Intel has officially launched its 3rd-gen Core processor line-up, based on 22nm Ivy Bridge architecture, for a 20-percent performance boost while using 20-percent less power than last-gen Sandy Bridge chips. The new Core chips are built using 3D Tri-Gate transistor architecture, and include a new on-processor HD Graphics 4000 GPU for up to twice the HD media and 3D graphics performance. Finally, there are new security features for home and enterprise users.

17-inch MacBook Pro faces death this year claims analyst
Apple will ditch its 17-inch MacBook Pro in 2012, analysts have predicted, trimming the company's Mac line-up as it chases an Air-style ultraportable refresh. Shipments of the largest notebook, currently priced from $2,499, have slumped, KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo cites in support of his claims, "in order to maintain a lean product line strategy."

Intel 3rd-gen Core Ivy Bridge processors launch today
Intel's new Ivy Bridge third-gen Core processors have been officially detailed, beginning with quadcore assault on the high-end laptop and desktop market, and with dualcore and ultrabook versions following this spring. Thirteen new chips are in the initial line-up, Intel told the BBC, built on 22nm processes using 3D Tri-Gate transistors for what the company claims will be significant performance increases along with a reduction in power consumption.

Lenovo roadmap leaks Ivy Bridge laptops on June 5
Although Intel hasn't announced yet when exactly it's next-gen 22nm Ivy Bridge-based processors will be hitting the market, rumors suggest the release is just around the corner. Now a leaked Lenovo product roadmap further pinpoints that the laptop implementation called Chief River will be available by at least June 5, when Lenovo is expecting to see its first Ivy Bridge laptops go on sale.

Intel VP confirms Retina support in Ivy Bridge
During the Intel Developer Forum yesterday, the company predicted that pixel-dense displays will become mainstream by 2013 in devices ranging from smartphones to desktop computers.
