Dropbox for iOS offers new notifications and a pdf reader

Dropbox for iOS has just been updated to version 2.1, and with it comes a few updates that should make your Dropbox experience much more pleasant. In order to take advantage of this new Dropbox update, your mobile device has to be on iOS 5 or higher. The update is only about 13.8MB, so you won't have to worry about the update taking up all of your space on your iPhone/iPad (if you do, you should probably move some files on over to Dropbox). iOS 6 updates hit 15% of devices in first 24 hours after release

Well this is interesting: it seems that a lot of iDevice owners were quick on the uptake with iOS 6 when the new mobile OS launched yesterday. A new report from analytics firm Chitika (as reported by TechCrunch) says that in the first 24 hours since the release of iOS 6, 15% of iOS users have already downloaded it. That's a significant bump up from the adoption rate of iOS 5, which only managed to arrive on 20% of devices after the first five days. Read The Full Story

Siri comes to jailbroken iOS 5 devices with Spire installer

Since Apple unveiled Siri on the new iPhone 4S there have been users of older iPhone devices that are frothing at the mouth to get their hands on Siri code and bring the virtual assistant to other devices. That had been illegal since the files needed for the port were encrypted by Apple and using them was a copyright violation. With a recent iOS update; those files were left unencrypted. Earlier today we reported that Apple's iOS 5.0.1 update today was the first iPhone 4S firmware build that’s both official and has an accessible encryption key for its main file system, thus meaning that browsing the device’s main file system with your PC is now possible. From a later tweet by iOS hacker @MuscleNerd, it seems that Apple has made a Siri port legally possible with today’s iOS 5.0.1 update by offering open access to system files that were previously encrypted. For those of you on the developer tip, you're more than likely already working on the update that goes by the number 5.1, but for us lowly peasants, there a new build of 5.0.1 out there today for the iPhone 4S that goes by the name 9A406. This update is only one character away from the previous build 9A405 and apparently has somewhat of a hidden yet gigantic change in its guts. Twitter Leak Confirms Apple Partnering with Nuance for iOS Speech Recognition

These screenshots posted on Twitter by @ChronicWire uncovered Nuance settings in the latest internal iOS build. This confirms that speech recognition is on the way, possibly as soon as iOS 5 this fall. This is great news for anyone that is currently texting while driving. Apple is planning to release iOS 5.x refreshes for the iPhone 4 via OTA (over-the-air) updates, it's been suggested, at least for those with the Verizon CDMA version of the smartphone. According to 9 to 5 Mac's sources, while iOS 5 itself will be distributed in the usual way, through an iTunes update that requires the iPhone be plugged in via USB, the OS refresh will also bring with it OTA support for future point-updates. Footage of what’s claimed to be iOS 5.0 running on either a white iPhone 5 or an official white iPhone 4 has emerged in Vietnam, ahead of what’s expected to be a June official unveil this year. Tinhte forums member cuhiep managed to grab some hands-on time with what’s described as “a test version of next-generation iPhone with the new iOS that Apple plans to release this year.”
