IN Media !ROFL adds Android to IP set top box

Remember the bizarrely named IN Media !ROFL set-top box from a few months back?  The company has just announced that they're using Android with the IP STB, apparently including Android Market access so that users will be able to download applications and games and play them on their HDTV.  Details are scarce, but IN Media also says they support cloud-based streaming from online storage, together with video-on-demand through services like Netflix and Blockbuster. Sky planning dish-free IPTV Sky+ service

It used to be straightforward: satellite TV, like that from Sky, comes via a satellite dish, and cable comes via cable.  Now, according to some leaked documents from Sky UK, it seems things might not be quite so clean-cut anymore.  TrustedReviews have heard that Sky UK are ramping up to offer their Sky+ service "through a new set top box supplied by Sky connected to your Freeview aerial and broadband connection", that would use IPTV distribution rather than the traditional dish. LG add VUDU 1080p on-demand movies to NetCast HDTVs

VUDU have announced that they have partnered with LG to put their on-demand IPTV system into the latter's HDTVs.  Rather than demanding a separate VUDU box, the LG "NetCast" range of TVs will be able to access on-demand rental or purchase of HD and 1080p Full HD titles, with a system that VUDU promise will see no stuttering or buffering delays.   Read The Full Story

Kahilo are hoping to drum up enough interest in their Linux-based KU860 convertible UMPC for someone to buy a few dozen crates and slap a company logo on them; the OEM is offering this 7-inch WXGA touchscreen device for bulk orders. Running a 1.2GHz VIA C7-M processor, 1GB of RAM and up to a 60GB hard-drive, it also includes GPS for the navigationally-challenged. AT&T U-verse Total Home DVR upgrade adds whole-house HD

AT&T has unveiled the latest update to their U-verse IP system, Total Home DVR.  The system will allow the playback of recorded content – in standard and high-definition – not only on a U-verse DVR but up to seven connected TVs.  Playback can follow viewers around the house, pausing on one screen and resuming it on another, or alternatively multiple, independent viewings can be watched on separate TVs.
