iPhone OS market share still dwarfs Android claims Nielsen

Research analysts Nielsen have released their latest smartphone market share report, covering the first quarter of 2010, and in terms of growth only iPhone OS and Android are really shining.  Both platforms climbed 2 points quarter-on-quarter, though the iPhone still holds a significant lead over its rival, comprising 28-percent of the smartphone market compared to Android's 9-percent.  The report follows earlier, contested figures from NPD which suggested Android had overtaken iPhone OS in the US market. AT&T iPhone 3G “out of stock” ahead of iPhone HD debut

It seems the days are finally numbered for the iPhone 3G, at least in the US, with an internal AT&T memo leaking out to BGR that confirms the smartphone is officially out of stock.  New customers, the memo explains, should be directed to the iPhone 3GS, as AT&T "do no know when more iPhone 3G 8GB will arrive." Verizon: no Apple support “in the immediate future” [Video]

On the one hand you've got the persistent rumors that Verizon is looking to pick up the iPhone and are even testing the iPad right now; on the other you've got the carrier's constant protests.  Speaking at D8, Verizon spokesperson John Johnson told Beet.TV that the carrier has no plans for supporting Apple's devices "in the immediate future" and then segues quickly into pushing their Android phones. iPhone HD to use 320dpi 960 x 640 IPS display?

Rumors have been swirling since before the first leaked handsets that the fourth-generation iPhone HD would pack a significantly higher resolution display than either the existing 3GS or its smartphone rivals, and it looks like that could be the case.  Czech site superiphone.cz managed to acquire an iPhone HD display panel and slapped it under a microscope so as to count up exactly how many pixels there are: they reckon it is indeed 960 x 640 resolution. We had brought you a story earlier today, about a particular analyst out there who believed, pretty strongly, that Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft, would actually be making an appearance at this year's WWDC. You know, the one that's built around Apple's developer community, and where they're likely to announce the next iPhone. Apparently Ballmer was going to show up to announce something like Silverlight on the iPhone, or to announce iPhone OS and Mac development tools in Visual Studio 2010.
