solution

Orlando, FL – March 23, 2011– Jabra today announced the Jabra FREEWAY, a revolutionary new speakerphone that features industry-first innovation and expands the Company’s wide offerings in the category. Taking audio quality to a whole new level, the Jabra FREEWAY features a ground-breaking new three speaker system – a first-ever in the category – along with HD Voice Ready, ensuring superior audio quality on both ends of a phone call. The Jabra FREEWAY provides unique versatility as both a device to be used inside or outside the car and for both calls as well as listening to music with any device – an iPad, iPod Touch, iPhone, mp3 players or video game console. The Jabra FREEWAY will be showcased at CTIA Wireless show this week in Orlando, Florida, prior to the North American launch in May.

The Jabra FREEWAY features an intuitive design and a complete hands-free experience for users, allowing them to focus on the task at hand. Once the Jabra FREEWAY is clipped to the car’s visor, it automatically turns on when the car door is opened and then helps the driver pair the device to a mobile phone. Drivers can then sit back with their hands on the wheel and focus on the road ahead and use their voice to solicit all kinds of commands – making, answering, ending, redialing or rejecting calls – without touching their phone. And once a conversation is finished or a destination reached, the FREEWAY automatically shuts off so there is no need to worry about saving battery life for the next use.

The Jabra FREEWAY also comes with a free one year subscription (valued at $59) to Voice Assist, a voice controlled app that can be used with any type of mobile phone or IP-connected device. With Voice Assist, calls and commands can be performed all by voice controlled communication, allowing users to call, send or respond to emails and text messages, or post to social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter, all by voice.

Those features combined with Voice Guidance, which communicates pairing instructions, battery level and connection status, and Caller ID, an easy and safe way to know who is calling by announcing the name of the caller or the phone number if the caller is not in your phonebook, provide a truly hands-free experience.

Other industry-leading features include Virtual Surround Sound, delivering superior audio quality and rich, crisp, full stereo sound anywhere your day takes you – at home, in the car or at a friend’s house – and A2DP for playing music and podcasts or listening to GPS directions, long talk and stand-by times, connection to more 2 Bluetooth devices at same time, and auto on/off.
The Jabra FREEWAY was recently named a winner of the 2011 red dot awards for product design, and is currently a finalist in the CTIA 2011 Emerging Technology (E-Tech) Awards Program.
Among the gear that is being shown off at the show is the Jabra Stone 2 and the Freeway. The Stone 2 we have seen before back in November 2010 when it first surfaced.

The big feature of the Stone 2 is the voice control that allows for hands free communication and the voice system will tell the user who is calling as well and then calls can be answered or blocked using voice commands. The Stone 2 also has a wireless charger that recharges the headset on the go. The Freeway is a new device that is a first for the in-car speakerphone market and it will be coming to the US in Q2.

The device has three speakers that use virtual surround sound to make the conversation clearer than ever. If you have a noisy car that extra speaker will help things significantly. The Freeway has a motion sensor that turns the speakerphone on and off when it senses the door open or close making for better battery life without having to remember to turn the device off by hand. Pricing is unknown at this time.

Jabra is well known for making some really cool Bluetooth headsets for mobile phone users and the company makes a range of offerings for other uses like VoIP as well. Jabra has announced new products that are compatible with the new Microsoft Lync system.

The new products include the Jabra Speak 410, the Jabra Go 6470, and the Jabra Pro 9400. The Speak 410 is a desktop USB powered speakerphone that has full duplex and wideband sound in the 6800Hz range for call clarity. The mic is omnidirectional and has 360-degree coverage. That means that multiple users at a conference table can use the 410 at once. It also has an integrated ringer and 3.5mm headphone control.

The Go 6470 and 9400 are very similar with both being able to be used with the computer in the office and with a mobile device on the go. The devices can be used with multiple phones allowing for business and personal calls with one headset. Pricing and availability on the new Jabra gear is unknown at this time.

Jabra has outed its latest Bluetooth headset, an update to the distinctive – some would say plain odd – STONE. The Jabra STONE2 gets an updated, glossy finish but, more usefully, a new voice-control system that allows you to initiate calls, answer them and reject them all with spoken commands. However, throw in Jabra’s selected third-party apps and there’s a whole lot more functionality to play with.

For instance, you can dictate text messages and emails, get custom traffic reports and post to Facebook, depending on the app and which smartphone OS you’re using. It’s functionality we’ve seen other manufacturers build into their own software, but at least Jabra is giving users the choice.

What hasn’t changed with the STONE2 is the pricing, and it’s still a hefty $129.99. It’ll land in AT&T stores from November 21.

Press Release:

JABRA UNVEILS BLUETOOTH HEADSET THAT ‘TALKS’ TO USERS, OFFERS COMPLETE CONTROL WITH VOICE COMMANDS

Jabra STONE2 Delivers True Wireless Freedom,
Brings a New Level of Style & Usability to Bluetooth Headsets

Nashua, NH – November 10, 2010 – Imagine sending a text message or updating your Facebook page by just using your voice? Or being able to answer and screen calls with a simple voice command? Jabra, a world leader in innovative headset solutions, today announced a ground-breaking new Voice System with the Jabra STONE2. Recently named an International CES Best of Innovations 2011 Design and Engineering Awards Honoree, the Jabra STONE2 received the top score in the Wireless Handsets Accessories category for its engineering and innovative design. The Jabra STONE2 will be available for $129.99 at AT&T* retail stores nationwide beginning November 21, 2010.

“The Jabra STONE has been a very successful product for us – both from a retail perspective through working with AT&T – as well as a consumer awareness perspective,” said Jonas Forsberg, General Manager North America, mobile division, GN Netcom, Inc. “We set out to create something so different and unique in look and design that it would appeal to all types of users. The STONE2 takes it one step further with an innovative Voice System, multimedia capabilities and optimization with a wide variety of voice enabled applications.”

The next generation of the hugely successful Jabra STONE, the STONE2 allows for truly hands-free communication while building on the success of its predecessor and featuring the same revolutionary design. The Jabra STONE2 is the first Bluetooth® headset that allows users to take calls further and easier. Innovative new features allow for easy, hands-free communication including an all-new:

- Voice Control
o Make calls using the sound of your voice (For example, “Call Dad”)
o Answer an incoming call by simply saying “Answer”
o Reject a call by saying “Ignore”

- Voice Guidance
o Hear the name of an incoming caller through the headset (For example: “Mom Cell” or “David’s Work”), exactly how you have the caller programmed into your phone. If the caller’s number isn’t saved to your phone, the headset will read out the phone number.
o A “Connected” audio alert means the STONE2 is paired with your mobile device
o The STONE2 signals a “Low Battery” audio alert when it needs to be charged. Battery levels also appear on the iPhone® to avoid guessing when the headset battery is running low
o The STONE2 talks users through an easy set-up process of pairing the headset to a mobile or smart phone (including the iPhone)

- Voice Enabled Applications
o Utilizing the Jabra World of Apps, consumers can easily and quickly find applications that fit their lifestyle and make the most of their headset experience. With third-party hands-free apps that have been hand-selected and rigorously tested to work with the Jabra STONE2 and other Jabra products, the Portal includes a robust suite of voice-enabled apps allowing users to:
§ Send text messages or emails using their voice
§ Read email messages
§ Update status on social networking sites including Facebook
§ Notify users of missed calls
§ Listen to customized music stations
§ Find a business
§ Get local traffic reports and updates

o The Jabra STONE2 iPhone app provides consumers with not only a product introduction and overview but four “solution videos.” The videos highlight everyday situations where headsets and apps can improve your lifestyle, providing real-life examples so users can chose what is best for them.

- Multimedia & More
o Play music, watch videos, listen to podcasts and get directions from GPS applications with new multimedia streaming capabilities

“The Jabra STONE2 takes everything our customers found appealing about the original STONE – design, style, portability – and adds voice communication enhancements that truly allow a user to be hands-free,” said Michael Cowan, AT&T director of accessories, AT&T Mobility & Consumer Markets. “We are pleased to work with Jabra to expand and innovate our accessories portfolio.”

With a shape like no other headset on the market, the Jabra STONE2 elegantly wraps behind the ear eliminating the standard on-face microphone and combining both style and functionality. With a new and improved fit, the STONE2 includes a choice of four “comfort-tested” and ergo-designed ear gels to provide a personalized fit for different ear shapes and sizes. In addition, the wireless portable charger functions as a compact carrying case that fits into the palm of your hand – simply plug your headset into the charger and power-up whenever and wherever you want.

The Jabra STONE2 will be available at AT&T retail stores and Att.com for a suggested retail price of $129 beginning November 21, 2010.

Jabra have outed a pair of new Bluetooth devices, including a low-cost alternative to the Jabra Stone, the Jabra Extreme, and a Bluetooth speakerphone, the Jabra Cruiser. The Extreme is more traditionally designed than the Stone, but has the same Noise Blackout Extreme background-noise cancellation DSP technology as the more expensive headset.

Noise Blackout Extreme can apparently slice out up to 24dB of background noise, versus the 12dB of previous Jabra DSP technology. Jabra promise it’ll be a comfortable fit, too, thanks to “Ultimate-fit Eargel” buds. The Extreme can pair with two Bluetooth devices simultaneously, receive A2DP stereo audio (though only play it in mono, obviously), automatically adjusts volume and lasts for up to 5.5hrs talktime or up to 10.5 days standby. It’s available now in Best Buy for $79.99.

As for the Jabra Cruiser, the speakerphone also gets Noise Blackout Extreme and has spoken caller ID announcements which link into the cellphone’s address book to match names rather than speaking numbers. It can also stream A2DP music and has an FM transmitter to funnel your audio (and conversations) through your car speakers. Battery life is up to 14hrs talktime or 300hrs standby, and it can pair to two devices simultaneously. It’s also available now, priced at $99.99.

Las Vegas, NV – January 6, 2010 – GN Netcom, the world leader in innovative headset solutions, today announced the Jabra CRUISER, the first Bluetooth® wireless speakerphone for mobile phones to feature Noise BlackoutTM technology, a dual microphone system that eliminates street and traffic sounds while optimizing voice quality. Joining Jabra’s successful and critically acclaimed line of speakerphones, the CRUISER offers superior audio quality, a sleek design, and in-car convenience, allowing drivers to keep both hands on the wheel in compliance with hands-free driving laws. The Jabra CRUISER will be shown for the first time this week at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show (CES).
Currently, six states prohibit all drivers from talking on handheld cell phones while driving, and additional states are following suit. Violation of such laws could result in a ticket; however, there are a number of wireless solutions to help keep both hands on the wheel and savings in the bank. The Jabra CRUISER includes features that keep users informed of incoming calls, battery level, and connectivity status – all without the touch of a finger. The device features caller ID in the form of voice announcements, which intelligently accesses a paired phone’s address book to announce the name of an incoming caller. StatusDisplay LED indicators on the speakerphone display multi-colored lights that correspond to the headset’s battery level and Bluetooth connection status so users can gauge their status with just one glance.
The Jabra CRUISER also conquers one of the biggest limitations with car speakerphones: ambient noise. The proprietary Noise Blackout technology identifies the direction of various sounds – including traffic and backseat chatter – and reduces only surrounding noise without distorting a user’s voice. The technology uses dual microphones to capture the sound and then intelligently filters the ambient noise only. Used together with advanced DSP technology for echo reduction, the technology allows both sides of a call to be heard in natural sounding voice quality.
Featuring MultiuseTM connectivity, the Jabra CRUISER allows two Bluetooth-enabled devices – including mobile phones, smartphones, and MP3 players – to be paired simultaneously via a turnkey auto-pairing function for instant usability.	Ideal for both family road trips or business travel, the CRUISER detects an incoming call and connects to the respective device. MP3 tracks can even be remotely controlled from the CRUISER with simple play, pause and rewind buttons on the speakerphone. In addition, a built-in FM transmitter allows calls and MP3s stored on a mobile device and played via the Jabra
CRUISER to be heard through a car’s stereo system. Ensuring that users won’t miss phone calls while listening to music, the CRUISER even fades out music to allow for incoming calls.

JABRA DELIVERS ULTIMATE NOISE CANCELLATION WITH NEW JABRA EXTREME BLUETOOTH HEADSET

Features User-Friendly Controls, Comfortable Design, and Innovative Patented Dual Microphone Technology to Ensure Highest Caliber Call Quality

Las Vegas, NV – January 6, 2010 – GN Netcom, the world leader in innovative headset solutions, today announced the Jabra EXTREME, a Bluetooth® headset that features a fantastic new innovation: Noise BlackoutTM Extreme. Noise Blackout Extreme builds on Jabra’s distinguished heritage in noise cancelling technologies using dual microphones and automatic volume control to dramatically enhance call quality, providing twice as much background noise reduction (24 decibels) as previous Noise BlackoutTM technology (12 decibels). In addition, a unique new Ultimate-fit EargelTM has been developed to guarantee superior comfort for all day use. The Jabra EXTREME will be shown for the first time this week at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show (CES).
The Jabra EXTREME makes poor quality calls a distant memory. To create the clearest call possible, dual microphones capture sound while intelligently filtering out background noise. This eliminates ambient noise even in the loudest environments, enhancing the call clarity and ensuring the caller never sounds like a robot.
The Jabra EXTREME is designed for comfort and style – users won’t even realize that they are wearing a headset. Specially developed Ultimate-fit EargelsTM mold to any ear shape to ensure a snug fit: one size really does fit all with the Jabra EXTREME. The headset also comes with two rotatable ear hooks that are contoured to fit the ear perfectly, ensuring a comfortable fit all day long. Maintaining the good looks of its predecessor, the Jabra BT530, the EXTREME features a sleek, updated style which appeals to music fans and road warriors alike.
Delivering the ultimate user-friendly experience, the Jabra EXTREME truly allows users to be hands free by eliminating the need to fiddle with any buttons while on a call or making calls. While on a call, the headset automatically adjusts the volume of the call to suit both the environment and the in-coming voice, intelligently amplifying a quiet voice and reducing a loud one. In addition, a technology called Acoustic Shock Protection protects the user’s ear from any sudden blasts of noise. The headset also allows a user to manually fine-tune voice and music volume to their liking. The EXTREME can also be connected to two devices at the same time, making the transition between PC and mobile phones, or music and talk, much easier.

Up until now, choosing a Bluetooth headset has demanded you pick between outright style and audio performance. Devices like the Plantronics Discovery 975 and the Jawbone PRIME have gone some way in disguising their boom microphones and preserving sound quality, but there’s still no mistaking that you’re wearing a Bluetooth headset. Into the fray steps the Jabra Stone, distinctive both for its curvaceous styling and its promises of boomless natural-sounding audio. Is your next Bluetooth headset a Stone’s throw away? Check out the full SlashGear review after the cut.

Jabra’s position is that you don’t need a boom for decent audio pickup, and to prove it they’ve sliced the Stone down to the bare minimum. A tight, pinched in loop, it has an ear hook that twists round, over the top of the ear and down to the canal, broadening as it goes, and with a small rubber-clad speaker on the inner edge. Build quality is very high, though given the fixed nature of the ear hook this is a headset for the right ear only.

Like other Bluetooth headsets we’ve seen recently, the Stone comes with a combination case/charger that can be used not only to store but also recharge the earpiece. In fact, this charger is where the Jabra gets its name from; when clicked into place, the Stone resembles just that, a stone. The internal battery in the Stone itself is good for up to 2hrs; it relies on up to three top-up charges from the 6hr battery in the case to reach Jabra’s quoted 8hrs runtime.

On the downside, there’s no easy way to charge the headset portion directly: it uses a proprietary connection with the charger (the latter has a more typical microUSB port for the AC adapter), and if you lose, misplace or forget it then you’re stuck with 2hrs and no more. Standby time is rated as up to a healthy 12 days – headset in charger, and both from fully charged and actively paired with your phone – and it takes around an hour to recharge the headset completely. An optional hook allows you to clip the charger to your belt for ready access. The belt clip is made from a flexible plastic so that it can hook onto a variety of materials — best used on coats, jackets, etc.

Like the HALO stereo Bluetooth headset we reviewed last month, Jabra have used a mixture of touch-sensitive and actual buttons for controlling the Stone. The Jabra logo is, in fact, a multi-purpose button – powering on or off requires a long hold, a single tap answers or ends a call, and clicking twice in rapid succession redials the last number – while sliding your finger up or down the header adjusts the volume. There’s support for voice dialing, if your cellphone supports that, together with the Bluetooth A2DP stereo profile; the Stone will combine the stereo tracks into a single, mono track for one ear, but it’s handy for quickly previewing a song or YouTube video. Multiuse (aka Multipoint connectivity) means you can have two devices paired at once, and there’s a discrete battery and Bluetooth status display rather than a cluster of bright blue, blinking lights.

Comfort levels proved very high, a combination of the Stone’s light weight (0.25oz), balanced design and the over-the-ear design not leaving the headset supported solely by an in-ear plug. While there’s no boom arm, it’s still not the most discrete of headsets – it’s pretty noticeable slung over your ear – but at least it’s not too ostensibly “space age”.

As for sound quality, given our exceptionally positive experiences with Plantronics (which resolutely do use a boom) recently we were skeptical of quite what Jabra’s Noise Blackout Extreme DSP might be able to achieve. Jabra claim up to 24dB of ambient noise reduction (twice that of their original system), using twin microphones and some clever processing that works out the direction of noise, background chatter and traffic based on sound delay between the pickups. How exactly it works we don’t quite know, but work it does. Sound quality in loud areas is high, with the Stone managing to deliver not only speech of the wearer but intonation and other nuances; in short, you sound less roboticized than with other systems. Similarly wind noise is sliced out of the conversation, with callers reporting little in the way of either background hiss, volume jumps or lurches, or cut-outs that can plague cheaper headsets.

Together, that adds up to a very successful Bluetooth headset, one that manages to deliver sound quality we’d associate with a full-boom rival and the comfort of a much smaller device. The lack of a non-proprietary port on the headset itself – meaning you have to carry the charger “stone” – is a potential frustration, as is its limitation to the right ear, but if you’ve rejected other headsets for being too obvious or too “call center” in their design then the Jabra Stone’s sleek shape could solve that without impairing audio quality. Priced at $129 when it arrives exclusively at AT&T stores from November 8th, it’s the same cost as the Plantronics Discovery 975 and the Jawbone PRIME; both are distinctive and well performing, but we’d plump for the Jabra Stone for its surreptitious style and excellent audio quality.

The great thing about teaser campaigns is that they give plenty of time for leaks to take place, and that’s just what we’ve seen with Jabra’s new Bluetooth headset, the Jabra Stone. While the preview site says you won’t get any more than a slinky silhouette for another 26 days, Gizmodo’s tipsters would rather you saw the curiously-coiled headset ahead of time.

The concept of the Stone, the tipsters say, is that when it docks into its charger-cradle it’s flush-fitting and so the whole thing looks like, well, a stone. It’ll be interesting to see how it actually slots into your ear, though; in our experience, the more unusual designs tend to end up feeling uncomfortable before the more traditional headsets.

According to Jabra the new headset will be released this coming Fall. No word on pricing or full specifications, so we’ll have to wait – either for the official release, or for more sneaky leaks – for find out.

Bluetooth headsets might be associated with spreading legislation demanding hands-free use of cellphones, but the short-range wireless technology also has a more entertaining use: A2DP wireless stereo. SlashGear has been testing out Jabra’s HALO headset, a set of folding stereo headphones that promise not only hands-off voice calls but wire-free music too. Check out our full review after the cut.

Opening up the headset and clicking the arms into place automatically powers it up; similarly, folding it back up will put it into standby. Jabra provide a simple carrying-pouch for transporting the HALO, together with a USB to microUSB cable for recharging from your laptop and – especially welcome – a mains adapter. The HALO supports the A2DP stereo profile, increasingly common on cellphones and PMPs, together with the AVRCP control profile. The latter is used to remotely control play/pause, volume and track-skipping on whichever device is connected, though its usability is sometimes dependent on whatever your source is; the iPhone 3GS, for instance, will allow for remote play/pause and volume control, but track-skipping must be done on the handset itself.

Bluetooth headsets walk a narrow line between overloading with buttons and attempting to make a few controls do far too many things. Jabra falls slightly on the latter side, with a single multifunction button that manages pairing, voice-dialling, call answering and play/pause, and a strip that handles both volume and track-skipping. Both are touch-sensitive, and we had mixed results with usability; the single button is large, slightly-dished and easy to find while wearing the HALO, as is strip for volume use. However skipping tracks – which is done by tapping the extremes of the strip – is trickier, as it requires your finger accurately locating the right position without seeing or feeling it. Something you get more used to with regular use, yes, but frustrating at first. Still, we’re glad that Jabra have hidden the status LED on the inside of the band, rather than as a flickering beacon on the outside.

Pairing the HALO is as straightforward as most headsets make it these days, requiring holding down the multifunction button until pairing mode is triggered, searching on whatever device you’re connecting, and tapping in the default 0000 PIN. Some more recent devices automagically guess the PIN based on Bluetooth headset tradition, making connectivity even easier. Since the HALO supports multipoint Bluetooth, you can have two devices connected at any one time, meaning the HALO can serve double duty with, say, a cellphone and a laptop. They’ll also remember up to six more devices. There’s also a bundled headphone cable which, when attached, turns the HALO into a regular wired stereo headset, useful if you want to use a device that lacks Bluetooth.

Unfortunately plugging in that cable shuts off the HALO’s Bluetooth functionality, which means you can’t then use the headset with one non-Bluetooth device and your cellphone, for instance. What it does allow is for comparison between wired and wireless audio quality, and we were reasonably pleased with the HALO. Like many Bluetooth headsets we’ve tried, treble and mid tones are emphasized while bass is less impressive; even over a wired connection, bass lacked the thumping hit we’d have liked to hear. Voice call performance was far more impressive, with the dual-microphone array and noise-reduction DSP adding up to natural and clean sounding audio for our test callers. There’s no microphone boom, but even from up around the ears the dual-microphones did a good job of isolating our voice. It’s not as impressive as some of the more complex mono headsets we’ve tried lately, such as the Plantronics Discovery 975, but it’s certainly usable with moderate background noise.

Jabra quote up to 8hrs talktime or music playback, or up to 8 days standby. We’ve been finding the HALO manages a little less than that, topping out at around six or seven hours wireless use. Plugging in the wired connection obviously will increase that usage time, and it takes a couple of hours to recharge the battery; the LED indicator on the inside arm lights up red while charging and winks out when the HALO is full.

Minor usability quibbles aside, the Jabra HALO is a decent choice for anybody wanting both wireless media use and hands-free conversations. Dual connectivity is very handy, while the wired option provides a fall-back option for when you’re occasionally using a non-Bluetooth device; we only hope that Jabra tweak their next-gen model to support both wired and wireless connections simultaneously. At $129 the HALO isn’t the cheapest headset we’ve seen, but it’s attractive, easily transported, comfortable and performs as expected; it gets a thumbs-up from SlashGear.

Meanwhile Canadian Best Buy stores will get the HALO sometime in October. The headset can be used for both music and hands-free calling, with 8hrs of talktime and up to 13 days of standby; it automatically fades out music playback whenever there’s an incoming call, and it’s compatible with cellphones, PMPs (including the iPod touch), laptops and the like. Two Bluetooth devices can be paired at a time.

There’s also a 3.5mm headphone cable in the box, just in case your battery is running low, and a nifty touch-sensitive volume control strip on the earpiece. It’s already listed as in stock on Best Buy’s site, priced at $129.99.

Jabra have announced two new wireless headset systems aimed more at deskbound workers wanting to cut their phone cords than true mobile users. The Jabra GO 6400 (shown here) and PRO 9400 use Bluetooth and DECT respectively, and come complete with a base station with an integrated 2.4-inch capacitive touchscreen display.

That display allows for calls to be switched between, volume adjusted and numbers redialed. Each unit can handle a combination of landline, cellphone and VoIP calls, with the Synaptics-sourced display use to flick between them. The Jabra GO 6400 has the regular Bluetooth range, while the PRO 9400 range is up to 450 feet. Each use dual-microphones for noise reduction and have active sound-spike cancellation.

Caller ID is supported, and the headsets dock magnetically to recharge. The two new wireless systems will be available in the US from September, priced from $199.

If having your run of the mill Bluetooth headset is not enough for you, then you might be interested in the BT2080 from Jabra, which actually features a built-in LED lights for easy battery life and pairing detection.

The whole idea of a Bluetooth headset is to make your life easier by keeping your hands-free to do other things while taking those all-important phone calls. But this latest Jabra headset strives to make your day even less complicated with the addition of an on/off switch that’s separate from the volume and answer controls.

The LED lights positioned on the side of the device also make it easy to see how much battery life is left and if it’s properly paired with your phone. It has an expected battery life of 6-hours for talk time. You can get the Jabra BT2080 in southeast Asia soon and in the U.S. shortly thereafter for $39.

Motorola, Plantronics and Jabra have offered to settle in a class action lawsuit that accused them of insufficiently warning of the possible impact Bluetooth headsets could have on a user’s hearing. Since the number of headset users are so great, however, the financial compensation – $100,000 – is going to hearing-loss related charities; the real winners are the lawyers, who will likely take in excess of $2m.

“Class Counsel will ask the court for up to $800,000 in attorneys’ fees and up to $38,000 for reimbursement of documented expenses. Class Counsel will also request up to $12,000 total for the Class Representatives, who helped the lawyers on behalf of the whole Class. The Court may award less than these amounts. Defendants will separately pay the fees and expenses the Court orders. These payments will not reduce the amount Defendants will donate to charity.

Defendants will also separately pay the costs to provide notice to the Class and administer the Proposed Settlement, up to $1.2 million. If those costs are less than $1.2 million, Class Counsel may request reimbursement for additional documented expenses up to $12,000, which Defendants will pay upon approval by the Court.” Settlement agreement

A likely result of the case will be a new spate of warning labels and stickers on any Bluetooth headset, informing customers that there might be a risk to hearing from using them. We say might, as even the class action suit wasn’t entirely sure whether the risk was present: as the legalese says, the Bluetooth headsets “create a risk of hearing loss and that Defendants acted wrongfully when they did not warn consumers of the risk (if it exists).”

Motorola, Jabra and Plantronics are settling out of court in preference to a full – and potentially far more expensive – trial, but are not admitting that their products present a risk. Meanwhile the consumers carry on regardless, have another label to ignore, and seven law firms take another step toward their Christmas bonus.

Video demo after the cut

Sound quality seemed reasonable – as much as we could tell from the noisy show floor – but we’ll need to spend more time with the Jabra HALO to see if the company’s inclusion of Zirene Power Bass makes a significant difference. Still, they’re comfortable and flexible: a 3.5mm input and supplied cable means you can still use the HALO headset with non-Bluetooth mediaplayers. It’ll go on sale on May 1st, with an MRSP of $129.99.

As for the Jabra SP200, it’s surprisingly small and the controls are as straightforward as you’d want for an entry-level speakerphone. The huge volume dial is a nice touch, as is the microUSB connector for recharging. The Jabra SP200 speakerphone is available now with an MRSP of $59.99. More details on both in the video.

The Jabra HALO Stereo Headset supports hands-free calls as well as music, and has touch-sensors for play/pause and volume control. Jabra have purposefully avoided using flashing lights; the Bluetooth pairing and battery indicators are on the inside of the headband. It’s also possible to plug in a standard headphone cable and use the HALO as a wired set.

As for the Jabra SP200, that has a 10hr talktime/23 day standby battery, and DSP for cutting out background noise. There’s also auto pairing, voice dialing and eco-cancellation, and the SP200 supports full duplex audio and both the headset and hands-free Bluetooth profiles.

The Jabra HALO Stereo Headset will be available in May 2009, priced at $129.99. The Jabra SP200 Speakerphone will be available this month, April 2009, priced at $59.99.
