iPad dominance dips but Android still playing catch-up

Apple's tablet market-share has dipped but the iPad looks set to continue dominating the segment over the next four years despite the best efforts of Android rivals, according to research firm predictions. The iPad held 54.7-percent of the worldwide tablet market-share in Q4 2011, IDC's figures suggest, down from 61.5-percent in the previous quarter, though those figures disguise the fact that Apple shipped more than 4m units more in Q4. By 2016, meanwhile, the iPad is set to ship 94.7m units per year, for 48-percent of the overall tablet market. Read The Full Story

Should you buy a new iPad or an Android tablet?

, Mar 13th 2012 Discuss [85]

Welcome to the 2012 edition of “which tablet should I purchase this year?” Apple’s new iPad has the resolution and the 4G connection, not to mention a brand new and improved A5X chip with two CPU cores and four GPU cores – is that impressive enough to sway you away from a brand new Android tablet such as the ASUS Transformer Prime? It’s a tablet with rather similar specifications and one whole heck of a lot longer name, not to mention Android’s newest version 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Or is that not what you’re looking for at all? Perhaps Apple is your one and only choice?

, Mar 12th 2012 Discuss [15]

The day is coming soon when the new iPad will be released for the 2012 season, and analysts are racking up their abacuses to the tune of 1 million units sold. The iPad 2 was estimated to have sold 500,000 units over the weekend last year (sales starting on a Friday just like this new unit) with some analysts saying that number did reach 1 million as well.
