iPhone 5c 8GB and iPad 2 replacement: why moving sideways works

iPhone 5c 8GB and iPad 2 replacement: why moving sideways works

This week Apple has made a couple of moves in their iPad and iPhone collections available on the market that might not make a lot of sense to consumers. For the iPhone, they’ve added an iPhone 5c that works with 8GB of internal storage space - the previous smallest model was 16GB. For the iPad, they’ve gotten rid of the iPad 2 (the last model available with a 30-pin connector), replacing it with the iPad 4 (aka iPad with Retina Display and Lightning connector).

iPad mini 2 Space Gray edition appears in shell photos

iPad mini 2 Space Gray edition appears in shell photos

It would appear that the off-the-line leaks of Apple mobile device parts will not be ending with the release of the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c, as evidenced today by what very much appears to be the iPad mini 2. While we've heard little solid information on what the insides of the iPad mini 2 will be consisting of, it's been suggested - and pictured - more than once that this iteration of the tablet will be coming in with essentially the same look on the outside. Today it looks as though one significant change will be made in the hull: the addition of a "Space Gray" option.

iPad mini 2 housing leaks aside iPad 5

iPad mini 2 housing leaks aside iPad 5

Though the changes appear to be few, the next-generation casings for both the iPad 5 and the iPad mini 2 appear to be hitting the factory floor with bits and pieces all their own. This double dose of Apple hardware - if it does indeed prove to be legitimate, shows the iPad family to be making a few aesthetic changes while it improves its innards - innards which we've been hypothesizing are getting incremental updates this Fall. The first of these changes comes in the Apple logo.

iPad 5 schematics leak with iPad mini-size sides

iPad 5 schematics leak with iPad mini-size sides

The fifth generation full-sized iPad appears to be popping up this week for the first time in schematics - not the average leak vehicle, to be sure. Information included in this set of plans suggests that the upcoming iPad model will take on many of the characteristics of the iPad mini, especially those at the edges of the machine, slighter body and all. This machine would be ever-so-slightly less tall and wide than that current-generation iPad and would be about 3/4 the size in thickness.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown iOS game aims to bring near-full PC experience

If you played XCOM: Enemy Unknown earlier this year on your high-powered gaming PC, you may have noticed the user interface and the top-to-bottom playability to seem a bit more expansive than a simple desktop setup would suggest. What's going on now is that folks behind the game are, indeed, expanding the game beyond its original borders: mobile style. Here on June 20th, XCOM: Enemy Unknown will be appearing on iOS devices of many types.

Supposed iPad 5 cases found in Hong Kong

Now that the fourth-generation iPad has been around for several months, it's high time we had some rumors and tips surrounding the generation that's up next! The iPad 5 case mold that we're seeing today has been passed on to some case-makers who suggest that this iteration of the tablet will have a 9.7-inch display as it's had before, but that its body will be slimmer with a smaller bezel - strange, isn't it?

iPad 5 photos appear with Mini aesthetics

iPad 5 photos appear with Mini aesthetics

Today we've seen confirmation of the iPad 4 being released with a newly massive amount of internal storage as well as, here and now, a new case for the up and coming iPad 5. The "confirmation" bit on the iPad 5 case we're seeing here is more of an assurance from the source which we can't independently confirm, but whose photos imply what's expected either way - a case that matches the iPad mini. With the iPad 5 hitting some time this year and the newly massive iPad 4 being shown today, we must expect that this fifth generation 9.7-inch (standard iPad size) display-toting machine will be appearing closer to October of this year than the previously suggested March.
