iPad mini 2 in Gold: slate appears with Touch ID

All the way upstream in the wild west (or Wild East, if you prefer) of secondhand parts stores sourced from what's supposedly Apple's own assembly line appears a Gold colored iPad mini 2. This device follows with the release of the iPhone 5s in Gold and the suggestion that the iPad's 5th generation release will kick out the Gold as well. Here a set of up-close photos also suggest that this model will be released with Touch ID - aka the fingerprint sensor delivered with the iPhone 5s as well.

Apple RED contributions applauded by Bono as “leading the crew”

When you've got a company that sells products as successfully as Apple, there's a good chance a group like RED comes knocking at your door at some point or another. For Apple, that time came quite a few years ago - and here in 2013, RED spokesperson Bono has given Apple a round of applause on raising "over $65 million" in the group's efforts to fight AIDS. Bono thanked the company at the 2013 edition of the Clinton Global Initiative this week.

iOS 7.0.2 out now: Lockscreen bypass fixed

iOS 7.0.2 out now: Lockscreen bypass fixed

Just days after the first release of iOS 7, 7.0 that is, the folks at Apple saw some intrepid explorers bypass the basic lockscreen security of the software. Today the fix is in - iOS 7.0.2 is available for iOS devices of all kinds - all those that could use iOS 7 in the first place, that is - complete with a newly refreshed bit of security as its headline change. This version of iOS will ring in at 17.4MB and should be available to everyone by the end of the day.

iPad 5 in Space Gray and Classic Silver: three tones in all

iPad 5 in Space Gray and Classic Silver: three tones in all

You'll find the same clues appearing for the iPad's 5th generation release as we saw with the iPhone 5s this week, with parts from upstream coming on in several tones. What you're seeing here is a collection of parts acquired from the secondhand repair and replacement market in China, coming through the likes of Sonny Dickson, a fellow that's appeared quite a few times over the past several weeks and months. Here you'll find the next-generation iPad coming in with the look and feel of the first-generation iPad mini, as well.

iPad mini 2 Space Gray edition appears in shell photos

iPad mini 2 Space Gray edition appears in shell photos

It would appear that the off-the-line leaks of Apple mobile device parts will not be ending with the release of the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c, as evidenced today by what very much appears to be the iPad mini 2. While we've heard little solid information on what the insides of the iPad mini 2 will be consisting of, it's been suggested - and pictured - more than once that this iteration of the tablet will be coming in with essentially the same look on the outside. Today it looks as though one significant change will be made in the hull: the addition of a "Space Gray" option.

iOS 7 downgrades remain available as iOS 6 is ushered out [UPDATE]

iOS 7 downgrades remain available as iOS 6 is ushered out [UPDATE]

As with all upgrades to a new operating system on the device you use most during the day, with iOS 7 there's a set of features not all iPhone users are going to like. Lucky you, there's a way to switch quite a few (if not nearly all) of the odds and ends back off, as it were, back to the way they were in iOS 6 before iOS 7 turned the iPhone on its head - see our iOS 7 review if you've not already. While users can still (for now) go through the steps to actually resetting their smartphone back to factory settings to get iOS 6, they'll still eventually (probably) be coerced into moving to iOS 7 anyway - for them, toggles are in place.

iOS 7 web usage tops 18% in first day, beats iOS 6 record

This year's first day of adoption for Apple's iOS 7 has, according to Chitika, hit just over 18% in just under 24 hours since release. In the first day of adoption for iOS 6 last year - one year ago nearly to the day, as it were - web usage for Apple's newest mobile operating system hit just over 16%, making this - at least by one metric - Apple's most successful upgrade of its mobile OS to date. Meanwhile analytics from Mixpanel suggest that iOS 7 adoption may itself be at a cool 30% in just under a day as well.

Kanex Multi-Sync wireless keyboard brings quick-switch with Bluetooth 3.0

While there's no reason to believe that the newest keyboard device from Kanex wouldn't work with any and all Bluetooth 3.0-compatible devices, they've aimed directly at the Apple world here in the week of this accessory's launch. The Kanex Multi-Sync Keyboard works with the iPhone, iPad, iMac, and any other machine (with Bluetooth 3.0 or higher) you think would match up nicely. You've got a full Apple-esque design to the board as well as Bluetooth switching buttons - that means you can press one button for device A, then switch to device B or C with a press of one of your total of three buttons.

iPad 5 in Gold: three color SIM trays appear in repair shops

iPad 5 in Gold: three color SIM trays appear in repair shops

Now that the iPhone 5s has been unveiled, the 5th generation iPad is up for the big leaks show, appearing this week with three different color SIM card trays. These parts appear to be popping up in a manner not unlike the parts we saw earlier this year that indicated the Gold iPhone 5s as well as what we'd assumed was Gunmetal - that turned out to be called Space Gray. Now the iPad 5's SIM trays are showing up in the same three tones: Gold, Space Gray, and White (silver for white, that is).

iPod touch, nano, shuffle “Space Gray” means no Autumn reboot

iPod touch, nano, shuffle “Space Gray” means no Autumn reboot

It would appear that a reboot of each of the iPod devices graced with color have been given a shade change this week thanks to the iPhone 5s. The iPod touch, iPod nano, and iPod shuffle have been given "Space Gray" to match the iPhone 5s' newest tone. This suggests that while past years have seen a music-centric event reboot the likes of the iPod touch and/or the iPod nano or shuffle, we may see just the iPad and iPad mini given a new generation of hardware.
