iPad Mini appears in Apple code as iPad 2 redux

iPad Mini appears in Apple code as iPad 2 redux

Instapaper creator Marco Arment is reporting that he has discovered references to two new iPads in Instapaper's device stats: iPad2,5 and iPad2,6. He's never seen these devices before, and he's thinking that they might be references to the long-rumored iPad Mini. Of course, he also points out that these entries could have been faked by hackers, but he doesn't think that's likely, and makes the case for the iPad Mini pretty well.

iPad mini rumors reignite over Nexus 7

Google's own-brand entrance into the 7-inch tablet market with the Nexus 7 has refueled speculation about a so-called iPad mini, with Apple expected to face increasing pressure to compete at the tweener size. Rumors of a smaller iPad - which would slot into the mid-point between the existing, 9.7-inch model, and the 3.5-inch iPhone and iPod touch - have circulated for as long as the iPad has been on sale; however, the arrival of the new Nexus 7 running Jelly Bean is arguably the biggest motivator yet for Apple to make good on the heresay.

Samsung has secured a win against Apple in The Hague, with the Dutch court ruling that older iPhones and iPads contravene a 3G patent held by the Korean company. Although Samsung's earlier attempts to have the products - which include the iPad 2 and iPhone 4, though not the latest iPhone 4S and new iPad - blocked from sale were rejected, the company says it will now use this ruling to obtain compensation for the infringement from Apple.
