Now that Apple’s latest event has come to an end, we can go ahead and collect ourselves, and go over everything we’ve announced. And sure, there are changes to the iPod lines that definitely deserve attention, but we can’t forget about iTunes now can we? After all, it basically started it all, and it’s about time the online giant got a major upgrade. And let’s just say that iTunes 9 fits the bill perfectly, and it is a welcomed addition to the Apple family.

Apple announced a new range of iPod touch models today, though contrary to initial expectations there was no integrated camera as seen on the iPod nano.  Instead, the most movement has been seen in pricing, storage and speed, with the new line-up starting at Apple’s “magic price point” of $199 for the 8GB iPod touch.

It’s coming up to the final hour before Apple’s “It’s Only Rock and Roll” iPod event kicks off in San Francicso, and we’re waiting to get started on our liveblog over at http://live.slashgear.com/ From the latest rumors and leaks, however, it sounds like things inside the event are probably more hectic than outside: according to some last-minute news passed to Apple Insider, there’s a possibility that the expected iPod touch refresh may not, in fact, get a launch today.

It’s always those darned case manufacturers giving things away.  Latest to scoop Apple to their own announcement is Cygnett, who have thrown up product pages for both iPod touch G3 and iPod nano G5 models; the same models we’re expecting Apple to unveil later today.  The iPod touch G3 case has a cut-out for the rumored camera, while the iPod nano G5 images show a much-elongated display.

For a moment, things were going so well.  Manomio’s Commodore 64 emulator for iPhone and iPod touch had – despite incurring the wrath of Apple’s App Store gatekeepers back in June – managed to sneak through on a second attempt, only to be yanked once again in the early hours.

We’re ramping up to run our usual liveblog of the Apple iPod event tomorrow in San Francisco – join us at 10am PST on Wednesday 9th at http://live.slashgear.com for all the news, as it’s announced – but could the company’s camera-toting iPods be conspicuous by their absence?  According to Apple Insider, “technical difficulties” with the 3.2-megapixel camera modules believed to be integrated into the next-generation iPod touch, iPod nano and, potentially, iPod classic will see them delayed.

iphone spotifySpotify have released both their iPhone and Android mobile apps, a little over a week after Apple approved it in late August.  Premium subscribers to the streaming music service will now be able to access Spotify’s catalog on their iPhone, iPod touch, or any of the Android devices currently available.  The app also supports offline playback, where tracks are cached in the background and thus can be played back even when there is no network connection, particularly useful for iPod touch owners.

Unlike streaming radio, Spotify allows users to search from their database of tracks and put together custom playlists.  The desktop version of the service has both ad-supported free and paid “premium” versions (which do not have adverts), but only the latter group will be able to use the mobile client.
