If we said that there was a market for iPhone and iPod products, we know it’d be the understatement of the century. And while there’s all sorts of different models out there, sometimes it’s better to just get back to the basics, and shell out some speakers that look like, well, speakers. Of course, it doesn’t hurt to make them pretty cool, too. Pioneer has gone ahead and outed their new line of bookshelf speakers, which have actually been in Europe for about a week now.

iPod nano 5G gets teardown

If there’s one thing you can count on – beyond third-party accessories – it’s that as soon as a new iPod hits the shelves, it’ll be torn down to its component parts.  iFixit have already begun to strip the camera-toting iPod nano 5G out of its glossy shell and down to bare circuit-boards, and even if chip codes and DACs mean nothing to you there’s something scandalously exciting about watching it happen.

Let’s be clear – if you don’t like shiny then you probably won’t be too keen on Apple’s special edition iPod shuffle.  Packing the same 4GB capacity of the standard top-spec shuffle, but with a newly polished stainless steel casing, the new PMP is limited to sales through Apple Stores.

Now that Apple’s latest event has come to an end, we can go ahead and collect ourselves, and go over everything we’ve announced. And sure, there are changes to the iPod lines that definitely deserve attention, but we can’t forget about iTunes now can we? After all, it basically started it all, and it’s about time the online giant got a major upgrade. And let’s just say that iTunes 9 fits the bill perfectly, and it is a welcomed addition to the Apple family.

Apple’s last-remaining hard-drive based PMP, the iPod classic, has also had a quiet upgrade today, with the company throwing out the 120GB of the previous version and slotting in 160GB instead.  The iPod classic remains the same size as previously, though, together with keeping the same price tag.

Apple have unveiled the latest incarnation of the iPod shuffle, and they’ve managed to bring the entry-price down to just $59 for the 2GB model and $79 for the 4GB.  There’s also a new, special edition version with a polished stainless steel casing, priced at $99 for 4GB.

Apple have announced a new iPod nano, and as predicted it includes a video camera.  The new iPod nano fifth-generation has a larger, 2.2-inch display and a new polished anodyzed aluminum casing, and as well as the camera the Cupertino company have managed to squeeze in an FM radio, pedometer with Nike support, speaker and microphone.

It’s coming up to the final hour before Apple’s “It’s Only Rock and Roll” iPod event kicks off in San Francicso, and we’re waiting to get started on our liveblog over at http://live.slashgear.com/ From the latest rumors and leaks, however, it sounds like things inside the event are probably more hectic than outside: according to some last-minute news passed to Apple Insider, there’s a possibility that the expected iPod touch refresh may not, in fact, get a launch today.
