Apple iOS owns mobile browser share at over 61%

Apple's iOS platform may no longer be the most commonly used in smartphones, but take into account tablets and the platform not only has the most market share but makes up the majority of mobile/tablet web access, according to the latest stats. Browser counters Net Applications have crunched hits on their network of tracking customers and reckon that, as of October 2011, iOS accounted for 61.64-percent of mobile browser use. In comparison, Android languished far behind at 18.9-percent.

iPhone 4S hits 15 new countries November 11

Apple has announced the next batch of countries set to get the iPhone 4S, with Hong Kong, South Korea and Greece among the fifteen new locations where the fifth-gen iOS smartphone will launch. Shoppers in Albania, Armenia, Bulgaria, El Salvador, Greece, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Malta, Montenegro, New Zealand, Panama, Poland, Portugal, Romania and South Korea will see shipments and in-store sales beginning November 11.

Gmail for iPhone coming soon

It's not often that we post about a single app here on SlashGear, so when we do, you know it means a lot to a lot of people - today the news comes down about a real live Gmail app for the iPhone. Word has been passed to publisher MG Siegler that after four years of the iOS platform existing without an official client for Gmail, one will be released, complete with Push Notifications. Word is that the official Gmail app has not only been developed and prepared for final release, it's been submitted to Apple for review for the iTunes App Store.

It appears that a hack for the iPad has brought the iPhone 4S exclusive Siri app to its own screen - though as those who've used Siri before know, it's not going anywhere without a connection to Apple's servers. The same has been true thus far with a hacked port of the Siri voice assistant app as it was added to the iPhone 4, developers finding that there's just something about the iPhone 4S that allows Siri to communicate with the online repository of Siri's intelligence, something holding back each other device that now wants in on the party.

Apple iOS 5 Tech Talk 2011 tour set for 9 cities around the world

Between the months of November and January Apple will be re-birthing their Tech Talk World Tour with an iOS 5 focus, tutorials, talks, and more set to fill the global events. There's a brand new page up at Apple showing off that there will be limited space at each event and that all iOS Developer Program members are more than welcome to attend. Limited space means that Apple will be giving priority entry to those developers who have n app currently available at the iTunes iOS App Store. The first location will be Berlin and will take place on November 2nd, 2011, and the last will be right down at the lower end of the United States in Austin, Texas, on January 23rd, 2012.
