Of course, with the iPad Mini rumored to be revealed sometime next month, that probably isn't going to come as a shock to most people. After all, Apple's probably expecting this new tablet to fly off the shelves like every other iDevice before it, so it needs to be ready. Read The Full Story

SlashGear Evening Wrap-Up: September 7, 2012

, Sep 7th 2012 Discuss [0]

Friday is here once again, marking the beginning of the weekend. We need it too - we were traveling all around the country from press event to press event this week. Today, no such event took place, but that doesn't mean there was a lack of noteworthy news. There were tons of iPhone 5 rumors and news today, starting with the rumor that we might see one or two iPod lines get updated at Apple's upcoming press event. Speaking of that press event, Apple has started to prepare the Yerba Buena Center for its September 12 conference, and today we were told that the pricing structure of one of the iPhone 5's models might be similar to that of the iPhone 4S. Apple prepping Yerba Buena Center for iPhone 5 reveal

, Sep 7th 2012 Discuss [0]

The fact that Apple is holding a media event on September 12 has been all over the place lately, and as we close in on the date, anticipation is beginning to build. Here's something that won't help at all with that anticipation: Apple has started prepping the Yerba Buena Center ahead of the event, with 9to5Mac and Macstories both posting pictures of the exterior and interior of the building. Apple clearly wants to make its presence known on September 12, but given the Apple events of years past, we really wouldn't expect any less. Read The Full Story

iPad mini backplate appears in HD photos

, Sep 7th 2012 Discuss [0]

The next-generation iPad mini, a device tipped to work with what's essentially iPad 2 specifications save it's smaller display, has appeared in several high-definition photos this week. The device appears here from Tech163 as a slightly more blunt version of the larger iPad 3rd generation device on the market today, including here a new dock connector hole and two sets of machine-drilled speaker holes. This device's docking port is likely matching that of the rumored 9-pin connector set for the iPhone 5. Read The Full Story

Apple slashes Samsung’s iPhone 5 involvement says supply chain

Samsung's memory and displays will be absent from the first batch of Apple's new iPhone, insiders claim, after pricing and legal disagreements saw the Cupertino firm slash orders from its long-time rival. Patent fight tensions and arguments over costs have led to a stalemate of sorts, insiders tell Reuters and Bloomberg, though Apple is also believed to be working to reduce its reliance on any one individual company. However, Apple hasn't been able to entirely oust Samsung from its iPhone 5 supply chain: the processor powering the new smartphone will apparently still be produced by the South Korean firm. iPad Mini appears in Apple code as iPad 2 redux

, Aug 31st 2012 Discuss [0]

Instapaper creator Marco Arment is reporting that he has discovered references to two new iPads in Instapaper's device stats: iPad2,5 and iPad2,6. He's never seen these devices before, and he's thinking that they might be references to the long-rumored iPad Mini. Of course, he also points out that these entries could have been faked by hackers, but he doesn't think that's likely, and makes the case for the iPad Mini pretty well. Read The Full Story

SlashGear Evening Wrap-Up: August 27, 2012

, Aug 27th 2012 Discuss [0]

We've officially entered the final week in August, which means that the autumn months are right around the corner. Today, Apple delivered a list of 8 Samsung devices it would like to see banned in the US, and the Galaxy S II - which is still a popular phone for Samsung - attracted the lion's share of the attention. We caught a glimpse of the amended verdict form from the trial today, and Google made a rather interesting statement on the outcome of the suit. Unsurprisingly, Samsung's stock took a stumble today, while the stock of some other phone manufacturers went up. Read The Full Story
