iPad 5 panel leak tips iPad mini-style slim bezels

An image supposedly showing the front panel of the next full-sized iPad has emerged, lending weight to rumors that Apple will continue with the thinner bezels of the iPad mini. The front glass and button section shared by Apple.pro is obviously not confirmed as an official part, but would at least fit in with speculation that the fifth-gen iOS tablet's side bezels will be trimmed dramatically.

Retina iPad mini update coming quick says analyst, chip boost in 2014

It would appear that the analysts at NPD DisplaySearch have run the numbers and decided that the iPad mini with full retina-quality display is well on its way. They've made it clear in their most recent report that the iPad mini's first big update will be appearing in the third quarter of 2013, if all goes well, with another update soon after. The second update, says NPD, will include not only a higher-definition display than the first edition - it'll have a boosted mobile processor under the hood, as well.

Low-cost iPhone in Apple’s future as iPad mini succeeds

Low-cost iPhone in Apple’s future as iPad mini succeeds

As the next release from Apple approaches after the most recent change in Apple's approach with a smaller-sized iPad in the iPad mini, analysts have suggested that a lower-cost iPhone has become inevitable. What Mark Moskowitz and Gokul Hariharan of J.P. Morgan have suggested this week is Apple's approach toward a segment in the market hit by the iPad mini since its release last year. As the iPad mini took the middle-market between the $199 tablets and the $499 tablets popular last year at this time, so too will Apple move in on the mass market once more with a new lower-cost iPhone.

USPTO rescinds original objections to iPad mini trademark

USPTO rescinds original objections to iPad mini trademark

Last Sunday, we discovered that the United States Patent and Trademark Office denied Apple its request for an iPad mini trademark. The main reason for doing so was because the examiner believed the term "mini" to be "merely descriptive" of Apple's iPad, and did not warrant a trademark. In order for Apple to receive its trademark, we believed that it would have had to appeal the decision with some necessary amendments, but now it seems like it didn't need to do much at all.

No Joke: Apple must resubmit “iPad mini” trademark application

This week the folks at the United States Patent and Trademark Office have denied Apple's first application for trademarking the term "iPad mini". As it's noted in the letter that was originally sent out back near the end of January, made public this week, the USPTO has re-stated that the "i" as well as the "Pad" bits of the application are fine, while the "mini" bit of the show needs to be a bit more descriptive. And the April Fools Jokes commence.

Apple gets denied the iPad Mini trademark

Apple gets denied the iPad Mini trademark

Apple has been denied the trademark for its iPad Mini devices in the U.S. The United States Patent and Trademark Office denied Apple's application because it says that the word "Mini" is "merely descriptive" of Apple's iPad. The reviewer of the application stated, "the applied-for mark merely describes a feature or characteristic of the applicant's goods." Apple is able to appeal the decision, however, and will most likely be granted the trademark as long as it addresses all of the reasons why the application was denied.

Department of Defense to buy more than 650,000 iOS devices say sources

Things aren't looking so great for Blackberry, if information provided to Electronista is to be believed. Back in October, word had surfaced that the Pentagon would be taking in iOS and Android devices on top of Blackberry, which has been a staple platform for many government agencies. Last month, we reported that the Pentagon would be rolling out 100,000 of the devices by next year, but it would seem things have changed, with an order of over 650,000 iOS devices pending.
