It seems that the launch of iOS 5 and iCloud is soon approaching indeed as Apple has posted a job listing looking for a new engineer in the area of iWork specifically. This person would "build the front and/or back end of scalable web applications,"noting that this will more than likely be an expansion to Apple's already existing iWork.com as well as future iCloud business expansions, all this as the applications continue to be improved for the native Mac OS X Lion as well as mobile versions.

Apple's much anticipated iOS 5 and iCloud, unveiled at WWDC 2011, are promised for a September launch. And with only one month away, Apple has opened the doors to its iCloud.com web interface for developers. The website launch is still in beta and revealed not only several web apps, including Mail, Calendar, and Contacts, as well as an interesting iOS-based interface, but also revealed the storage and pricing options for the upcoming iCloud service.

Today’s edition of the Daily Slash is strewn with rumors and speculation about none other than the fastest selling Android device of all time, that being the Samsung Galaxy S II. I say speculation and rumors because this device is not yet released in the USA, and once it does get here, it could be in basically any shape or form, so watch out! Face Detection API Added To iOS 5
Back during Apple's WWDC 2011, when they highlighted several of the new features to come with Mac OS X Lion, one involved a demo showing face detection technology being used in the popular self-portrait app, Photo Booth. Now, it looks like that face detection technology will likely make its way to iOS 5, where it may be an integral part to many new apps.

Apple “Assistant” voice control system tipped for iPhone 5
Apple’s long-anticipated voice control system for the iPhone and iPad could make its debut in iOS 5 or as an iPhone 5 exclusive later this year, if a leaked screenshot confirming an “Assistant” feature in the platform’s settings is anything to go by. According to that image, passed to 9 to 5 Mac by a trusted source, and the iOS 5 SDK itself, Assistant will use a combination of on-device and cloud processing to recognize natural-speech instructions – such as “Find me more music by U2″ – and be able to use various data sources to present the best set of results.
iOS 5 Beta 4 Released As Apple’s First OTA Update
Apple has just released a fourth beta for its upcoming iOS 5 for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. This beta is the very first from Apple to be available over-the-air (OTA). However, there are already reports that attempts to wirelessy upgrade aren't working. Thankfully, developers can still manually download and install this latest update via Apple's dev channel.

I know that a bunch of iPhone users are waiting anxiously for iOS 5 to hit so they can upgrade. The latest beta 3 version of the OS has a very cool new feature that heavy users of FaceTime will really appreciate. The feature is AirPlay mirroring. Apple TV Bluetooth support discovered in iOS 5
Apple's incoming iOS 5 update could enable the Apple TV's latent Bluetooth connectivity, it's reported, with mention of various pairing options being discovered in the pre-release beta code. The new software will allow the STB to connect to Apple's Bluetooth keyboard, 9 to 5 Mac's tipster spotted, though there's also speculation that it might permit direct pairings with the iPhone, iPad and other peripherals.

Is this the iPhone 5 3D?
We’ve just been tipped by a tipster by the name of fishtoon that the next big iPhone iteration will not only be called iPhone 5, but that it’ll have two cameras on its back. This certainly isn’t the first time we’ve heard of the 3D functionality coming to Apple, as far back as July of 2010 when we heard that the company had hired Poly9 3D experts, inside December of 2010 when we saw Apple patent 3D glasses-free displays and Apple patenting 3D cameras as recently as March 31st, 2011. The most recent talk of 3D in Apple devices calls for a “paradigm shift from the known software-based approaches.” Is this the iPhone 5′s big surprise?
iOS 5 Beta Sets Dev’s iPhone 4 Cable on Fire
A fellow by the name of Gus Pinto has garnered some attention in the early hours of July 8th, 2011, aka this morning with a Tweet that's about to be setting the Apple world on fire: “My charging cable caught on fire while charging my iPhone 4 running iOS5. #fail” Sound's like a hot topic to me, does it to you? What we're to understand here is that this particular developer of iOS-based software was running an early version of the newest Apple mobile operating system, iOS 5 on his iPhone 4, when a simple charge of the device resulted in some "small flames" which of course his iPhone cord could not hardly withstand for long.

iOS 5 slams door on iPhone firmware downgrades
Apple is reportedly preparing to ramp up the preventative measures it uses to prevent iOS device owners from restoring older firmware versions, a system often used as part of jailbreak and/or unlocking hacks. As of iOS 5, the iPhone Dev Team reports, Apple will be stepping up the authentication process on the "APTicket" which deems whether a particular firmware version can be installed on an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch or not. Even those owners who have "saved their blobs" - aka keeping a record of SHSH details for each firmware version - so that they can backtrack to earlier, more hack-friendly iterations of iOS will be affected.
