iPhone 5S and “Light” model schematics tipped by case maker

This year has seen it's fair share of Apple iPhone 5S and "budget" iPhone tips and rumors, and as it always seems to go, close to a release, case-makers are ramping up efforts to make their accessories hit the market first. Even though the next-generation iPhone (or iPhones) are not yet confirmed by Apple as such, this week a set of images has been pushed to the public from a set of sources that say they've got the real deal.

iOS Mobile Hotspot crackable in 50s if you stick to defaults

iOS Mobile Hotspot crackable in 50s if you stick to defaults

iPhone and iPad users who use their iOS device to share a 3G/4G connection are being advised to change the default Mobile Hotspot password, after researchers showed it was possible to crack them in under sixty seconds. Apple supplies mobile hotspot users with a preconfigured password when they enable the feature, but the default is generated from a limited number of dictionary words, researchers at the University of Erlangen in Germany discovered. With some GPU-accelerated brute-force shuffling, the team managed to break into any iOS hotspot using the default password within 50s.

Huawei Ascend P6 vs iPhone 5: do similarities go just skin deep?

Huawei Ascend P6 vs iPhone 5: do similarities go just skin deep?

With the release of the first teaser images of the Huawei Ascend P6, it was instantly apparent that the manufacturer was gunning for the successful hardware build of the iPhone 5. This device had the same metal rim, the same glass up front, and the same metal back - it was - and is - even working with what appears to be the same brushed metal components. But what you're not seeing on the surface is this: even in an iPhone-dominated landscape, a brand line Huawei can one-up the competition.

iPhone 5S display hardware leaks aside inner components

iPhone 5S display hardware leaks aside inner components

This afternoon it would appear that two rather key components to a next-generation Apple device have surfaced, and while neither piece of architecture will be able to be verified as such, it would seem that these two may fit together with one another, if nothing else. It's being suggested by MacRumors that these two components may be pieces of the iPhone 5S. It's also noted that, with the hardware shown here, the two do appear to be able to latch on to one another.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown iOS game aims to bring near-full PC experience

If you played XCOM: Enemy Unknown earlier this year on your high-powered gaming PC, you may have noticed the user interface and the top-to-bottom playability to seem a bit more expansive than a simple desktop setup would suggest. iPhone game controller pad for iOS 7 leaks

Apple is adding physical game controller support in iOS7, and the first gamepad hardware for the iPhone has apparently been caught in the wild. The Logitech-made snap-on gadget is "large enough to fit an iPhone 5" Kotaku says, and indeed has a Lightning connector meaning those with older versions of Apple's handset will either have to upgrade or hope Logitech and others tipped to join in the hardware push will release versions with the older 30-pin connector.

iOS 7 device compatibility chart unveils iPad aesthetics

iOS 7 device compatibility chart unveils iPad aesthetics

As the iOS 7 user interface was revealed this month, users made quick assumptions about what the next-generation software would look like on the tablets of the Apple mobile family. As the software was, at first, only shown on the iPhone 5 during Apple's developers conference WWDC 2013, it became rather quickly an often, asked question: what would iOS 7 look like on devices Apple guaranteed would be attaching it to? Today, Apple answered this question.

Galaxy S4 Zoom vs Galaxy Camera vs iPhone 5 vs Nokia 808 hardware photos leak

It would appear that someone in China has gotten their hands on the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom, a smartphone/camera hybrid unveiled earlier this month and set to be shown to the press in full on the 20th of this month. What they've done - like any good tech reporter with every single phone in the world in their drawer would - is to take a few comparison photos of the Galaxy S4 Zoom alongside some of the most notable photo-taking pocketables of the day: the Samsung Galaxy Camera (original), Nokia 808 PureView, and the iPhone 5.
