iPad mini release date and details splatter

, Oct 17th 2012 Discuss [2]

If you're following along with the iPad mini and its imminent release, there are a collection of details you can readily assume to be true - even without Apple revealing the release date, the models, and the specifications in each device. This release will be primarily a filing of a market hole: where there's no tablet in the market other than the iPad to placate the masses addicted to the idea that Apple's solution is best, there will soon be two - or three, depending on how you look at the situation. If you want an iPad that costs less than $399 and you want it soon, you'll only have to wait until November 2nd - if several sources saying the same thing are accurate. Read The Full Story

, Oct 16th 2012 Discuss [4]

Today it’s time to get busy packing for the next big Apple event, set for October 23rd and quite likely to reveal no larger an iPad than a mini. With the iPad mini on peoples’ lips and in their dreams now for several months (or years, for some), it comes as no surprise that the device will be revealed just in time for the holiday season. Now we’ve just got to hypothesize on how many other devices – or device refreshes – will be appearing as well.

Google Maps native app for iOS 6 screenshots leak

, Oct 15th 2012 Discuss [1]

We know a native app for Google Maps is coming to iOS at some point, we just don't know when. The latest rumor is that we'll see it by the end of the year, and hopefully that's true, but we're sort of just taking things with a grain of salt until we get some solid evidence. In the meantime, a couple of screenshots from the upcoming Google Maps app have leaked. Read The Full Story

iPhone 5 appeal unblunted by Apple Maps says research

, Oct 12th 2012 Discuss [3]

Teething problems with Apple Maps failed to blunt mass market enthusiasm for the iPhone 5, new research suggests, with demand significantly higher than ahead of the iPhone 4S. 451 Research and ChangeWave Research surveyed 4,270 consumers in September, and found that those saying they were "very likely" to buy an iPhone 5 were almost double the number of those saying the same thing ahead of its predecessor's release last year. Meanwhile, Windows Phone 8 could "make serious inroads in the smartphone industry" the researchers claim, surprisingly highlighting Samsung as likely to be the manufacturer that benefits the most. Apple quietly turns on iOS 6 iPhone advert tracking

, Oct 12th 2012 Discuss [2]

Apple has quietly enabled a mobile ads tracking system in iOS 6, with unique per-device identifiers that provide advertisers with more user information than ever before. Having blocked developers from using UDID codes - device-specific codes that could be monitored to see if adverts led to app downloads - Apple replaced the unofficial functionality with an official version, IFA/IFDA (Identifier For Advertising) that comes automatically set active, Business Insider reports. Apple and the SBB agree on licensing terms for iconic clock design

, Oct 12th 2012 Discuss [5]

Last month, the Swiss Federal Railway service (SBB) accused Apple of copying their iconic clock design by using it in the iOS 6 Clock application. However, a few days later, we were told that the two companies would be meeting with each other to discuss ways to remedy the issue. Today, Apple has agreed to pay the SBB for use of the clock design. Read The Full Story

iPad mini visualized in bright color renderings

, Oct 9th 2012 Discuss [0]

With rumors abound of an iPad mini device appearing in the Apple lab this season it's only appropriate that high-quality renderings of said device would begin to appear in droves. What we're looking at here is a set of renderings done by designer Martin Hajek, a fellow who is also in the process of making some 3D models of the device for real-world use - for case-makers, of course. For now though it's time to peek at some iterations, including brightly colored backside the same as the 5th generation iPod Touch models just introduced with the iPhone 5. Read The Full Story

Three iPad mistakes the iPad mini needs to fix

Though Apple hasn’t confirmed (nor denied) the existence of the iPad mini, the flurry of excitement surrounding the release of such a device quite recently makes this a perfect time to discuss what features a small iPad could fix. It’s not as if the iPad (the 3rd generation, that is) has a whole lot wrong with it at the moment – it’s far and away the best selling tablet-form device on the market, not to mention the best-selling iPad in the history of the iPad line. But what we’ve got here is the idea of the iPad made more accessible by the masses – the public that, believe it or not, can’t quite figure out why they’d pay $500 USD for a device that they might accidentally drop when they’re getting up from the couch.

iPhone 5 Consumer Reports touts “best [camera] we’ve seen on a smartphone”

It would appear that Consumer Reports' look at the iPhone 5 has yielded a favorable collection of feedback bits, especially in the camera department. Though they do admit that the "phenomenal" 41-megapixel camera they tested on the Nokia 808 had a bit of an edge when it comes to delivering the highest quality shots, the iPhone 5's 8-megapixel camera was called "the best [they'd] seen on a smart phone." Consumer Reports also noted that the iPhone 5 "move[s] up the ranks, surpassing not only the previous iPhone 4S but also a number of other new Android-based smart phones." Read The Full Story
