Apple testing Nexus Tablet competitor in iPad mini

, Apr 6th 2012 Discuss [4]

This week there's been a bit of speculation surrounding the miniature, perhaps half-sized tablet Apple may or may not be working on behind the scenes. Earlier this week we heard Daring Fireball's John Gruber mention that a 7.85-inch model of the Apple tablet is currently in testing labs, though whether or not it would actually be considered for release seemed a different matter entirely. Now that Google Nexus Tablet rumors have caught fire again, is it time for Apple to get serious about tackling the mid-sized market? Read The Full Story

iPod Nano Touch concept gets skinny

Designer Enrico Penello is known for his conceptual work in the industrial design world - and not least of all this week for his undeniably interesting Apple iPod Nano Touch design. What we're looking at here is a different direction entirely for the iPod, taking the height of one model and adding the touchscreen of another. Would such a design give Apple designers pause, or would they have a heart attack at the imperfect aspect ratio? Read The Full Story

Is Apple really in half of US homes?

With Apple rocketing in the phone, computing and tablet segments, exactly how many pieces of shiny Cupertino hardware are actually in use is a good question: according to new research (and some perhaps shaky extrapolation) half of American homes have at least one Apple device. The average US home has 1.6 Apple devices, according to a survey by CNBC and Hart Research Associates, with 9-percent owning five or more. However, it's worth noting that just 836 people were questioned. Read The Full Story

Apple products in half of all US homes

, Mar 28th 2012 Discuss [1]

Despite talks of tough economic times, Apple's products, which usually come with premium price tags, continue to be popular in American households. According to a CNBC survey, half of the households in the US own at least one Apple product, be that an iPod shuffle or a full blown Mac desktop computer. This ratio translates to about 55 million homes. Read The Full Story

Stop crying about the iPad naming conventions

The 3rd generation iPad does not have a new name, but neither does the new MacBook Pro, the Apple TV, or the iMac – go home and cry about it. So called “experts” have been weighing in so heavily over the past 24 hours over the “mistake” made by those responsible for naming the newest iPad that you’d think they were stock owners in the company, all of this saying only one thing to your humble narrator: they’re mad that they can’t pigeonhole the product as easily as they could before. What I’m contending here is that not only does it make perfect sense that Apple cut out the numbering system from the newest model iPad in this generation, they should have done it right from the start.

Tim Cook assures us he’ll keep Apple unique

, Feb 14th 2012 Discuss [0]

Today in an interview / keynote speech with investors at the Goldman Sachs Technology and Internet Conference 2012, Tim Cook answered many questions on Apple, including on his position in the company. What Cook has done and will do in the very near future was spoken about and explained in short, Cook coming across very much as the man who’s not only in charge of Apple, but in love with its culture as well. Cook would not, as it said “permit the slow undoing of it” simply because that wasn’t a possibility because Apple is a company he believes in so deeply.

Do You Still Need An iPod?

iPod Nano 7G with camera leaked in photos

Not one whole heck of a lot of news is written or read these days about the iPad Nano, one of the last devices to have been designed and released by Apple since their attention switched to purely iPhone and iPad in that sized market. But what we’ve got here appears very much to be an upgrade to the iPod Nano line, and the folks at Apple.pro have a collection of photos which depict it having a 1.3-megapixel camera! This may seem to the average citizen to be a fool’s errand as the current iPod nano has a clip on the back that would block and camera attempts – but lo! There it is!

Apple Q1 2012 sales point to monster future for iPhone, death of iPod

, Jan 24th 2012 Discuss [2]

There’s a lot to be said about the Q1 2012 sales report from Apple today, but one point stands out like a beacon: with 37,044,000 units and 24,417,000,000 (that’s $24 billion) in revenue from iPhone and related products and services. This is compared to the units and revenue from the same category during Q4 of 2011 which ads up to 16,235,000 units and 10,468,000,000 in revenue – this means that Apple has more than DOUBLED their units and revenue in one quarter. Of course this includes the holiday season once Apple’s Q1 started, so it’s not that big a deal, right?

The Zen of Steve Jobs graphic novel available this week

, Jan 4th 2012 Discuss [8]

There's a book out there, ladies and gentlemen, that some might call a comic, but others will know better as a graphic novel, that contains information about the years between when Steve Jobs was fired from Apple leading up to when it rejoined the collective. What we've got here is a based on a true story (though not entirely true word-for-word) account of those years in graphic form, as compiled and created by a set of folks who took vast amounts of time speaking with the people closest to Jobs and the people he worked with during that time. In this book you'll gain a better understanding of what led Jobs to create, for example, the iPod wheel. Read The Full Story
