Forget apps, Apple’s core iPad 2 experience needs to grow up

Shiny shiny, shiny Apple iPad; whiplash tablet in the dark. Forgive the Velvet Underground, but sometimes it really does feel like being a masochist would make the iOS user experience easier to stomach. Yes, Apple's App Store may be the most bulging around, offering hundreds of thousands to titles whether you want to turn your iPad 2 into a recording studio, games machine or digital recipe book. Problem is, there's still no way to turn the iPad into a proper, multi-user, family tablet.

LTE iPhone 5 in time for Holiday 2011: Apple Rumor Roundup

With it looking unlikely that Apple will be bringing the iPhone 5 to WWDC 2011 in early June, speculation has returned to circling how the company's hardware plans may shape up for the rest of the year. Rather than a June launch, there are suggestions that Apple will release the white iPhone 4 later in the spring and use that to prolong the handset's shelf-life until a Q4 2011 refresh. That later date might allow for the inclusion of 4G LTE connectivity, in an attempt to better take on what's expected to be a growing number of LTE-equipped Android devices.

Apple is readying iOS 5.0 for a fall release, a major refresh of the mobile platform and including several cloud-based services including an online "music locker" for streaming content, and a location-tracking system for friends and family. According to TechCrunch, Apple may preview iOS 5.0 at WWDC 2011 in early June, but release it later in the year alongside the iPad 3.
