iPad & iPhone ditching home button; “Find My Friends” and new apps incoming?

Apple's iOS 4.3 beta and its multitouch gesture support are the first step in removing the home button from the iPhone and iPad, according to new sources. As several commenters suggested to us, and as BGR has apparently had confirmed by an Apple source, the gesture addition is designed to allow the company to do away with the physical button, instead returning to the homescreen or calling up the app switcher with multitouch swipes. Meanwhile, there's talk of new apps and location-based services coming to the platform.

Earlier this morning, there was a confirmation that the mobile hotspot feature, which the Verizon iPhone 4 has already installed, would be made available to all iPhone 4s in the wild, once iOS 4.3 landed in the future. Apple has made iOS 4.3 one step closer to reality, by releasing the first official build for developers, courtesy of their developer portal on Apple's website.

iOS 4.3 due Dec 13 with News Corp “Daily” recurring subscription APIs?

Apple's iOS 4.2 has only been officially available since Monday, but already talk has turned to its successor, iOS 4.3. According to MacStories' sources, Apple has been planning to launch iOS 4.3 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch on December 13, complete with a new set of APIs supporting recurring subscriptions for App Store apps. These APIs they, and Daring Fireball's Jon Gruber suggest, will be unveiled on December 9 in a joint-event with News Corp, potentially even seeing CEO Rupert Murdoch join Steve Jobs on stage to officially announce the "Daily" digital newspaper.
